Hi, can I talk about Tim Redding here?

Great quote in the North County Times, Escondido, CA.

"Sometimes you have to pick the players up," said Redding, whom the Padres landed in a trade with the Houston Astros late in spring training. "It was my fault as much as it was anybody else's."

I hope this is a sign of good things to come. I am one of maybe half a dozen people on the planet who likes this guy and now that he's not on my team, I'm not afraid to admit it.

But of course Annie! Welcome. :wavey:

I'm hopeful that this is a good sign, I just feel like he can no longer pitch for a long stretch of time, meaning deep into games. I am concerned because I don't want the bullpen over used.

With that said, Redding showed me some brilliance in his start. The problem is, he has one bad inning and usually it's because he's not stretched out. Actually maybe he can go longer in his next start and maybe keep the Pads in the game. That's all you can ask for a fifth starter.

But I have to admit, I was very unhappy about this trade. I think the 'Stros got the FAR better end of the deal. But I know Padre fans that disagree with me on that.

I was hopeful that Redding would have a good start today. And so far he is. It's the Padres offense that has suddenly gone ice cold. :Pissed:

But it's nice to see him pitching okay. He's still made some mistakes though. Back to Back HRs, that might be the ballgame.

The acid test with Redding, is how he reacts and handles those mistakes. Especially errors that allow baserunners. In the past, Tim imploded more often than not in those cases. The guy has a ton of talent, hope you guys learn how to harness it.

The jury is still out on him then. Thanks TC for the info. I'll be sure to watch how he handles his situations. He didn't pitch horrible, and he's learning the Padres system. I'll give him til next month to see what he can do. I mean with a 5th starter, if they can keep the team in the game, that's all you can ask.
