CHICAGO (AP) -- Orlando Hernandez will be placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Chicago White Sox, who have the best record in baseball.
Hernandez, 5-1 with a 3.91 ERA, has a sore muscle in the back of his shoulder, White Sox general manager Kenny Williams said Saturday. Hernandez had been scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
The move to the DL would take effect Sunday, and the team is expected to call up Brandon McCarthy from Triple-A Charlotte. An official roster move was expected after Saturday's game against the Cubs.
Hernandez struggled in his previous start against Texas on Monday night, giving up six runs, seven hits and four walks in 2 2-3 innings.
