Offensive player of the year
QB Alex Smith, Jr. Utah
Defensive player of the year
LB Kirk Morrison, Sr. San Diego State
Coach of the year - Urban Meyer, Utah
Best Mountain West game - Nov. 6, Wyoming 53 ... UNLV 45 3OT
Worst Mountain West game - Nov. 20, San Diego State 21 ... UNLV 3
Freshman of the year - Shaun Carney, QB Air Force
Best Performance - Sept. 2, Utah 41 - Texas A&M 21... Utah QB Alex Smith completed 21 of 29 passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns and ran 13 times for 76 yards and two touchdowns.
Biggest Surprise: Wyoming. Expected to be the worst team in the Mountain West yet again, the Cowboys got to a bowl game and showed that it's a program on the rise with an improved defense and better balance to the offense.
Biggest Disappointment: The league outside of Utah and Wyoming. Teams like UNLV, San Diego State, BYU and Colorado State were supposed to be contenders for the crown and all struggled and, at times, flat-out stunk. The league didn't take the overall step many thought it would.

As a Mountain West fan I wanted to post the highlights and low points of the conference.

Was there any question that Alex Smith was going to be offensive player of the year!?

I dont think there was. I wish that line that he had in front of him would have got more noticed because that is what made this team what it was. Those big uglys was outstanding this year!!!
