Soon, perhaps even today, Jason Jennings will relinquish his title as the Rockies' best bargain. The Rockies are on the verge of agreeing to a multiyear contract with the right-hander, who is armed with the muscle of salary arbitration for the first time.
"We are getting close, but (agent) Casey (Close) has a few things to iron out," Jennings said Sunday night.
I hope he can get out of his little funk he seems to find himself in 3/4 of the season...

I worry about us spending this much on pitchers, but hopefully this one works out.

Well he is a home grown boy... We know what we are getting with him so this is a safer bet than the Rox have ever signed with a pitcher before I feel....

True. I still worry that he will just have a bad year and never come back to good again, but thats a risk we take :(.

That is a risk every team that signs a pitcher takes.....
But JJ is young and has never had any arm problems and he knows what it takes to pitch at Coors... He has had some ups and downs that is for sure just hope that there are less downs from now on...

I think this is a good signing. He's been a good arm coming up through the system...and has been pretty good at the big league level. Plus, he's got the kind of mechanincs you have to have to win at Coors, like you were saying Shad...

I always had pitchers fail on me in my sim league so I worry about it in real life too :). Probably isn't nearly as bad as I think :).

Well, if his pitching goes south, we can always stick him in the outfield - the kid can hit.
From the Rocky Mountain News:
Jason Jennings will receive $2.3 million this season and $4.4 million in 2006. The deal also includes a $200,000 signing bonus, half within 15 days of approval and the rest in April.
The Rockies have a $100,000 buyout on a $5.5 million option for 2007. The option rises to $5.8 million if Jennings pitches 360 innings in 2005 and 2006, including at least 170 innings in 2006.
If Jennings pitches 380 innings the next two seasons, including at least 180 in 2006, the option becomes $6.1 million. It rises to $6.4 million if Jennings pitches 400 innings the next two seasons, including at least 190 in 2006.
Also, Jennings can earn performance bonuses of $100,000 in 2006 and 2007 - $50,000 each for 190 and 200 innings pitched.

That's for sure. That game at Shea where he hit the HR. That was awesome.
