PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Scott Erickson, in his first game back from elbow surgery, pitched three innings Sunday in the Baltimore Orioles' 7-5 loss to the New York Mets.
Erickson, who missed last season after undergoing surgery in August 2000, allowed five hits and two runs in his spring debut.
The Mets trailed 5-3 in the eighth inning when Brett Kay hit a game-tying double. Tony Tarasco's sacrifice fly gave New York a 6-5 lead and Luis Figueroa singled to account for the final run.
Righthander Pete Walker shut down the Orioles in the ninth, with a little help from 18-year-old shortstop Luis Reyes who made a pair of slick plays for the first two outs and Jorge Velandia snaring a line drive at third to end the contest.
"It was nice that the young guys were part of a comeback victory,' Mets manager Bobby Valentine said. "That's part of a building block for a good season."
New York's Steve Trachsel allowed one run in two innings.
"I felt like I worked pretty quick and threw a lot of my pitches for strikes," Trachsel said. "I'm a lot more positive with everything, playing a little bit looser and trying not to put as much pressure on myself to throw perfect pitches every single time. "
Aaron Heilman, New York's first-round draft in 2001, allowed three runs in the fifth inning.

According to the boxscore, Bordy, who Hargrove is still trying out batting third, instead of eighth, went 1 for 2, and scored a run, and.... hmmmm... look at this.... Trachs seems to have hit him with a pitch, and so did Heilman!!! :angry:
