Minnesota Twins pitcher Carlos Silva will soon see another doctor for further analysis on his injured right knee, but the right-hander might not be as hurt as badly as initially believed.
Silva was examined Monday by Dr. John Steubs, one of the Twins' physicians, and Dr. Joel Boyd, a physician for the NHL's Minnesota Wild. Both concluded Silva has a torn meniscus in the knee, as the team revealed Saturday.
But Steubs and Boyd both suggested the injury could be less extensive than originally thought. At first, the Twins said Silva could miss the season and be out until at least the All-Star break.
"There's a little more optimism," said general manager Terry Ryan, who was trying to line up Silva's next doctor visit.
It would be nice to see him back after a trip to the 15 day DL....
Eddie Guardado had a similar injury a few years ago and was back in three weeks. Hopefully, we are looking at something similar

It just depends on what the Docs find. If it aint that bad then it will be great to have him back soon.

I am glad that he may be back in June as Lavelle E. Neal III suggested. I am still amazed how he got hurt. He looked very good last week and he did not seem like he was in pain. I am still stunned that he is hurt.

Minnesota is hoping for better news on right-handed starter Carlos Silva, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a torn meniscus in his right knee. Silva is scheduled to visit Dr. David Lintner, medical director for the Astros, in Houston on Wednesday for another opinion.
If Lintner's diagnosis is the same as the Twins' doctors, Silva should be able to come off the DL when he's eligible on April 22, pitch through the injury this year and delay surgery until after the season.
The team initially believed Silva might be out for the year, or at least until after the All-Star break.
Damm this guy is getting flown around the country to have his knee check out!!!!!
But that is good. I love what this guy can bring to the table and I would hate to see him get messed up because he come back to soon. He is on the 15 day DL so let him get checked out by 10 more doc's if need be and if they all say good to go then get his ass back on the bump!!!!!!
Has anyone heard when or what he did to hurt it?

Haven't heard a word about how he got hurt, I'm still very confused about it still too. But I agree, take him to as many doctors as they need as long as his ass is back on the mound I'll be happy.

The Twins won't have to wait so long to get starting pitcher Carlos Silva back on the mound after all.
Silva, diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, got his second opinion Wednesday in Houston. Astros medical director Dr. David Lintner confirmed the diagnosis of Twins physician John Steubs and Wild orthopedist Joel Boyd -- surgery can wait and the right-hander can resume pitching.
"Ultimately this thing will have to be repaired, but Dr. Lintner agreed we could wait until after the season," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said.
"That's nice news," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We were hoping to hear that."
After an MRI Saturday, the 25-year-old Silva was originally told the 70 percent tear in his knee would need immediate surgery that could have kept him out beyond the All-Star break or possibly the entire season. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 7.
Optimism didn't build until Steubs first saw the pitcher on Sunday. His opinion, concurred by Lintner, was that since the injury was in Silva's push-off leg, he couldn't do further damage and risk his future.
"It feels a lot better than it did three days ago, to be able to talk about Silva and his future," Ryan said.
Silva is scheduled to throw in a bullpen session Thursday. He will likely make a Minor League start to keep up his arm strength before he is eligible to come off the disabled list April 22. If all goes well, the Twins plan to insert him back into the rotation that day and push everyone back with an extra day of rest.

This is great. Take it easy and he should be able to get though the season and my CY Young pick can still be there!!!!!

That is a relief. I am glad he is not having surgery. I hope he does not go to any more cities when he get another opinion. All the doctors say that he is ready to pitch so it's time for him to get some rest and get going. It's very important that he is here and it's important he is productive too.

The Twins have been doing fine without him the last couple of games, but they will need him for the season long run. He needs to rest it up every chance he can get though so he doesn't further his injury any more or the Twins will be in trouble.
