This is probably old news, but it just caught my attention for the first time today. That is Auburn gaving its players national championship rings for their 13-0 season.
That's embarrassing! I would be ashamed to wear one of those things. If they want to wear rings saying they were undefeated Sugar Bowl champs or SEC champs, that's fine. And they have every reason to be bitter about not getting a chance to play for the national championship, but to go around claiming that title when USC finished No. 1 in both polls is ridiculous.
Were they were victims of a flawed system? Yes! Did they have a great season? Yes! Could they have beaten USC? We'll never know, but probably not. But are they co-national champs? No way!
