Does anyone else look back at past couple of seasons, and question some of the trades made by Kevin Towers?

The Padre's lineup could look like this, if crappy trades weren't made....

1.Kotsay
2.Loretta
3.Klesko
4.Nevin
5.Bay/Nady
6.Greene
7.Burroughs
8.Quintero/Ojeda

SP-Peavy, Perez, Eaton, Lawrence, Tankersly
RP-Same

Oh well, the trades can't be undone...but it is nice to dream sometimes.

When the Pads traded away Quintero, I screamed. That kid was good but he deserved a chance to play in the big leagues and he wasn't getting it in SD. When the Pads got Redding, I screamed. But I was told by a Padres fan that I was over reacting. But noone can deny that ever since Izzy was traded, the Pads have been cursed with that #5 starter. No wins yet since last year's trading deadline.

The Kotsay trade, I'm okay with coz I think that Ramon Hernandez helps the pitching staff alot and it goes unnoticed. So yes, the Pads traded some right now much needed offense at the top of the lineup but really I think Roberts will work out well. Hernandez gives alot more to the Pads overall than a combination of Ojeda/Quintero combo. And really, it's such a breath of fresh air from the Bennett/Gonzalez/Davis/Lampkin era, doncha think?

I understood the Giles for Perez/Bay because Bay wasn't ready, Perez had control problems even showing moments of brilliance and Nady was not ready for the Dance. So, Towers jumped the gun a bit and got impatient with Nady. :notme: I don't know if Ollie will ever turn into the pitcher we saw moments of, especially against the Yankees in '03.

Just curious. I know we have discussed the trade before, but how in the world could you say that Bay wasnt ready?? What has he done in his time since he left the Padres to show that he wasnt ready? It wasnt winning the ROY award was it?? I would say that shows he wasnt ready. yup..;)

No, he wasn't ready when with the Padres. THAT's what I meant. When Bay was with the Padres, there was little talk about him, Nady was always the outfielder they were excited about. Bay wasn't expected to be ready. Obviously they were wrong.

I definately like Hernandez, but I'm a big Kotsay fan. His defense is way under-rated. He could have definately patrolled CF in Petco. Then, overpaying for Roberts would not be needed.

Perez was brilliant last year. If he played for a decent team, he woulda had 20 wins. Almost 11 K's per 9, 2.99 ERA. At Petco, he would have been a Cy Young contender!

As far as Nady/Bay, either one of them over the aging/declining/free agent at the end of this year, Brian Giles.

Just because somebody does good in one system, doesn't mean they'll do good in another system. Or even have the position available to groom them for. Look at Phil Nevin, the Pad's gave him a chance to play everyday, and not just be a utility catcher after failing as a top prospect. Or Brian Giles. He was given the chance to play everyday in Pittsburgh after being stuck on the bench in Cleveland, and he broke out into an All Star type player. This happens with every team.

Really good point Tigers#1  There are too many players over the years that excelled in one system but didn't on their original team. I don't think Bay would have flourished in either the Mets system or the Padres system if here were left in either. But I could be wrong. :notme: It's just great to see his talent is able to excel somewhere.

Shawn, you causing trouble again? :nono1:

;)

The Padres thought Bay wasn't ready, they traded him. Be thankful you got him and got rid of a big contract.

and I hit the edit button again instead of the quote button. That's annoying!
