great game tonight. i thought Illinois would win going in, but UNC proved me wrong. but you have to give shitloads of credit to Illinois for coming back in tonights game. they coulda quit like so many teams do against UNC facing that margin, but they came back and fought.

UNC was just the superior team tonight. my hats off to them.

and illinois has NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING to be ashamed about. they made it to the championship game and thats all you can ask for.

Man, that game was exciting. too bad UNC won, but still. hats off to them.

I obviously did not see the game since I was working and I could not record it since my cable is disconnected. I probably wasn't going to record it since I figured Illinois would win. I was very shocked when I checked on ESPN.com. I am stunned.

I thought Illinois had better team cohesion and a great coach. I thought Illinois was the sum of its whole parts. They had it all. I did not think they were going to be denied. I think catching up this time might have caught up to them. You can only come back and win so many times. I think Illinois ran deep into the well this time and they paid for it tonight.

Congrats to Roy Williams. I am glad he finally got that monkey of his back and I am glad we don't have to read about him getting that title now. It can get real old after awhile. Now Roy does not have to apologize or answer those questions after all. I sense that he was tight about this game in his press conference Sunday. Now he can savor it and enjoy it. Roy is a class act and I am really happy that he can have a national championship of his own. I can't help but be happy for him.

As for Illinois, it stinks that they did not win it all, but they had a great year and the future is bright for that basketball team. As I mentioned Saturday, I gave my props to Illinois for coming back against Louisville. They got nothing to hang their heads. Bruce Weber did a very good job getting the most out of that team and there is no reason to think that will change. I think they will get better recruits with this run and they are going to love playing in Weber's offense. The future is bright for that team. They will eventually win it all real soon as long as Webber is there.

I tip my hat off to both teams.

It was a great game. Congrats to UNC (even though I still hate the ACC).

Like I said in another post; Illinois would have to contain May in order to win. If May had a big game it would be tough for the Illini to overcome it. UNC played great, but I think Illinois played better in the 2nd half. There were some questionable calls like the fouls on Augustine and the lack of foul calls on UNC. I also watched May walk no less than twice, but there was no call. I am not making excuses, just making observations.

Illinois had a bad shooting night and had no answer for May. Sure would have been nice to have Brian Cook back tonight. Cook would have shut down May. I have been thinking all year that if Cook was still with the team (impossible I know, but a guy can dream), that Illinois would not have lost a game at all, including tonight.

I think if Augustine had not had foul trouble, then it would have been different; although Ingram played great in place of Augustine.

I wonder about Illinois' future. Coach Webber has done a pretty good job recruiting, but has had a couple highly prized recruits stab him in the back and opt to break thier word and go to Duke. Powell and Head are seniors, and it looks like Brown and Williams will go pro. Augustine will likely stay, but I am not sure how good we will be next year. Prolly not good enough to contend. It remains to be seen. Nothing would make me happier than to hear that Brown and Williams decide to stay and make another run.

Damn, I am disappointed!

It was a good game and I am very happy for Williams.. A classy coach that deserves this...

I told a lot of peeps way back in November that I thought NC would win it all and they made me look good on that (plus win me a lot of money);)

Carolina is a very good team as is Illinois... Difference was they couldn't contain May as Hoss had feared in another thread...

Fun entertaining game to watch and congrats to NC and my hats off to Illinois for never giving up and staying in the game even thru some good Carolina runs... It was a game of runs all around...

We are gonna celebrate all day!

Sean May did darn good all thru the tournament

Head and Williams missed their 3's which could've made things different for the Illinois in the final few seconds.

simple, UNC is a better team and they won.

Great game. Great comeback to get back in the game by Illinois. When the came back I thought they would pull it out but they just couldnt seem to get past that zone late in the game. A couple of guys in foul trouble hurt them also but they played there butts off as did NC. Two great teams and one great game.

Good game! Too bad Illi came up short toward the end of the game even though they tied up the game. Still, anyway, congrats to UNC!

Congrats to the Tar Heels on thier victory

Even though I'm disappointed that Illinois lost, they have a lot to be proud of this season.37-2 is absolutely nothing to sneeze at here. They were one basket away from completing thier 2nd comeback win form a 15-point deficit in the tournament.

Carolina did everything they had to do to win the game, and they deserved thier title.

Congrats to both teams on a great season.

It's going to be interesting to see who stays, who goes from UNC to the NBA.

I say....McCants and Felton go, Williams and May stay.

I don't think McCants is ready for the NBA though, I just think his ego might get to him; May would make the best NBA player...but he's just so dominating in the NCAA.

Also UNC has a nice freshman class that they've recruited (Tyler Hansbrough (can replace May or Williams if they decide to enter the draft), Bobby Frasor (can replace Felton as PG), Danny Green <--- amazing in the all american game)

Agreed. They called every touch foul possible.

Agreed, McCants isn't ready for NBA :yadda:
There's rumors that Felton might stay *fingers crossed*
99 % chance May will return for next year
