I got an e-mail from my friend Ginger Perkins yesterday. Her theatrical production company, Frantic Redhead, is the company with whom I go to Scotland every August.

She and her husband, Bill Immerman, have a film production company...... Crusader Productions - they were one of the producers of Ray.

Anyhoo......... Crusader has produced a movie called The Game of Their Lives........ a soccer/football movie. Ginger wanted a bunch of us to spread the word. They want butts in the seats! :D

At the risk of being accused of spamming, here's an exerpt from her e-mail:

Subj: Ginger Perkins and Bill Immerman announce "The Game of Their Lives"
................
Attached is a list of theatres where the film Ginger and Bill produced, “The Game of Their Lives”, will be playing on April 22, opening weekend. The movie is being released in St. Louis where the film was shot and where a large part of the real story takes place, in Indiana, home state of Angelo Pizzo, writer and producer, and David Anspaugh, director, (the team that created “Hoosiers” and “Rudy” ) and in the cities with major league soccer teams. If the film does well in the initial markets, “Game” will be released in other cities as the audience builds. We need your help for the opening week-end and beyond.

“The Game of Their Lives” is based on the true story of the 1950 US World Cup soccer team composed primarily of first generation Americans and World War II veterans who were given only ten days to practice together before traveling to Brazil to compete against the best teams in the world. The English team was picked to win the World Cup, though the Brazilian team and the team from Uruguay and Spain were also given “odds” to win. In fact, all the teams except the American team were given “odds” to win. None of the sports writers, bookies or soccer fans expected the US team to even win a match, much less the World Cup. And certainly no one expected the American team to give the English team a good game. But no one had factored in the determination and pride of those American men. And, in one of the most exciting soccer games ever played, the US team defeated the English team 1-0 in what is still considered to be one of the most brilliant sports upsets in world sport history. The film is rated PG for mild language and thematic elements and will be enjoyed by young and old alike. There is no nudity, no love-making scenes, no violence, and the swear words are “damn”, “hell” and “ass”, I think.

If you live in or near one of the cities where “The Game of Their Lives” is playing, would you please go and see the film on opening week-end. You won’t be disappointed. It would be great if you can organize a group to go at special rates (soccer teams, church groups, women’s groups, poker game groups, any group). The toll free number to call to arrange groups for the film is 800-215-2971.

-----------------------------------

Hope some of you can try to see it! I'm sure you'll enjoy it! By the way, the guy in my avatar..... Gerard Butler...... is in the movie! (On Edit: I changed my avatar...... so...no, Mike Bordick and Brian Roberts are not in this movie. :D )

Here's the attachment with the list of theatres:

This movie is getting reasonably good attention, Nan. The game is not only one of the most shocking in history, it's also one of the funniest if you hate England. :D

I was pretty much certain to go see this, even before I knew that Ginger was involved. Should be excellent.

Oh, and Nancy....there was a story in one of the papers over here a few days ago about Gerard Butler talking at his friend's wedding, and then sitting down facing the church, but not adjusting his kilt accordingly. Apparently his mother was sitting in the front row trying to signal to him to close his legs! :lmao:

YAY!!!!

This is so ironic. I'm dying to see this movie, and it's showing on Long Island, of all places. :(

I wish they'd put it in a theatre in NYC. :(

I'm hoping it makes an appearance in this neck of the woods at some point or other.

I had no idea the dude from that band Bush was in it. The whole time during the movie I was wondering why he looked so damn familiar...guess that's why! :)
