Projected Pick The CFN Pick Would Be ...
1. San Francisco Aaron Rodgers, QB California Braylon Edwards, WR Michigan
The Niners are going to spend the next several weeks desperately looking to trade down. Alex Smith will also get a long look, but neither Rodgers or Smith are number one-overall caliber picks. Drafting is about minimizing risk, and Edwards would be a sure-thing for a team that needs offensive playmakers.
2. Miami Cedric Benson, RB Texas Ronnie Brown, RB Auburn
Quarterback will be a top priority, but Rodgers and Smith aren't worth taking ahead of one of the superstar running backs. Carnell Williams impressed everyone in Senior Bowl practices up until he got dinged up in the game. Benson is the likely pick, but Brown has less wear and tear.
3. Cleveland Alex Smith, QB Utah Mike Williams, WR USC
Tackle is a screaming need for the Browns, but this is a horrible draft for offensive linemen. They'd love for Smith or Rodgers to drop to the three and could trade up to get the one they want. With several decent receivers, but no true number one, Williams would be the better fit over a shaky quarterback prospect.
4. Chicago Braylon Edwards, WR Michigan Cedric Benson, RB Texas
The Bears are still scarred by the David Terrell experience and could shy away from taking the equally brash Braylon Edwards. Despite all the dough paid for Thomas Jones, Chicago could still use a star running back to focus the offense around.
5. Tampa Bay Ronnie Brown, RB Auburn Carnell Williams, RB Auburn
Head coach Jon Gruden has publicly stated he plans to rebuild through the draft. Starting with one of the Auburn running backs would be a nice start, but getting Edwards to slide to the five to pair up with Michael Clayton would be even better.
6. Tennessee Erasmus James, DE Wisconsin David Pollack, DE Georgia
Tennessee needs offensive line and could use some help in the secondary, but there are way too many good pass rushers to pass up and the Titans will have their pick of the litter. LSU's Marcus Spears could move into this spot.
7. Oakland Carnell Williams, RB Auburn Aaron Rodgers, QB California
Look for Oakland to be a player in trade talks up until the final seconds. There's no secret that Norv and Al are looking for a running back, but a young quarterback is just as needed.
8. Arizona Heath Miller, TE Virginia Heath Miller, TE Virginia
The quarterback situation is shaky, but the receiving corps isn't with some of the league's brightest young stars. Imagine having Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Bryant Johnson and Heath Miller to throw to? They might even make Josh McCown look good. If one of the top runners falls here, he's gone.
9. Washington Marcus Spears, DE LSU Mark Clayton, WR Oklahoma
Joe Gibbs desperately needs a better go-to receiver and a quarterback to get him the ball, but a top pass rusher would be nice too and Spears was outstanding in Senior Bowl workouts. Gibbs might trade down to go for David Pollack or Bill Swancutt.
10. Detroit Adam Jones, CB West Virginia Derrick Johnson, LB Texas
This might be way too far for Jones to fall if he tears off a 4.3 in workouts. Marcus Spears and Erasmus James will also be in the mix.
11. Dallas Alex Barron, OT Florida State Alex Smith, QB Utah
The rapidly aging Dallas offensive line could use a shot of young talent. There are other major needs to be addressed, but Barron is too good to let slide.
12. San Diego (from NYG) Mike Williams, WR USC Roddy White, WR UAB
San Diego needs to go for the best receiving prospect available and could try to trade up to get Braylon Edwards. Williams would be a steal at the 12.
13. Houston Matt Roth, DE Iowa Matt Roth, DE Iowa
Houston wants more playmakers on the defensive line. After the way Bill Swancutt dominated in the Senior Bowl, his stock has gone through the roof and could move into this spot. As good as Swancutt was, Roth was better all week.
14. Carolina Derrick Johnson, LB Texas Alex Barron, OT Florida State
Wide receiver and best-offensive-lineman available are possibilities. If Johnson slips here it would be a no-brainer.
15. Kansas City Dan Cody, DE Oklahoma Dan Cody, DE Oklahoma
The Chiefs will have to pass up desperately needed young receiver prospects for defense, defense, defense, defense and more defense. A lineman with all-around skills like Cody would be a good start.
16. New Orleans Antrel Rolle, CB Miami Adam Jones, CB West Virginia
The Saints will try to move up to get Derrick Johnson and upgrade the linebacking corps. Corner is equally important and Rolle is too good to pass up at 16.
17. Cincinnati Travis Johnson, DT Florida State Antrel Rolle, CB Miami
Antrel Rolle would be a dream for the Bengals and Adam Jones would be worth moving up for. Even so, Johnson also fills a major need.
18. Minnesota Thomas Davis, S Georgia Travis Johnson, DT Florida State
Going for the best defensive player available, it might be tough to ignore one of the great pass rushers considering last year's first round pick was spent on Kenechi Udeze. Davis would be the type of intimidating presence the Viking back seven needs.
19. St. Louis Elton Brown, OG Virginia Bill Swancutt, DE Oregon State
David Pollack and Bill Swancutt will get a major look from the Rams. Guard is also a big-time need and Brown would immediately plug the hole.
20. Dallas (from Buffalo) David Pollack, DE Georgia Carlos Rogers, CB Auburn
Obviously this all depends on what the Cowboys do at 11. Cornerback and pass rusher are the most important needs and could double up on great ends. Maryland's Shawne Merriman and Bill Swancutt will both be options.
21. Jacksonville Shawne Merriman, DE Maryland Jammal Brown, OT Oklahoma
Jacksonville would do jumping jacks to get either Merriman or Brown. Brown would be the better pick to help protect the franchise, Byron Leftwich.
22. Baltimore Mark Clayton, WR Oklahoma Troy Williamson, WR South Carolina
Baltimore will get fantastic value as one of the speed receivers is sure to fall. Clayton was beyond tremendous in the Senior Bowl workouts, but UAB's Roddy White and Troy Williamson wouldn't be bad either.
23. Seattle Bill Swancutt, DE Oregon State Shawne Merriman, DE Maryland
The Seahawks need a reliable pass rusher with a high motor; Swancutt is a perfect fit.
24. Green Bay Channing Crowder, LB Florida Erasmus James, DE Wisconsin
The Packers need to go with the best defensive player available with Crowder's versatility being key. No, Erasmus James won't be around this long.
25. Denver Shaun Cody, DT USC Thomas Davis, S Georgia
Cody has the versatility to play end or tackle allowing the Broncos to juggle the line. Davis would be the Mile High second coming of Steve Atwater.
26. NY Jets Carlos Rogers, CB Auburn Marlin Jackson, CB Michigan
Dream pick coming to the rescue. The Jets would love for Antrel Rolle to drop to 26 but would be more than happy with Rogers.
27. Atlanta Jammal Brown, OT Oklahoma Elton Brown, OG Virginia
Atlanta wants the best offensive lineman available and would be ecstatic to see either Brown slide here.
28. San Diego Brodney Pool, S Oklahoma Ernest Shazor, S Michigan
If the Chargers don't go receiver at the 12 it'll look for a Roddy White or Troy Williamson here. The best safety available would help the league's 31st pass defense.
29. Indianapolis Darryl Blackstock, LB Virginia Shaun Cody, DT USC
Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis are brilliant ends to build a defense around. The more elite athletes to help out the front seven, the better.
30. Pittsburgh Brandon Browner, CB Oregon St Marcus Spears, DE LSU
Shawne Merriman would be the ideal pick, but corner would be a nice selection as well. A young star running back would allow the Bus to leave and help out the injured Duce Staley.
31. Philadelphia*
selection spot to be determined Anttaj Hawthorne, DT Wisconsin Demarcus Ware, DE Troy
More beef in the middle would be nice, but so would another pass rusher. Ware might go earlier to a team looking for an outside linebacker/pass rusher.
32. New England*
selection spot to be determined Corey Webster, CB LSU Brandon Browner, CB Oregon St
The Troy Brown experience was nice, but the Patriots need full-time defensive backs. There should be several good ones to choose from highlights by Webster, Browner and FSU's Bryant McFadden.

I don't like what they have for the Browns. I'd rather see them trade down to around 10 and target Derrick Johnson or Alex Barron and then look at a guy like Frye in the second round to be the future QB.

walleyekiller54

I disagree with who they have the packers taking. I agree that it will be the best Deff player on the board, but with 2 second round picks I think they will foucs on D-line in the 1st round. We have to get to the QB and with or new Deff cord, who likes the presure coming from the line it only makes sence.

A Packer fan Walleye???? I agree with you that you need to get a QB. The sooner Favre lets you know what he is going to do the better and more you will know going into the draft.

And I agree with you that the Pack need some D-linemen quick. I dont like what the Pack have done the past few years of letting some of there better players walk when they hit FA.

Big time packer fan from the north. I could not agree with you more on the FAs.
Hopefuly with Thompson at the helm we will have a better handle on things,

If the Dolphins sign/trade for James/Alexander/Henry/Droughns which will most likely happen, it'd make no sense to draft Benson, draft Smith or something

renuszm
02-14-2005, 09:11 PM
since there's rumors that the Chargers will franchise and trade Drew Brees for a pick, I imagine that they would use at least two of the first rounders in an attempt to trade up. I hope that they keep Brees, and keep the two picks that they currently have where they are.

My personal Mock:

1. San Francisco 49ers
Aaron Rodgers | QB |

San Francisco has to get more picks, but I dont see anyone giving up enough to move to this spot. Rodgers is the obvious pick

2. Miami Dolphins
Cedric Benson | RB |

I dont think they'll trade for James, so bring on Cedric Benson

3. Cleveland Browns
Derrick Johnson | LB |

The Browns need an "identity" and Derrick Johnson is the man that will give them one. He'll be the Brian Urlacher of the Browns, and I dont mean a big playmaker, I mean the only familiar face on a crappy franchise

4. Chicago Bears
Braylon Edwards | WR |

Personally, I think he'll be a bust. A lot of people want to argue with that. I dont see Mike Williams in a Bear uniform, and Edwards may be the better pick in their opinion anyway

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Carnell Williams | RB |

The love affair continues

6. Tennessee Titans
Antrel Rolle | CB |

Out with Samari, in with Antrel. The Titans need a corner bad, and Rolle is the best in the draft

7. Oakland Raiders
Ronnie Brown | RB |

I almost let Brown slip wayyy into the first round and gave Oakland Mike Williams, but wound up bringing him all the way back. I still see LaMont Jordan or another rookie RB coming here, but I wouldnt be able to fit in Ronnie Brown in until later on this round, and he shouldnt slip that far

8. Arizona Cardinals
Alex Smith | QB |

Another potential suitor for Brown, but I think they'll bring in someone like Michael Bennett or Travis Henry. Denny Green (And myself actually) likes Josh McNown, but I dont think they'll take a corner and thats the only other reasonable pick.

9. Washington Redskins
Mike Williams | WR |

Rod Gardner will most likely be released, and Williams fits in perfectly in a growing offense. They need some work on the D-Line, but offense is their #1 priority and Mike Williams could wind up being their #1 reciever in his rookie year

10. Detroit Lions
Erasmus James | DE |

Theyre short on DEs, and James is being said to be the most talented of them all

11. Dallas Cowboys
Shawne Merriman | DE/OLB |

Fits perfectly into the 3-4. Wiley is expected to be released, and the Cowboys need help at OLB

12. San Diego Chargers (from NYG)
Dan Cody | DE |

They need help on the defensive line, so Cody is the most likely pick

13. Houston Texans
Thomas Davis |SS/OLB|

OLB is their biggest need, and Davis' ability to play deep doesnt hurt, either

14. Carolina Panthers
Alex Barron | OT |

Desperately need help on the O-Line, Barron is probably the best one available

15. Kansas City Chiefs
Adam Jones| CB |

They need help all around the defense, but corner may be their biggest weakness. Jones being taken at #15 would be considered falling, but I think its reasonable

16. New Orleans Saints
Kevin Burnett | LB |

I had a rough time deciding on this one, but Burnett is probably the best LB available. The Saints need help all over their defense (Except on the D-Line, but thats arguable) so Burnett seems to be the most reasonable pick

17. Cincinatti Bengals
Travis Johnson | DT |

Need a run stuffing DT, so Travis Johnson is the man

18. Minnesota Vikings
David Pollack | DE|

Will add a DL to pair with Udezi

19. St. Louis Rams
Shaun Cody | DL |

They lost Grant Winstrom, and the whole line suffered as a result. Cody makes for a good compliment to Leonard Little

20. Dallas Cowboys (from Bills)
Carlos Rogers | CB |

Dallas will walk away from the first round filling their two biggest needs

21. Jacksonville Jaguars
Brandon Browner | CB |

I havent seen many mocks where they pick a corner, but they're very weak and old at corner with the exception of Mathis. Juran Bolden is also a candidate to be released

22. Baltimore Ravens
Mark Clayton | WR |

Both Taylor and Johnson are most likely gone, so that leaves two empty WR spots for Baltimore. One should be filled with the likes of Plaxico Burress or even Randy Moss, and the other with Mark Clayton

23. Seattle Seahawks
Matt Roth | DE |

Chike Okeafor may be gone, and Wistrom has been hurting. Seattle will have a lot of holes to fill, but DE will be the first one as far as the draft goes

24. Green Bay Packers
Channing Crowder | LB |

Move the undersized Nick Barnett outside and you've got two pretty nasty young LBs

25. Denver Broncos
Marcus Spears | DE |

Trevor Pryce may be cut, and Hayward is a free agent..Denver doesnt have a ton of holes to fill, so Spears still being available makes him an obvious pick

26. New York Jets
Heath Miller | TE | Virginia

Anthony Becht is gone, and even if he wasnt he cant catch a football. Miller is a perfect fit for the Jets and although they can use a corner, tight end is a priority where there isnt as much talent out there

27. Atlanta Falcons
Antajj Hawthorne | DT |

The Falcons have a hole to fill in the middle, and although they have other needs like safety and offensive line, Hawthorne is a good fit and will fit in well as a replacement for Ed Jasper.

28. San Diego Chargers
Troy Williamson | WR |

The Chargers need a WR with Keenan McCardell most likely at the end of his career. They used a platoon of different young recievers throughout the duration of last year, but it seems like they will organize themselves by wrapping all those receivers into one guy

29. Indianapolis Colts
Justin Miller | CB |

The Colt defense stepped up at the end of last year, but corner is still a big need. Miller is a good fit

30. Pittsburgh Steelers
Corey Webster | CB |

Although the defense played outstanding all year, the corners were always weak and the only team to expose that seemed to be the Patriots in the AFCCG. Webster fits in and is talented enough to become the team's #2 or even #1 corner.

31. Philadelphia Eagles
Jammal Brown | OT |

Guard Jermaine Mayberry may be on his way out, and Jon Runyan is a candidate to be cut. That leaves two holes in the Eagle offensive line, one that will be filled by last year's #1 pick Shawn Andrews who is coming off injury, the other being filled by Jammal Brown. The two will make a strong right side to the Eagle offensive line

32. New England Patriots
Marlin Jackson | CB |

Both Tyrone Poole and Ty Law may be cap casualties, leaving the Pats with a big hole at CB. Obviously the reserves stepped up when they had to last year, but it is doubtful that they are long term solutions and Marlin Jackson is a good fit to be the #2 corner on the team.

This is really, really, tougher than it looks..I'm not as satisfied with this as I could be, but not bad for the first time I guess..

But yea, feedback..

12. San Diego Chargers (from NYG)

Dolphins drafting Brown or Benson?

Everyone loves Ronnie, lately.

I still wish that they'd trade for Shaun Alexander, who is probably getting traded to either Miami, Tampa, or Arizona. But, TB has 0 Cap room for Alexander's salary.

Heres my second mock..Much more satisfied with this one..I had to update anyway since my first one was at least a month ago

1. San Francisco 49ers
Alex Smith | QB |

Mike Nolan is leaning towards drafting Braylon Edwards with the first pick because he believes he's the best player available, but I dont think he'll be able to pass on taking a QB and will take Smith over Rodgers

2. Miami Dolphins
Ronnie Brown | RB |

It still doesnt look as if Miami wants to go after James or Alexander, so bring on Brown, who is being called the best RB in the draft.

3. Cleveland Browns
Aaron Rogers | QB |

He can't fall any further than this, and because Kelly Holcomb was let go, a QB needs to be added in Cleveland. This team needs a fresh start, and a fresh rookie QB third overall is the way to go.

4. Chicago Bears
Cedric Benson | RB |

Until the Bears prove that they're serious in getting Edge James or Alexander, I have them taking a runningback with their first round pick. Thomas Jones is nothing more than backup material, and because of the Muhammad signing, WR can wait.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Braylon Edwards | WR |

Gruden and the rest of the coaching staff love Carnell Williams, but because of all of the RBs in the draft and free agency, and WR possibly being a bigger need, Edwards will be taken here at #5 and "drop"..I still think he'll be a bust.

6. Tennessee Titans
Adam Jones | CB |

The Titans need a corner bad, and Jones may be the best in the draft. Some are saying they'll reunite Mike Williams with Norm Chow, but the need at WR is not as great as it is at corner

7. Minnesota Vikings (From OAK)
Mike Williams | WR |

Say hello to the new Randy Moss..Sorta. He's a perfect fit lining up across from Nate Burleson and a good replacement for Moss.

8. Arizona Cardinals
Derrick Johnson | LB |

They no longer need a QB, and because of on-going discussions involving both Travis Henry and Michael Bennett, I think Arizona will go with who I think is the best defender in the draft in Johnson.

9. Washington Redskins
Antrell Rolle | CB |

Reunited with former 'Cane and last year's first round pick Sean Taylor, Rolle will fill in for the departed Fred Smoot.

10. Detroit Lions
Erasmus James | DE |

The Lions need some help at DE, and James may be the best available

11. Dallas Cowboys
Shawne Merriman | DE/OLB |

Wiley has been released, and unless the Nguyen for Darren Howard trade goes throw with New Orleans, they will stay in a 3-4 defense, one which Merriman fits into perfectly.

12. San Diego Chargers (from NYG)
Troy Williamson | WR |

A good fit lining up across from Keenan McCardell, Williamson, who may be the fastest in the draft, is added to help an already explosive Charger offense.

13. Houston Texans
Alex Barron | OT |

The Texans still need help on the offensive line, so Barron will play a big role in keep David Carr on his feet, a place he wasn't able to stay much this past season

14. Carolina Panthers
Carnell Williams | RB |

The Panthers need some help on the O-Line, but they will pass and take Williams who has fallen to #14. This team proved they could do it without Davis and Foster last year, and because Davis isnt getting any younger and Foster may not be reliable to start, taking Williams (who is better than both) is a great pick here for a team who is now a Superbowl contender.

15. Kansas City Chiefs
Brandon Browner | CB |

They need help all around the defense, but corner may be their biggest weakness. Rolle was already grabbed by Baltimore, and I dont see Ty Law coming in, so the Chiefs will have to wait until draft day and take Browner.

16. New Orleans Saints
Thomas Davis | SS/OLB |

The Saints have done a good job improving their defense through free agency, but OLB is still a position of need, and Davis is a good fit. His ability to play deep doesn't hurt, either.

17. Cincinatti Bengals
Travis Johnson | DT |

Need a run stuffing DT, so Travis Johnson is the man

18. Minnesota Vikings
David Pollack | DE |

Will add a DE to pair with Udezi..Mixon is supposed to be released, leaving a hole here at DE

19. St. Louis Rams
Jammal Brown | OT |

It doesn't take a genious to realize Kyle Turley is out of St. Louis. The Rams could use some help on the defensive line, but could wait until the second round and take Brown to help protect Brunell and now full time starter Stephen Jackson

20. Dallas Cowboys (from Bills)
Mark Clayton | WR |

Morgan Glenn and Keyshawn just don't get it done anymore. The 'Boys need to get some offensive firepower to go along with additions like Drew Bledsoe and Marco Rivera

21. Jacksonville Jaguars
Carlos Rogers | CB |

They filled their need at DE through free agency with Hayward, and because they're very weak and old at corner with the exception of Mathis, Rogers is reasonable at pick #21.

22. Baltimore Ravens
Roddy White | WR |

They brought in Mason, but now have the likes of Darling or Hymes lining up across from him. White may be the final piece of the puzzle for what is now one of the top teams around.

23. Seattle Seahawks
Marcus Spears | DE |

Spears will fill in for the departed Chieke Okafor, who signed with Arizona.

24. Green Bay Packers
Channing Crowder | LB |

The Packers have a ton of holes to fill, but consider Crowder the first step on a defense that just keeps getting worse.

25. Denver Broncos
Matt Roth | DE |

Trevor Pryce may be cut, and Hayward was lost to Jacksonville..Denver doesnt have a ton of holes to fill, so DE is an easy pick and Roth will be that DE

26. New York Jets
Heath Miller | TE | Virginia

The Jets can use a corner, but tight end is not only another top priority, but is also a position where there isnt as much talent out there

27. Atlanta Falcons
Brodney Pool | S |

The Falcons need someone to replace Cory Hall at safety, and Pool is a great fit in Jim Mora's defense

28. San Diego Chargers
Dan Cody | DE |

The Chargers need some firepower in the front 7, and because Cody can not only play DE but also OLB, he's a perfect fit in San Diego's 3-4.

Shaun Cody | DE |

The Eagles are going to need to draft an O-Lineman, but with an early pick in the second round from Miami, they can wait for the likes of Elton Brown. Cody fits into a D-Line rotation that lost Derrick Burgess. His ability to move inside also helps a run defense that was weak only due to it's inconsistant play from defensive tackles.

32. New England Patriots
Darryl Blackstock | LB |

The trade with Arizona help solidify this team's CB corps, making Blackstock a great addition to an aging LB rotation.

I'd like some feedback..I might do a round 2, but with free agency still going I think multiple first round edits may be enough for me.

Durango53
03-14-2005, 05:34 PM
I think if Derrick Johnson is there for the Vikings in the 7th they grab him.

Reason without Moss the Vikings still put up around 27 to 30 points a game. Culpepper still threw for 4000+ yards and only 700 of them went to Moss. Point this is still a good offense that can get the job done. They are going to be a more run offense that they was 2 years ago when they won those 7 straight.

They are building up a damm good defense in Minnesota right now and still the weakest part of that whole team last year was the play of there LB. All they have done there was add a guy from the Raiders that hasnt been the best also. If D. Johnson is still there he will be there pick.

GaMeTiMe
03-14-2005, 06:45 PM
The Vikes are moving Napoleon Harris from MLB to OLB, which gives 3rd year MLB E.J. Henderson the starting MLB spot. Unless they decide to turn back, the starting LBs should be Thomas, Henderson, Harris, all of which are young and still growing into the NFL. Adding another LB and forcing one of these guys, who all have potential, to the bench wouldn't make any sense.

Durango53
03-14-2005, 06:55 PM
Brian Bosworth had potential.

But beside that the Vikings take the best player in the draft. That has been what they do for so many years now and one other reason is that the Vikings are one of the best at holding there cards on who they draft. They have sent up so many smoke screens in the past and picked a guy that no one thought they would.

Even if the LB's for the Vikings have Potential how long do you wait on it? I am not sold on Harris and think Derrick Johnson is still the pick. Harris who was hurt all of last year and Henderson who was hurt half of last year they need some back up and even someone to come in and take over. Thomas and Henderson have speed but they made so many bad plays last year that you cant over look that and say they have potential.

But I do see them going after Willaims also but I just dont see it because Tice has talked about him and asked him about replacing Randy Moss and that falls in line with Tice having players come in and interview them work them out just to let people think they are going to draft them and then not even look there way when draft day comes.

I'm not sure why everyone has the Lions taking an end in the first round. They've got James Hall, who had a pro bowl type year last year on one side, and Kalimba Edwards and Cory Redding on the other. I can see taking one in the 2nd or 3rd round, but not the first.

Durango53

I love Clark Judge picks for the Vikings!!!!!

7 MIN Derrick Johnson, LB
18 MIN Troy Williamson, WR

If Johnson is there the Vikings have to take him. They need a playmaker there and he is that kind of players.

How does it not make sense. They will obviously stay and see what he can do in the next year or 2. And I also did not say he wasn't for real I just said that he has to prove himself for more than 1 year.

My Updated Mock:

1. San Francisco 49ers
Alex Smith | QB |

Mike Nolan is leaning towards drafting Braylon Edwards with the first pick because he believes he's the best player available, but I dont think he'll be able to pass on taking a QB and will take Smith over Rodgers. With rumors of David Boston circulating around San Francisco, the "hole" at wide receiver can be filled through free agency.

2. Miami Dolphins
Cedrick Benson | RB |

There are talks of Ronnie Brown here, but Benson may be the "safer" pick.

3. Cleveland Browns
Aaron Rodgers | QB |

He can't fall any further than this, and because Kelly Holcomb was let go, a QB needs to be added in Cleveland. This team needs a fresh start, and a fresh rookie QB third overall is the way to go. Almost anyone else could make sense here, but consider Rodgers the new leader of a new Browns team.

4. Chicago Bears
Derrick Johnson | LB |

The Mushin Muhammad signing puts Braylon Edwards on hold. Lovie Smith adding two key receivers without sandwiching a big defensive signing in the middle wouldn't make sense for the former D-Coordinator. Derrick Johnson helps turns Chicago into one of the strongest defenses in the league with LB corps of Johnson, Urlacher, and Briggs.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Braylon Edwards | WR |

Gruden and the rest of the coaching staff love Carnell Williams, but because of all of the RBs in the draft and free agency, and WR possibly being a bigger need, Edwards will be taken here at #5 and "drop". Tampa Bay has been involved in talks with almost all free agent receivers, but havent yet made their move, making this pick even more logical.

6. Tennessee Titans
Mike Williams | WR |

Reuniting Mike Williams with Norm Chow, the Titans will fill what is one of their biggest holes. Although they lost both starting corners, they only have 3 receivers on the depth chart; Drew Bennett, Tyrone Calico, abd Kevin Wolcott. And no, I don't know who Kevin Wolcott is either.

7. Minnesota Vikings (From OAK)
Ronnie Brown | RB |

There was a rumor before the Randy Moss trade that Minnesota would move up in the draft to take a top RB, and now that they've actually moved up it looks like more of a reality. It wouldnt make a ton of sense, but with Minnesota being Minnesota, and Michael Bennett possibly on his way out, Ronnie Brown isn't horrible at #7. He shared time in college and was great, so dont fix what isn't broken, right? Expect he and Onterrio Smith to make a great duo in the Minnesota backfield.

8. Arizona Cardinals
Adam Jones | CB |

They no longer need a QB, and because of on-going discussions involving both Travis Henry and Michael Bennett, I think Arizona will complete their defensive backfield with Adam Jones.

9. Washington Redskins
Antrell Rolle | CB |

Reunited with former 'Cane and last year's first round pick Sean Taylor, Rolle will fill in for the departed Fred Smoot.

10. Detroit Lions
Erasmus James | DE |

The Lions need some help at DE, and James may be the best available.

11. Dallas Cowboys
Shawne Merriman | DE/OLB |

The Cowboys need help on the line with Marcellus Wiley's release, making Merriman a great pick.

12. San Diego Chargers (from NYG)
Troy Williamson | WR |

A good fit lining up across from Keenan McCardell, Williamson, who may be the fastest in the draft, is added to help an already explosive Charger offense.

13. Houston Texans
Alex Barron | OT |

The Texans still need help on the offensive line, so Barron will play a big role in keep David Carr on his feet, a place he wasn't able to stay much this past season. The Texans already showed their interest in Orlando Pace, making Barron even more obvious at #13.

Carlos Rogers | CB |

They need help all around the defense, but corner may be their biggest weakness. Samari Rolle was already grabbed by Baltimore, and I dont see Ty Law coming in, so the Chiefs will have to wait until draft day and take Rogers.

16. New Orleans Saints
Thomas Davis | SS/OLB |

The Saints have done a good job improving their defense through free agency, but OLB is still a position of need, and Davis is a good fit. His ability to play deep doesn't hurt, either.

17. Cincinatti Bengals
Travis Johnson | DT |

Need a run stuffing DT, so Travis Johnson is the man.

18. Minnesota Vikings
Mark Clayton | WR |

Minnesota has almost no holes left, and because their four starters on the defensive end have already been named and seem to be final, Clayton is a great upgrade to a receiver corp that seems a bit messy.

19. St. Louis Rams
Jammal Brown | OT |

It doesn't take a genious to realize Kyle Turley is out of St. Louis. The Rams could use some help on the defensive line, but could wait until the second round and take Brown to help protect Bulger and now full time starter Stephen Jackson.

20. Dallas Cowboys (from Bills)
Roddy White | WR |

Morgan Glenn and Keyshawn just don't get it done anymore. The 'Boys need to get some offensive firepower to go along with additions like Drew Bledsoe and Marco Rivera.

21. Jacksonville Jaguars
Marlin Jackson | CB/S |

They filled their need at DE through free agency with Hayward, and because of Washington and Bolden's releases, Jackson is reasonable at pick #21.

22. Baltimore Ravens
Marcus Spears | DE |

With both Roddy White and Mark Clayton off the board, the Ravens will avoid a reach here and take Marcus Spears at 22. Billick has already said he would go into the season with Darling and Hymes as his 2 and 3 receivers, and even though that will still probably change, there is no reason to reach for a receiver in the first round. Praised as one of the top pass rushers available, the Ravens can use Spears at defensive end, or turn him into a pass rushing OLB to replace Peter Boulware (ala Terrell Suggs)

23. Seattle Seahawks
Channing Crowder | LB |

An already weak group of LBs in Seattle that recently lost Anthony Simmons should be looking to take a LB early in the draft. If they sign Ed Hartwell expect this pick to change, but until they do, Crowder is the pick.

24. Green Bay Packers
Khalif Barnes | OT |

The Packers have a ton of holes to fill, but lost the most star power on the offensive line. They may have been looking at Channing Crowder, but after he is taken at #23, Barnes is the next best pick.

25. Denver Broncos
Dan Cody | DE |

Trevor Pryce may be cut, and Hayward was lost to Jacksonville..Denver doesnt have a ton of holes to fill, so DE is an easy pick and Cody will be that pick. His ability to play in the middle makes him even more valuable to a weak defensive line.

26. New York Jets
Heath Miller | TE |

The Jets can use a corner, but tight end is not only another top priority, they also don't have anyone to start there. Corner can always come later and there are many more around.

29. Indianapolis Colts
Fabian Washington | CB |

The Colt defense stepped up at the end of last year, but corner is still a big need. Washington is a good fit in a defense that needs to be completely rebuilt.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers
Justin Miller | CB |

The Steelers need corner help, and Miller makes for a good pick.

31. Philadelphia Eagles
Justin Tuck | DE |

The Eagles need a replacement for the departed Derek Burgess, and with Justin Tuck looking like Jerome McDougal so far at the workouts, the Eagle front office should be quick to jump on this pick.

32. New England Patriots
Darryl Blackstock | LB |

The trade with Arizona help solidify this team's CB corps, making Blackstock a great addition to an aging LB rotation.

Are you guys serious? WR, OL for the Steelers?!?! :lmao:

Just because they lost Burress doesn't mean they have to go out and draft a receiver. They signed Cedrick Wilson for a reason.

They've had the best O-Line in the league for years. No changes are needed.

I can understand LB and DL just a tiny bit, but the need isnt big enough to have to fill in the first round.

They've needed corner help forever. They're actively pursuing Ty Law for a reason..

Anyway, here's my new mock:

Cedric Benson | RB |

There are talks of Ronnie Brown here, but Benson may be the "safer" pick.

3. Cleveland Browns
Braylon Edwards | WR |

With Trent Dilfer as a "security blanket", the Cleveland Browns can wait a round to fill their need at QB, most likely Jason Campbell who they've been looking at closely. Braylon Edwards is Andre Johnson or Dennis Northcutt's ticket out of Cleveland.

4. Chicago Bears
Derrick Johnson | LB |

The Mushin Muhammad signing should put any offensive blockbusters on hold. Lovie Smith adding two key offensive players without sandwiching a big defensive signing in the middle wouldn't make sense for the former D-Coordinator. Derrick Johnson helps turns Chicago into one of the strongest defenses in the league with LB corps of Johnson, Urlacher, and Briggs.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Ronnie Brown | RB |

Gruden and the rest of the coaching staff love Carnell Williams, but because Brown has fallen to #5, they shouldn't hesitate to pick him up.

Erasmus James | DE |

The Vikings could use a receiver, but with Braylon Edwards and Mike Williams off the board, they could wait until their second first round pick. Erasmus James fills the Viking's need across from Udezi on the defensive line.

Alex Barron | OT |

The Lions need some help at DE, but can afford to wait. The loss of McDougal on the offensive line leaves a hole, and Alex Barron is a good fit on a revamped Lion offense.

11. Dallas Cowboys
Shawne Merriman | DE/OLB |

The Cowboys need help on the line with Marcellus Wiley's release, making Merriman a great pick.

12. San Diego Chargers (from NYG)
Marcus Spears | DE |

The Bolts shouldn't hesitate here due to problems in the front 7 Spears has the ability to play at DE or DT, filling two major needs for the Chargers.

13. Houston Texans
Thomas Davis | SS/OLB |

With Alex Barron off the board, the Texans will address their second biggest need. Davis can play deep as a safety, or in the front seven as an OLB, filling two holes on the Texan defense.

Aaron Rodgers | QB |

Despite impressive workouts, Rodgers has fallen all the way to #16, and the Saints will surprise all by taking him. Aaron Brooks needs to be pushed, and if he continues to perform below his ability like he has the past few seasons, there may be dueling Aarons in New Orleans.

17. Cincinatti Bengals
Travis Johnson | DT |

Need a run stuffing DT, so Travis Johnson is the man.

18. Minnesota Vikings
Troy Williamson | WR |

Minnesota has almost no holes left, so Williamson is a great upgrade to a receiver corp that seems a bit messy.

19. St.

Mark Clayton | WR |

Morgan, Glenn, and Keyshawn just don't get it done anymore. The 'Boys need to get some offensive firepower to go along with additions like Drew Bledsoe and Marco Rivera. Expect Clayton to mean a pink slip for one of the above receivers, most likely Morgan or Glenn.

21. Jacksonville Jaguars
Marlin Jackson | CB/S |

They filled their need at DE through free agency with Hayward, and because of Washington and Bolden's releases, Jackson is reasonable at pick #21. Donovin Darius wants out, and although he may play another season in Jacksonville, Marlin Jackson can be groomed as his replacement at safety while he plays his rookie season at corner.

22. Baltimore Ravens
David Pollack | DE |

With both Roddy White still on the board, the Ravens will surprisingly pass on him and take David Pollack at 22. Billick has already said he would go into the season with Darling and Hymes as his 2 and 3 receivers, and even though that will still probably change, there is no reason to pass on David Pollack and possibly draft a receiver later.

23. Seattle Seahawks
Channing Crowder | LB |

An already weak group of LBs in Seattle that recently lost Anthony Simmons should be looking to take a LB early in the draft. The 'Hawks recently lost out on Ed Hartwell, making Crowder reasonable.

24. Green Bay Packers
Khalif Barnes | OL |

The Packers have a ton of holes to fill, but lost the most star power on the offensive line. Without question, they will want to surround Brett Favre the best they could for his final season. Keeping him well protected should be a big part of that plan.

25. Denver Broncos
Shawn Cody | DE |

Trevor Pryce may be cut, Reggie Hayward was lost to Jacksonville, and it looks like Courtney Brown will sign with Washington. Denver doesnt have any big holes to fill other than on the defensive line, so Shawn Cody makes for a good pick due to his ability to play inside and out.

26. New York Jets
Heath Miller | TE |

The Jets can use a corner, but tight end is not only another top priority, they also don't have anyone to start there. Corner can always come later and there are many more around.

27. Atlanta Falcons
Antajj Hawthorne | DT |

It seems as if Ronnie Heard will be an immediate starter at safety, filling the Falcons' need at that position. They are very strong everywhere except for the offensive line, but because of O-Line guru Alex Gibbs, they will pass on their need with the 27th pick and take Antajj Hawthorne to fill the hole at defensive tackle.

28. San Diego Chargers
Dan Cody | DE |

The Chargers drafted Marcus Spears with their first first rounder, and the additon of Dan Cody makes for a very productive first round. Cody can not only play DE but also OLB, and is a perfect fit in San Diego. Consider their front seven problems solved.

29. Indianapolis Colts
Justin Miller | CB |

The Colt defense stepped up at the end of last year, but corner is still a big need. Miller is a good fit in a defensive backfield that needs to be rebuilt.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers
Fabian Washington | CB |

The Steelers need corner help, so Washington makes for a good pick.

31. Philadelphia Eagles
Elton Brown | OL |

The Eagles need a bit of help in the front 7, but have Miami's second round pick and believe that the chances of a front 7 player falling there are much greater than a top O-Lineman like Brown getting to them. They can probably successfully risk him falling, but will not pass up on their need on the offensive line as they already have enough defensive potential to get by.

32. New England Patriots
Darryl Blackstock | LB |

The trade with Arizona helps solidify this team's CB corps, making Blackstock a great addition to an aging LB rotation.

Possible Trades:

I don't predict trades in my mocks because any team can trade to any spot, so the chances of getting them right are worse than just leaving things the way they are. But here are a few trades that if I had to predict, I would.

-New England trades up to pick Marcus Spears
-Philadelphia trades up to take a falling Jammal Brown
-A lot of movement throughout the top 10, most likely within the top 5 and with the greatest changes coming in the top 3.

Cedric wilson is, at best, a possession receiver. They did not bring him in to be a #2 receiver. This season, that job goes to ARE. After the top 3, though, who are we going to hang our hat on?? Zamir Cobb MIGHT be able to step up, but he who knows??

As for the OL, I actually look the Steelers to draft here. Jeff Hartings knees are shot. He is a timb bomb waiting to erupt. Lets say that something does happen to him where he is injured or ineffective. What happens then is that Chucki Okobi steps in to his place. Okobi happens to be our top backup at the guard position, so you eliminate depth. Big time. As of now, what happens if Max Starks is incapable of handling the RT spot?? Or Simmons is unable to rebound from injury?? Faneca is not getting any younger, even though he still performs at a pro bowl level. The honest fact is, that while our OLine played fantastic this past season, all of the depth that we would have had going in this year is gone. Gone Are Vincent and Ross. Where is the depth?? THere is none, which is why I think we draft OLine in round 1.

The Steelers are not seriously considering Ty Law. They brought him in for a visit, but have pretty much decided that due to his injury and high price tag, they will not be offering him a contract. Dont get too hyped up in what you read in the papers or see on the news. I will eat my right foot if Ty Law comes home to play.

We have a good solid group of young corners. Last season, I believe they finsihed in the top 10 in pass defense. Ricardo Colclough is the real deal. Ike Taylor remains to be seen, but we have a good young defensive backfield in place. I wpould look for them to draft a corner probably no earlier than round 3.

I can't argue those points, but those are both second or third round situations at best. You're not going to draft a receiver with the 30th pick to sit #4 on the depth chart. Same goes for an O-Lineman.

imgreat95
03-23-2005, 01:33 PM
I dont think that you would be drafting a receiver to sit #4. I think you draft one to groom as a starter for next season or the following. Backup on the OLine this season and start next or the season after. Its not all that unusual. If you draft a CB at #30, he also site on the depth chart all season long. That is the position that you are in when you finish 15-1. You dont usually have glaring needs.

Durango53

I have to agree with you Shawn. I think most coachs would love to draft a guy and have him sit a year and learn. Most people have a longer time in the NFL. You learn the NFL game and what goes on instead of getting your fat thrown in the fire...

Randel El is talented and cheap, he's not moving anytime soon. Extending Hines Ward is Pittsburgh's #1 priority. Their two starting WRs are locked up.

They wouldnt have gone out and signed Wilson to a 4 year deal if they wanted to draft a receiver to groom as a starter..

Kevinb Colbert himself as said that they may stlill draft a WR. I believe Randle El will be a FA next season. There is no guarantee that he will be around. I do not think there is much chance they will take a WR. I think OLine, but i am just saying that it is not as preposterous as you think.

I disagree with who they have the packers taking. I agree that it will be the best Deff player on the board, but with 2 second round picks I think they will foucs on D-line in the 1st round. We have to get to the QB and with or new Deff cord, who likes the presure coming from the line it only makes sence.

Thompson's (the new gm) view is that the guard is the least important position on the o-line so I would be suprised if the Pack went after one in the first round. They lost two very good guards but have a good one in Gray Ruegamer to step in and start. I think they will address the line later in the draft as there is always good bargains later on.

I dont think you can go wrong getting O-line guys. I am a huge fan of that. The game is won with the line. Give your QB time to get the job done and your RB time to get the ball and hit the hole. Bad line the QB has no time and your RB has no hole.

Just look at the Cowboys of the 90's. They won because of a great O-Line.
