The Texas Rangers gave contact extensions to manager Buck Showalter and GM John Hart today.

Showalter's new deal runs though the 2009 season with a club option for 2010.Hart's deal will run throgh the 2006 season, when after that, the contract becomes renewable annually, until it is terminated either by Hart or the Rangers.

Showalter was named the AL Manager of the Year in 2004 after leading the Rangers to an 89-73 3rd place finish, just 3 games behind division champion Anaheim. The Rangers were in contention until the final week of the season.

He is also tied for 3rd on the Rangers all-time wins list with 160(tied with Pat Corrales),and trails only Bobby Valentine(581),and the late Johnny Oates(508).

John Hart is in 4th season as Rangers GM,after building Cleveland into a perennial contender in the mid to late 1990s.His Cleveland teams won 6 division titles and went to 2 World Series'(1995 and '97) under Hart.

This is good news I guess. I do like Buck as a Manager. And now he knows the ownership is really behind him. As for Hart, I am not so keen. I think letting Grady Fuson go during last season was a mistake. We will realy have to follow what Hart does with these drafts we are having now and what comes of them. He seems to have a knack for the guys on the team now and keeping them happy. I think they may let him ride this 2006 contract out, and then find someone new at that time.
