Carlos Silva
The Twins placed Carlos Silva on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a torn meniscus in his right knee, according to the AP. Silva was impressive in his season debut Wednesday, scattering nine hits while allowing just one run in seven innings to pick up the win over the Mariners.

I thought it was a hoax till I read the Star-Tribune.
This is very devestating especially how he started off so well. I am so furious about this that it's not even funny. I think the Twins are screwed. I don't have any faith in Joe Mays and Kyle Lohse winning much games.
We are in huge trouble and when Carlos is back, who knows what will happen.

Well... I hope they give Baker a shot at the rotation.... I think he could handle it...and eventually slide either Mays (the theif) or Lohse out of the rotation...i think Baker has the potential to be the #3 while Radke sticks around...and our #2 When Radke hangs up the glove...
EDIT: Looks like they gave Gassner the first chance... well good luck to him...

Twins were not going to rush Baker too soon. Baker will be with the club later in the year like in late August or September.
I am curious to see what Gassner does.

Sucks on Silva that is for sure. High hope for him I had. But I hope it is just a rest he needs and can come back strong.
I havnt read anything on this so I dont know how long he is on the DL for so tomorrow I will look more into it.

ya, minnesotatwins.com is saying he is out atleast until after All Star break. crazy luck the last two years, that is in losing two promising players ready to have a career season both to unexpected knee injuries. :(

just read that if Silva opts to have the torn cartiledge removed he can be back after the Break, if he opts to repair the damage he is likely done for the season :(

Man this hurts. The Twins should still win the Div but it will hurt them a ton come playoffs.

Twins physician John Steubs, a knee specialist, examined pitcher Carlos Silva during Sunday's game and indicated that the injury might not be as extensive as originally believed. Silva still will seek other opinions on the meniscus tear in his right knee.
"He will see another doctor, in agreement with an agent -- that's the normal procedure," Gardenhire said. "Then we will go from there."
The Twins were worried that Silva would miss three months if the torn meniscus was removed and that Silva would miss the rest of the season if it was repaired.
Joe Mays will assume Silva's spot in the rotation and will start Tuesday. Lefthander Dave Gassner will replace Silva on the roster and move into the No. 5 spot in the rotation.
How good would that be if it isnt as bad as we thought!!!

I echo the same thoughts that you just said, Durango.

Apr. 12 The Twins plan to send Carlos Silva (P) Min for a third opinion before determining the best course of treatment for the torn meniscus in Silva's right knee, according to the Star-Tribune. There's a chance that Silva could avoid surgery and return in just a few weeks.
