Scott Kazmir
Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Yeah, he's back. Kazmir has had back to back solid starts. At Detroit he walked four but showed moxie in navigating through his troubles to keep the Tigers to two runs through 5 2/3 innings. Against the Athletics he was much more consistent, walked just one batter and held the A's to one run. This week he faces the weak Oakland lineup again and goes to friendly Safeco to face the Mariners.
Ted Lilly
Toronto Blue Jays
Lilly has back-to-back good starts after six straight horrid ones. His ERA over those six starts: 12.31. His last two: 1.42. This week I think he can keep it up as he faces the same two teams as Kazmir, the struggling M's and light hitting A's.
Brett Tomko
San Francisco Giants
Tomko has been very effective of late with a 2.89 ERA over his last four starts. He has always had great stuff but never been able to put it together for a full season. Last year he was the Giants' best pitcher down the stretch going 10-3 in his final 19 starts. He hasn't been helped by much run support with Bonds out of the lineup, but he has a respectable ERA at 4.05 and WHIP at 1.26. Being used as a spot starter, he can be very valuable to a fantasy team. This week he gets the struggling Phillies and horrid Randy Wolf and should pitch in friendly Shea Stadium on Sunday.
Kyle Davies
Atlanta Braves
As a Mets fan, it's tough for me to pick Braves in this column. But how can you argue with a guy who hasn't allowed a run in his first two Major League starts? He was knocked out of his last start after getting hit on the ribs with a line drive, but it's just a bruise and he should be fine. He's still penciled in to make two starts this week and those will be versus the Nationals and Pirates, two favorable matchups.
This is just a sample. Check out my previous picks and the results on the site in my sig.
