HBO Sports is airing on July 11th a documentary about Bobby Thomson's famous home run against the Dodgers that gave the New York Giants the 1951 National League pennant. It's an old story, but The Shot Heard 'Round the World should be very informative and entertaining, if it is anything close to the usual standards of HBO Sports. I really enjoyed their When it Was a Game series, and their movie Soul of the Game I highly recommend if you haven't seen it already.

Then, why are you there?
Seriously Shawn, through the miracles of modern technology, I will be recording the program. If you e-mail me a drop-box number, I'm sure I could get a copy of it to you. You do have a VCR, a TV and electricity? http://forum.addictsports.com/baseball/ubb/biggrin.gif

The manager of the Dodgers, Charlie Dressen, was ripped by his pitchers all season as having no clue about how to use his staff. He had run the pitching into the ground and they were getting by on fumes...

Good point, Jimbo. While everyone seems to focus on the incredible run the Giants made that season, little is usually said about the plight of the Dodgers. I'll be interested to see how the program portrays the Dodgers, or if they're even mentioned, outside of that last game.

So, did anyone else watch it? I thought it was pretty good - a lot of fantastic footage of the season. It seemed to be a little bit slanted toward the Giants and Dodgers vs the Yankees, at least the first half. I wont give it all away (except the part where The Giants Win! The Giants Win! The Giants Win!).
btw - I mailed the tape this afternoon, Shawn, so you should have it in a day or two.
