Was wondering what you guys thought. Watching NESN replay their World Series Winter, I have to tell you, beating the Yanks was more special to me than the WS.
Don't get me wrong, we needed to win the WS, but I HAD to watch game 7 of the ALCS last week. I don't feel that same "MUST SEE" about the WS games.
Then again, I've watched Faith Rewarded 47 times so.......
Which did you like more? The ALCS, or the WS?

I completely agree. Even while the playoffs were going on, the WS just did not have the same feel as the ALCS. Beating the Yanks was the major hurdle, so getting past St Louis just seemed like a formality. The ALCS had more of a sense of urgency, more tension, and BY FAR more relief when we finally won. Even watching the replays, I get worked up wtaching the ALCS and I get pumped up when watching the Sox win. With the WS replays, it's more of a "Hey, cool" kind of feel.
I definitely loved the ALCS better. There was more excitement and more of an urge to get over that hump. Kinda like how the Eagles had to get over the hump to get into the SB. Also, the ALCS game went 7 games. Almost an average of 12 innings per game. So that was more intense. Either way, I love being champions.

It's unreal when you realize game 4 went 12, and game 5 went 14 innings. I remember game 4 like no other game. The usual crew were watching. During commercial before the bottom of the 9th, I got up to get a beer, we all kinda toasted and said, well, this looks like the end guys. Football was dominating the conversation, then Millar walked..........and Roberts came in....and we held our breath....and he stole SECOND....and Mueller knocked him in....and we were like holy crap.......this ain't over yet.... :)

The ALCS was so much memorable to me as well...
The fact that there was so much drama as well as an amazing comeback against their most bitter rival made it all the more memorable...

Definitely the ALCS. In Game 4, the Sox had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel and the next thing you know, there's a Game 5, then a Game 6 and then a Game 7 for all the marbles. To stage that kind of a comeback is incredible alone. To do it against a hated rival AND in THEIR house where there were so many painful memories just turned it into one of those "where were you when" moments. Unf'nbelievable and sweet beyond words.
By the time the WS came around, it was anti-climatic. I agree with Jac, they HAD to win it or we'd all still be talkin about the wretched curse, but by then it just seemed like a foregone conclusion.
On edit: I just reread my post...damn could I fit one more cliche in there? :D

I agree. The WS was a forgone conclusion. I don't know one Sox fan who thought we'd lose the WS. I was mildly surprised at the sweep, but I didn't expect it to go more than 5 games.

I agree with all of you. Perhaps it's because the Sox defeated the Evil Empire AT THE BEDPAN, but the ALCS was just so much more satisfying than the "plain vanilla" sweep of the Cardinals.
The ALCS was a grueling, agonizing, stomach-churning, emotionally draining effort, but the guys didn't seem to have broken a sweat during the WS.
I need to get the 2005 season on video.

The WS gives me that warm fuzzy feeling while the ALCS gives me that "I'm gonna get up and kick some ass" feeling. I like 'em both.

While winning the WS was long, long overdue, I must say I really enjoyed the ALCS the most. Why? Simply because it was the Yankees, and celebrating on their field was priceless, IMO. Once we took that series, I didn't see the Cardinals beating us at all.

I think most baseball fans that hate the Yankees and most Red Sox fans would probably pick winning Game 7 of the ALCS than the Sox winning the World Series. The World Series wasn't even that great and there was not that much buzz on the W.S.
