Apparently, it might be considered "bad taste" to rub it in the Yankee faces.

The Red Sox are getting KILLED on WEEI for this. KILLED. You go to Opening Day, you EXPECT to see this. The Sox are dead wrong on this. Do you think the Yankees would change their ceremony?
This is ludicrous.

I almost feel bad for all those people paying $1000 for tickets to opening day. :)
Opening Day will certainly feel like something is missing if they don't hand out the rings and raise the WS flag. God dammit, THAT IS WHAT OPENING DAYS ARE FOR IN THIS AND EVERY OTHER SPORT.
SCREW THAT MAN!!! I aint going to opening day then. :D

Why should the ring ceremony be delayed? What difference does it make if they do it for another team? I think that's absurd and stupid. Most teams in sports have ring ceremony on home openers.

They SHOULD be getting killed. WTF?!? Screw decorum and respect. Like the Yankees would do that? Please!
I say...stick the knife in and twist! Rub salt in the wounds! Give them their rings in the Yankees faces! Give them this: :doublefin
AND Sox fans deserve the pleasure of watching this.

What jackass made this decision? The first ring ceremony in 86 years and they're delaying it? I'm with Bob on this one, I'm not going to opening day now.

My understanding is they haven't made the decision yet. Hopefully the OUTRAGE will set them straight.

Charles Steinberg is on WEEI right now. Obviously, his ears hurt. :D They are telling him Ring Day must be on Opening Day. I think he's getting it.

This whole thing should not be about hurting the Yankees' feelings. It should celebrate the accomplishments that the Red Sox made in 2004.If the Yanks feel that they would be offended by this, that's thier problem.
The fans deserve this celebration on Opening Day! They deserve to see the Championship flag raised. They deserve to see the players get thier rings on Opening Day,period!

In 2001, the Mets raised the NL Pennant in front of the Braves on Opening Day.
In 2005, the Sox most certainly CAN AND SHOULD raise the World Series flag and hand out rings on Opening Day.
The Yankees would never in a million, billion, nay, trillion years refrain from rubbing the Sox noses in it. Why should the Sox refrain from having their ceremony in front of the Yankees? I want to see those rings glistening in the sunlight. I want that flag flapping in the breeze. I want those fans to make more noise than they've ever made before. And I want the Yankees and their fans to hear it.
And besides, Gina said she'll tape it for me, and we'd already had the whole thing planned. ;)

I was watching Tony Kornheiser just now,and he chimed in on this issue, saying that they should give the rings out on Opening Day,then he said they should give out more rings in the 2nd game, and more rings in the 3rd game of the series.I thought it was funny.

Then they should have a backup ring ceremony at Yankee Stadium once the Fenway ceremony is done.
Have the Red Sox come to the Bronx on an off day, when the Yankees are at home, and come in during the 5th inning and have a ring ceremony there right in the middle of the game.

Terry Francona was on with Michael (Shill Boy) Kay last night, and he said he agreed with the idea of not giving out rings on Opening Day.
But then Shill said "Why in the world not? The Yankees wouldn't have a problem doing it!" It's rare that I agree with Michael Kay, but this is one time that I do.
I'm with Babs -- the idea of Mendoza coming out of the Skank pen to receive his WS ring with Red Sox on it warms my heart. :D

Apparently the rings may not be ready by Opening Day according to John Henry. WTF? They've had all off-season to get this done. Geez!

If the rings "aren't ready" for opening day, it's a scam and a travesty...
and somehow, we all know the rings CAN be ready.
Red Sox fans, and the team deserve their rings on the traditional day to get those rings.
As a life long Dodger fan, with my greatest memory ever being the 1955 World Series, I can assure everyone that those Yankees can handle losing the odd post-season tilt....they just don't like it to happen too often. ;)

By HOWARD ULMAN, AP Sports Writer
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Boston Red Sox (news) minority owner Tom Werner prefers that the players receive their World Series (news - web sites) rings on the day of their home opener April 11 against the New York Yankees (news).
"There's a lot of debate about the proper time to do it," he said Monday, "but I think the fans deserve to see it on opening day, but that's just one man's opinion."
He said he planned to meet Tuesday with principal owner John Henry and chief executive officer Larry Lucchino and expected a decision soon. Henry has said the timing of the ceremony could depend on when the rings are ready.
The team has received numerous suggestions from inside and outside the organization, executive vice president for public affairs Charles Steinberg said. They include distributing the rings at a charitable fundraiser.
Werner said that the club plans to distribute rings to about 500 members of its organization and that Red Sox research shows that championship rings were given out at a home opener only once. Curt Schilling has told the club he thinks they should be presented before Boston's home opener.
"We'll focus on it and the fans will be very pleased with the solution," Werner said.
He also said the ceremony would be done tastefully and would not be perceived as an attempt to rub into the Yankees the fact that the Red Sox beat them in the AL championship series.
"The Yankees can always sit in the clubhouse," Werner said. "It's not going to be a very long ceremony, so we care about doing things in a first-class fashion and we'll do it appropriately."

Today's New York Post (http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/40280.htm) says the ceremony will be on Opening Day.
My favorite part, of course, will be watching to see if Ramiro Mendoza comes out of the Skank bullpen to get his.
I can hardly wait... :D

I am glad that the Sox players will get the rings in the home opener. That's the way it should be. I am suprised that the Red Sox made it as an issue about whether or not to give the rings in front of the Yankees in the home opener. That's silly. Rings should be given in the home opener for the fans. It's just that the Yankees fell on the Red Sox home opener schedule.
Since LeiterFan mentioned a NY paper talking about the ring ceremony, I have to say that it's interesting that the NY papers in the NY Post and the NY Daily News have dispatched several writers to cover the Red Sox spring training camp. There is like every article on the Red Sox everyday in the NY papers this year. I know the Red Sox actually have a fanbase here in the NY/NJ area and I know the Red Sox players provide information for the writers, but geez. This is the first time I seen this. The Red Sox get more attention in the NY papers that the Jersey sports teams.
