The Los Angeles Dodgers failed to approach a fan who grabbed Colorado Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday during Friday's game, prompting Major League Baseball to send representatives from New York to Dodger Stadium to investigate the problem Sunday.

Dodgers security officials said they were unaware of the episode in the game Friday because they do not see the television video feed. They apparently didn't pay attention to the scoreboard at Dodger Stadium, either.

The scoreboard not only replayed the man grabbing Holliday when he tried to field a J.D. Drew home run in the seventh inning Friday, but it also showed the man and some friends high-fiving each other after the episode.

"The situation was not handled properly that night, but there's nothing we can do about it now," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said. "It lays in the lap of the Dodgers. They have to get it right."

Interestingly, the Dodgers were able to watch the television video feed Saturday, when Dodgers announcer Vin Scully pointed out that Rockies pitcher Joe Kennedy was violating rules because his foot was not in contact with the rubber when he took the sign from the catcher. In the fourth inning, after being informed about the television feed, Dodgers manager Jim Tracy complained to the umpires, who ordered Kennedy to keep in contact with the rubber.

Hurdle said he spoke Saturday with Kevin Hallinan, MLB director of security, and Hallinan sent George Hannah from his office to Dodger Stadium.

"I was proud of the way Matt Holliday handled the situation," Hurdle said. "He handled it like a seasoned pro. . . . No matter what, in every case, the player has to walk away."

A Dodgers spokesman said team officials had no plans to try to identify the man, nor did they intend to take any action against him.

The Dodger Stadium spectator was more flagrant in his interfering with Holliday than a Fenway Park spectator was when he took a swipe at Yankees outfielder Gary Sheffield last month. The Red Sox not only ejected the man, but they also rescinded his season ticket.

Several years ago, the Dodgers raised a fuss about fans at Wrigley Field after several Dodgers players went in the stands to challenge those who were bothering players in the Dodgers bullpen.

What the hell the Dodgers aint going to do nothing. This happens at a Red Sox Yankees game and all hell breaks lose. But Holliday does what a ball player should do and let the right people take care of it and nothing happens......

Damn that pisses me off. This guy deserves to be praised for this. He's a good player and would love to see him get some attention, but even when he does a good thing by not reacting we don't hear about that at all.

What he said...

You know unless it's the Yankees or Red Sox or Barry Bonds, the national sports media doesn't cover it. There is that East Coast bias problem but I think really it's more of northeast bias and it's not fair that guys like Holliday and others do not get props for what they do.
