View Full Version : Cubs to Retire Sandberg's #23

The Cubs announced at their annual fan conention on Friday that they will retire the #23 worn by Ryne Sandberg this season.He will be only the 4th Cub to have his number retired,joining Ernie Banks(14),Billy Williams(26),and Ron Santo(10).
Sandberg was elected to the Hall of Fame on January 4th,and will be inducted on July 31st.
According to the cubs,the deatails on Sandberg's jersey retirement will be announced at a later date.

definitely in some hallowed ground to have his number retired by the cubbies! :)

I'm kinda torn on that one. Yes he had those great years, but a lot of that depended on the team around him as he was never reallllly dominating.
but 6 straight 20 win seasons? that's hard to pass up.

It didn't help that he piched at the same time as Bob Gibson when he was dominating in the late 60s.
