Evert promoted to Huntsville

Huntsville, AL- The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that pitcher Brett Evert has been promoted from single-A Brevard County to Huntsville. Evert will join the Stars in Huntsville during their current series against the Mississippi Braves. He was 0-2 with two saves and a 5.06 ERA in seven relief appearances with the Manatees in the Florida State League.

Evert was originally selected by Atlanta in the seventh round of the 1999 draft and pitched in the Braves system through August, 2004 when he was released and then claimed by Seattle. He was released by the Mariners and signed as a free agent by the Brewers as a free agent on May 12, 2005.

The right hander spent the 2004 season with the Greenville Braves, Richmond Braves, and Tacoma Rainiers. Evert went 4-3 with a 4.07 ERA in 22 games with Greenville and finished 2-1 with a 7.03 ERA in seven games for Richmond. After being claimed by the Mariners, Evert went 0-2 with a 6.48 ERA in two starts for the Rainiers. He also pitched in the Southern League for Greenville in 2002 and 2003.

Evert will take the roster spot of pitcher Alec Zumwalt who was placed on the disabled list after he broke a bone in his right hand when he was hit by a pitch trying to bunt on Sunday afternoon. Zumwalt, 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA in 27 games this season, is expected to miss four to six weeks with the injury.

Zumwalt was acquired by the Brewers from the Atlanta Braves along with pitcher Jose Capellan in exchange for pitcher Dan Kolb on December 13, 2004.
