SAN DIEGO -- Adam Eaton, who leads the San Diego Padres' pitching staff with eight victories, has a strained tendon in his right elbow and likely will be put on the 15-day disabled list after the All-Star break.
The Padres say Eaton's injury isn't as serious as a similar injury that has sidelined lefthanded reliever Kevin Walker since May 22.
Eaton (8-5, 4.32 ERA) said he felt something in his elbow while throwing curveballs for his final two pitches in the eighth inning of San Diego's 4-0 loss to Colorado on Thursday. He had an MRI exam on Friday night.
Eaton won't pick up a ball for seven days, and it'll be a couple of weeks before he starts again, manager Bruce Bochy said.
"I feel better today than I did yesterday by a lot," Eaton said before Saturday night's game against Texas.
"To be hurt, this is the ideal time," Eaton said, referring to the All-Star break. "I'm not going to be tempted to throw or anything like that. I can step away from the game and not have to worry about my performance or anything like that."
Righthander Brian Tollberg (broken middle finger) is to rejoin the rotation after the break.
