- I have always had a terrible memory for names but a great memory for quotes and I also believe that some of the funniest and also some of the wisest quotes of all time have come from sports people. So I thought I'd create a forum for famous/funny/wise sports quotes and see what comes up.

- I'll start with three of my favourites and if you post some of yours, I'll share some more of mine and so, hopefully, it will go ... and go ... and go.

- Speaking of memory, here is what the great GM Branch Rickey had to say about the four phases of aging as related to memory: "First you forget names; then you forget faces; then you forget to zip up your fly; and then you forget to unzip your fly."

- Yogi Berra, upon hearing from his wife, Carmine, that she had just been to see Doctor Zhivago, "Oh, what's the matter with you now?"

- US Chief Justice Earl Warren on why he turned first to the sports pages,
"The sports pages record people's accomplishments. The front page usually records nothing but man's failures."

- GOOD ONES, ROYCE! Here's some more of my favourites:

- Ron Marciel as head football coach of St. Louis High in Honolulu comments on his team's prospects for the new season, "We started throwing the ball well last year. If we can catch it this year, we should be OK."

- Dodger second baseman Fresco Thompson, after being greeted by new lockermate Babe Herman with "It's a hell of a note to dress with a .250 hitter" responds! "How do you think I feel dressing with a .250 fielder?".

- Football player and later TV comedy star Alex Karras on why he didn't graduate from Iowa State University, "I was only there for two terms - Truman's and Eisenhower's."

- Broadcaster Frankie Frish, "It's a beautiful day for a night game."

- Mets manager Casey Stengel on why he received a birthday cake on his birthday but butterfingered Marv Throneberry got none on his, "They were afraid he'd drop it."

SO KEEP THE FUN QUOTES COMING EVERYBODY.
