Colorado right-handed pitcher Shawn Chacon was hit on the outside of his throwing wrist by a pitch on Monday. But X-rays didn't show a break, and Chacon has time on his side, since his first regular-season start is not until April 12 at Arizona.
Chacon was bunting in each inning of an intrasquad game designed to give left-handed No. 3 starter Jeff Francis some work. Francis threw a high-and-inside pitch that hit Chacon as he leaned and tried to pull the bat out of the way.
Colorado head trainer Keith Dugger said the Rockies are trying to control the swelling so that the injury doesn't threaten Chacon's next spring start, Thursday in the Cactus League finale against the Chicago White Sox. Chacon is scheduled for 75-80 pitches.
I think he will be solid for the Rox as a starter again but he has to stay heathy for the season to help. He has been great for two years that he has started for those few games but also hurt most of those years also...

Still wearing his Colorado Rockies-issued gear, newly appointed closer Chin-hui Tsao skipped through the Hi Corbett Field parking lot, fired up his car and went out in search for answers regarding his tricky right shoulder.
But answers never seem to come quickly or easily with Tsao, who hasn't pitched since Wednesday. The Rockies were hoping Tsao would have an MRI and the results could be read by the end of the day on Monday. However, manager Clint Hurdle said the MRI machine broke down while getting a reading on Tsao's shoulder. Tsao was hoping the machine would be fixed in time for him to have the procedure at some point on Monday.
But everyone wants to know if Tsao is OK in the immediate sense, and if he'll be ready for the April 4 opener at Coors Field against San Diego. In a sense, Tsao is racing against time. If he doesn't pitch in a game before the season begins -- and considering he has to build up to it, the earliest it can happen is Thursday -- he'll start 2005 on the disabled list.
Guys on the team breaking down and now the machines are breaking down...

Desi Relaford (knee) is scheduled to be activated from the 15-day disabled list tomorrow. To make room for Relaford on the roster, the Rockies are expected to send either Jeff Baker or Alfredo Amezega to the minors.

Preston Wilson was given yesterday off to rest his surgically repaired left knee. "This is something we want to stay on top of to keep it in the best shape possible," Wilson said.

An already reeling bullpen took a hit when LHP Bobby Seay went on the D.L. with a strained pectoral muscle. Seay was one of just two lefthanders in the bullpen, and the team is high on him. . . .

Left-handed reliever Bobby Seay, whose chest muscle injury has been a blow to the bullpen, will report to Colorado Springs on Friday and begin a rehab assignment.
Seay threw a light bullpen session at Coors Field on Thursday and will throw another on Saturday. The Sky Sox staff will then determine when Seay can appear in a game. Seay will make the Sky Sox's next road trip, to Tacoma and Portland starting Monday, according to Rockies head trainer Keith Dugger.
