The Minnesota Vikings are willing to trade Randy Moss.

It's looking more and more like Moss has played his last season in Minnesota after Vikings owner Red McCombs gave permission this week for the personnel office and coach Mike Tice to trade the wide receiver, team sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

The Vikings want a combination of draft picks and players, preferably a defensive starter, the sources told Mortensen.

The Ravens, Jets and Raiders are expected to have serious interest. The Jets made an offer last year, sources said, but it fell far short of serious consideration.

Moss has four seasons remaining on an eight-year, $75 million contract, but economics likely would not preclude a trade.

The Vikings would recoup about $2 million in salary cap space for 2005 if they traded Moss. Because Minnesota has already paid the $18 million signing bonus that was part of Moss' landmark contract, any team acquiring him would be responsible only for the remaining base salaries on the deal.

Those salaries -- $7.25 million for 2005, $8.25 million for '06, $9.75 million for '07 and $11.25 million for '08 -- might be considered exorbitant by most NFL teams. But any team acquiring Moss could restructure the contract, applying much of the base salary due the wide receiver into a signing bonus.

For 2005 alone, a team could reduce Moss' salary cap charge by more than $5 million simply by lowering his scheduled $7.25 million base salary to the league minimum and giving him the difference as a guaranteed bonus.

Two general managers from teams other than the Vikings, in Jacksonville to attend Super Bowl XXXIX, said Sunday that they believe Moss will be traded in the offseason. They said they expect the Vikings to initiate discussions with potential suitors well in advance of March 2, when the league trade moratorium is lifted.

Moss didn't endear himself to his teammates in the final game of the season when he skulked off the field with 2 seconds left in a loss at Washington. The following week in Minnesota's wild-card playoff victory at Green Bay, Moss pretended to pull down his pants and moon the crowd after scoring on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Daunte Culpepper in the fourth quarter.

Moss was fined $10,000 by the league for the gesture but didn't show any remorse.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I'm sort of suprised by this move. Managament must want to free up money and work on the defense, or perhaps they're tired of his on and off the field antics. Probably both.

The Vikings dont need to free up money. With the cheapest owner in the NFL they are the best team under the cap. (scary huh if that owner would put some money in that team what they could do)

For the past 3 years he has been great off field and for the most part great on field. (from what we see and hear)

But I dont see Moss moved really. I dont see a team stepping up to give the players that will be needed along with draft picks.

But there might be something going on that we aint being told also...

As discussions with Arizona entrepreneur Reggie Fowler entered a critical timing stage, the Vikings issued another round of exasperated denials of another national report regarding the future of receiver Randy Moss.

Owner Red McCombs, vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski and Dante DiTrapano, Moss' agent, all said the critical portion of ESPN's report -- that McCombs gave Brzezinski permission to shop Moss last week -- never happened. McCombs, in fact, has been conducting daily discussions with Fowler's staff in an attempt to sell the franchise soon after Super Bowl XXXIX, which was Sunday.

In a brief interview from his home in San Antonio, McCombs said he has not authorized any trade discussions for Moss. And while the team likely will entertain offers once the trading period begins March 2, Brzezinski said there have been no discussions, either with McCombs or other NFL teams.

And for the final this aint going to happen and because why.....

The Vikings sought three first-round draft picks from teams that inquired about Moss last season, The team almost certainly will seek two first-round picks and a starting player in order for serious discussions to begin.

How can any team afford a wide reciever who costs about 1/7th of the teams roster?

yeah, good luck dealing him.

Although, I'm sure Baltimore would love to have him. :) He'd fit in just fine.

There was a team dumb enough once to deal away draft picks and half of their team for one player and the damm Vikings are still trying to get over it... So now they are trying to find a sucker like them to make a deal like that...

I don't see Randy going anywhere as long as is Billy Joe is owning the team. Now if the new owner is there, it may be different.

As a PACKERS fan, I hope he gets traded. The NFC North will dance in the streets when he gets traded. He is the only threat on the Vikings. "Culpepper is a threat." hahaha...Dante Culfumbles, aka Mr. Babyhands doesn't scare anybody as a QB. Gus ferotte subbed for him when he got hurt and had the same success. it's called.."Throw the ball to moss and you do well." Vikings, wont make the playoffs.

I would agree with you in some parts Tromadz but two things....

Culpepper had the second best season this year for a QB. So for him not to scare anyone I would have to have more info from you on that... He didnt fumble hardly at all and did it all mostly without Moss this year. The years he was fumbling alot was years the Vikings didnt have a O-line to speak of.

And when Moss was out this season for those games the offense didnt misss a beat. It was the same thing that has killed the Vikings for the past few years that stopped them from winning and that was the Defense....
