awesome article.
I think they forget to mention how harder it is for the Twins to get knocked out of the playoffs; the other big money teams and their players might face harsh critics at home but they have a nicer check waitin for them. Most of the players on the Twins in comparison to all the other salaries show they are in it to play, not to be overpayed. To me i think that would make gettin knocked out of the playoffs even harder, knowing you played a big money team that you could have beat but all America is gonna remember is that the big money team won and the "underdogs" got sent home.
Maybe this is what gives the Twins that unique charisma that they keep bringin to the ballpark over the last 3 years. I just hope they can keep bringing it and be like the Patriots in '01 and "come from no where" to win it all. Maybe I am wrong, though, and America does notice the Twins as being a force to be reckoned with but I don't think they take them as serious as they deserve, maybe because their players aren't filling up the highlight reels with homeruns.
The AL Central title is great and will be even better if won this year but I think Terry Ryan senses it as well, the Twins have to take that next step in order for them not to make winning the division a mundane thing like the Braves and to show their game can elevate beyond the AL Central. What is the spark? If the Twin's lineup heats up at the plate, look out high payrollers...
