02.28 Danny Graves (P) Cin Reds manager Bob Boone won't declare that preparing Danny Graves as a starter is merely a spring training exercise to make Graves a better closer, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Graves said he believes it is an experiment, but Boone said he wants to keep his options open.

I think that Graves should stay a closer. They really don't have anyone else to close. If they would have signed Jeff Shaw, and I think they should have, then I would have been alright with them wanting to try Danny starting.

They do have the work horse Sullivan that for 3 years running has racked up 100+ innings per year while posting up a very good bunch of numbers with lots of holds. Seems like a pretty natural progression to me. My biggest worry is how effective Graves can be as a starter? Not so much whom his replacement will be.

That is my thought. When the Reds decided to start Williamson he was not nearly as effective as he was out of the bullpen. I think they should keep Graves in the bullpen especially since they didn't sign Jeff Shaw. If they would have signed him, they could then testing Graves wouldn't have been quite as big of a risk. In any case, I think Graves will be better in the bullpen. :bigsquare
