Jets: More details on Martin's surgery
The News
After revealing that Curtis Martin will undergo season-ending surgery on his right knee on Sunday, more information is gradually trickling in. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the team is calling Martin's injury a sprained knee, and they believe the damage can be repaired with a relatively simple arthroscopic procedure, unless the injury is more severe than expected once the knee is scoped. Martin is set to undergo surgery on Wednesday.
Our View
There you have it. It sounds like the injury is not severe enough to be considered career-threatening, but questions remain about his role with the Jets next year. Coach Herm Edwards told the Star-Ledger he thinks Martin will return next year, and Martin plans to do so, however he'll probably have to rework his salary. As it stands now, the 32-year-old will count $8.1 million against the cap next season, which is awfully expensive for a guy who may well be a backup, depending what route the Jets go in next year's draft.

Dolphins: McKinney's season could be over
The News
Center Seth McKinney suffered a serious knee injury during Sunday's win over the Chargers that could cause him to miss the rest of the season. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported on Tuesday that testing has not yet revealed the extent of the injury, but "a source" told the newspaper "Seth has some problems that week or two will not resolve."
Our View
This is certainly a blow to an offensive line that had jelled nicely under the leadership of offensive line Jedi Hudson Houck. Rex Hadnot will shift from right guard to center, with Alonzo Ephraim taking over Hadnot's vacated spot at guard. This turn of events will likely have an adverse affect on the fortunes of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, but since the effectiveness of both is already being sapped by their 50-50 timeshare in the backfield, it shouldn't affect fantasy owners too much.

Falcons: Vick leaves game with a rib injury
The News
Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was led to the locker room by trainers with less than 10 minutes remaining in Monday's game against the Saints. Five plays earlier, Vick took a hard shot to the chest from Saints linebacker Ronald McKinnon. Vick was slow to get up following the play and officials flagged McKinnon for roughing the passer. Michael stayed in the game for the remainder of the drive but appeared to be in pain. After the game, head coach Jim Mora told ABC that Vick suffered bruised ribs but will be healthy enough to play next Sunday against the Bears.
Our View
We'll keep a close eye on this story throughout the week. Despite Mora's claim, fantasy owners who have Vick on their rosters would be wise to acquire backup signal caller Matt Schaub for insurance purposes.

Chargers: Tomlinson considered questionable again
The News
The Chargers have listed running back LaDainian Tomlinson as questionable on their injury report for the second straight week because of his sore ribs. He played through the injury last Sunday against the Dolphins.
Our View
There's no reason to believe Tomlinson won't continue to suit up and play despite his sore ribs, so don't let his name being on the injury report impact how you use him.

49ers: Barlow unlikely to play
The News
49ers running back Kevan Barlow was held out of practice on Wednesday because of his injured knee and it is doubtful he'll play Sunday against the Jaguars, according to the team's website.
Our View
Barlow started feeling pain in his knee in the days prior to week 13 and he didn't play that Sunday because of it. He was able to play last week, but it appears he's not going to do so this Sunday. Frank Gore will get a bulk of the carries if Barlow is inactive.

Vikings: Tice confirms Williams will return
The News
The Viking will get defensive tackle Kevin Williams back from his knee injury this week against the Steelers, head coach Mike Tice told reporters on Wednesday.
Our View
Williams picked a good time to come back because the Vikings will need their defensive line to come through big against a Steelers team that will try to run the ball a lot.

Browns: Droughns listed as probable
The News
Browns running back Reuben Droughns is listed as probable for this Sunday's game against the Raiders with a strained knee and was able to practice on Wednesday, according to the team's website.
Our View
Droughns played through his knee problems last week and will be in uniform this Sunday in Oakland, a place he had success in when he was with the Broncos.

Redskins: Injury report has no Moss
The News
Redskins wideout Santana Moss has been dealing with an injured hamstring for the last week, but he is not on the team's weekly injury report.
Our View
Moss will be at full strength for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, a team he had two deep touchdowns against the last time he faced them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 8:31 PM ET
Browns: Frye's knee doesn't prevent him from practicing
The News
Browns quarterback Charlie Frye is listed as probable for this week's game against the Raiders with a sore knee and was able to participate in all of Wednesday's practice, according to the team's website.
Our View
Frye is slated to get his third straight start this week against the Raiders and hopefully will continue his development under center.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 8:25 PM ET
Panthers: Foster practices
The News
Panthers running back DeShaun Foster practiced on Wednesday despite suffering a shoulder stringer in last week's loss to the Buccaneers, head coach John Fox told the team's website. Foster is listed as probable on the injury report.
Our View
Foster is a solid fantasy choice this week because the Panthers typically have success running on the Saints and he'll be the team's primary back this time around.

Cardinals: Rackers probable to kick this week
The News
The Cardinals have classified kicker Neil Rackers as probable for this week's game against the Texans because of the injured calf that forced him to miss week 13.
Our View
Rackers was able to kick without incident last week and is a nice fantasy option against the Texans.

Bills: Holcomb to start in place of injured Losman
The News
Kelly Holcomb will start for the Bills against the Broncos on Saturday, head coach Mike Mularkey announced on Wednesday. He made his decision after J.P. Losman was forced to miss a second straight practice with an injured right shoulder and left leg.
Our View
Losman may be available as the team's No. 2 quarterback this Saturday, but that decision won't be made until practice on Thursday. Kyle Boller threw for over 250 yards and a touchdown against the Broncos last week, so while we can't recommend Holcomb as a fantasy starter, he's not so bad that we've soured on Lee Evans' potential this week.

Titans: McNair sits with a sore ankle
The News
Titans quarterback Steve McNair didn't participate in Wednesday's practice because of his sore left ankle. "Wednesday is hump day for him. Monday and Tuesday he was a little sore. His ankle is still a little sore, but we held him out and we will get him back out there tomorrow," head coach Jeff Fisher told the Associated Press. McNair is being listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
Our View
McNair is actually feeling better than he did last week and he was able to play through the injury then. As long as he returns to practice on Thursday as expected, we expect to see him under center on Sunday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 7:39 PM ET
Falcons: Vick probable for Sunday
The News
The Falcons have listed Michael Vick as probable for Sunday night's game against the Bears. He suffered bruised ribs in Monday's win over the Saints.
Our View
Vick and the team have been publicly confident he'll play Sunday and the fact he's listed as probable is another indication he'll be good to go. However, the Falcons have lied about his status for games before, so we'll be sure to watch the injury report all week to see if he is downgraded.

Patriots: Brady gets tagged as questionable
The News
Tom Brady joined many of his teammates on Wednesday when he was listed as questionable on the Patriots' official injury report with an injured shin. ESPN is reporting that he missed at least part of the team portion of practice on Wednesday, but Brady has been ordered to stay quiet on the subject. "You guys know Belichick doesn't like me talking about this stuff," he said. "He gave me strict instructions to keep quiet about it, and so that's what I'm doing."
Our View
We've run out of words to describe how tired and bored we are with Belichick's insistence on treating injuries like they are government secrets. Brady suffered the injury in last week's game against the Bills and played through it without any noticeable problems, so we expect him to be just fine against the Bucs on Saturday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 7:17 PM ET
Packers: Franks still unable to practice
The News
Packers tight end Bubba Franks failed to practice on Wednesday because of the neck and back injuries that have him questionable for Sunday, according to the team's website. The injuries forced him to miss last week's game against the Lions.
Our View
David Martin and Donald Lee would be the Packers' tight ends if Franks has to miss another game. They haven't done much to catch the eye of fantasy owners and that would be unlikely to change against the Ravens.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 6:58 PM ET
Eagles: McMahon practices through the pain
The News
Eagles quarterback Mike McMahon was able to practice on Wednesday despite a hip flexor strain and a knee contusion. "I'm a little sore. I'm a little banged up and beat up, but that's part of the game," McMahon told the team's website. "You want to be healthy and you want to be out there so you're 100 percent at your best, but that's part of the game."
Our View
Barring any setbacks, McMahon will make his fifth consecutive start this week against the Rams. St. Louis has a very permissive defense, but we can't get too excited about a quarterback who has failed to complete half of his passes in each of the last six games.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 6:46 PM ET
Lions: Jones looking doubtful
The News
The Lions have listed Kevin Jones as doubtful for this week's game against the Bengals and he was unable to practice on Wednesday, according to the team's website.
Our View
Jones suffered a nasty hyperextension of his elbow on Sunday night and we're not very confident he'll suit up this week. That means the Lions will likely use a combination of Shawn Bryson and Artose Pinner against the Bengals.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 6:39 PM ET
Bengals: Another Wednesday off for Rudi
The News
Bengals running back Rudi Johnson took his customary Wednesday off to rest his sore knee, according to the team's website. He is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Our View
We know some of you can't get through your Wednesday without knowing Rudi got the day off to rest his knee. Since we aim to please everyone, here you go.

Saints: Brooks benched
The News
Quarterback Aaron Brooks has started the last 82 games for the Saints, but head coach Jim Haslett has decided it is time to give someone else a turn. ESPN's Len Pasquarelli is reporting that Brooks has been benched in favor of backup Todd Bouman, who will be making his first start since being traded from the Vikings in 2003 when the Saints play the Panthers on Sunday. Brooks has led the team to a 3-10 record this season and is 38-44 since getting the starting job in 2000.
Our View
Brooks would have had his fifth straight season of more than 3,000 passing yards if he hadn't been demoted, but his days as a reliable fantasy option have passed. His touchdown totals have been declining since 2002 and he is no longer the rushing threat he was in his youth. Bouman isn't a guy you want to take a chance on this week against the Panthers, but it will be interesting to see if the Saints give him more than a one-game tryout as they evaluate their roster for 2006.

Chiefs: Allen not on the injury report
The News
The Chiefs released their official injury report on Wednesday and it didn't include defensive end Jared Allen, who was unable to practice on Tuesday because of food poisoning. Allen is currently sixth in the league in quarterback sacks.
Our View
Allen will be in the lineup against the Giants on Sunday, which is good news for his owners in IDP leagues but bad news for Eli Manning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 2:50 PM ET
Giants: Pierce, Joseph ruled out
The News
The Giants have listed linebacker Antonio Pierce and defensive tackle William Joseph as out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Both players suffered high ankle sprains in week 14, the Associated Press reported.
Our View
This news comes within one week of the local papers popping off about how wonderfully healthy the Giants have been this season. Don't they know better than to tempt fate? The Pierce loss will make it even tougher for the Giants to stop Larry Johnson.

December 14, 2005 2:45 PM ET
Raiders: Turner reverts back to Collins
The News
One miserable game after turning the Raiders offense over to Marques Tuiasosopo, head coach Norv Turner is going back to erstwhile starter Kerry Collins for this Sunday's game against the Browns. "I just felt that it was Kerry," he told the Associated Press. "It's not a reflection of Tui and his performance, because he knows there are things he could have done better, but we did not play well around him. We owe it to the guys on this team that are giving as much as they're giving, we owe them the best chance to find a way to win a game."
Our View
Tui turned the ball over four times, threw for just 124 yards, and led the team to 10 points against the lowly Jets, but this has nothing to do with his performance. Sure, Coach. In any case, regardless of his poor won-loss record, Collins was a top-10 fantasy quarterback at the time of his demotion. Considering the countless quarterback injuries we have sustained in recent weeks, he's a decent option against the Browns and Broncos in the next two weeks. The return of his strong arm should also distract Cleveland from focusing exclusively on LaMont Jordan.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 1:04 PM ET
Broncos: Foxworth will start
The News
With cornerback Darrent Williams out indefinitely with a groin injury, fellow rookie Dominique Foxworth will step into the starting lineup opposite Champ Bailey, the Denver Post reports.
Our View
With Bailey missing time earlier this season due to injury, both Williams and Foxworth saw a lot of playing time. Clearly, the Broncos defensive backfield will be lacking depth, but we're not sure the Bills passing game is qualified to exploit it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 12:31 PM ET
Rams: Cleeland one of two cuts
The News
The Rams released tight end Cam Cleeland and kick return specialist David Allen on Tuesday. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch speculates that practice squad players Jerome Collins and Jeremy Calahan will be promoted to the active roster to fill the vacated spots.
Our View
Collins is a tight end whom the team selected in the fifth-round of the draft. Calahan was an undrafted free agent. Neither player will make a fantasy impact this season.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 12:11 PM ET
Chiefs: Allen too ill to practice
The News
Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen, tied for sixth in the NFL in quarterback sacks, did not practice on Tuesday with what the team is calling food poisoning, the team's official website reports. His availability for Wednesday's workout is uncertain.
Our View
Since it never stops in the first place, you have to think Allen's motor was running even though he did not practice with the team. We expect him to suit up on Saturday against the Giants.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 11:59 AM ET
Broncos: Anderson slumping
The News
Masked by a 66-yard touchdown scamper on a screen pass, Mike Anderson is mired in a rushing slump. Anderson has just 89 total rushing yards in his last three games and has averaged just 2.8 yards per carry on 32 attempts. Despite remaining the starter, he has been out-gained on the ground by Tatum Bell in the last two games and by Ron Dayne in the previous contest.
Our View
As a whole the Broncos have not run the ball nearly as effectively in recent weeks. Fortunately, the Bills are on tap in week 15; no defense has ceded more rushing touchdowns, and only the Texans have allowed more yards on the ground. In addition, Anderson has been by far the most productive Broncos weapon on the road, scoring four times in his last five away games. Given the matchup, we'd keep Anderson active, but don't be surprised to see Bell remain a large part of the ground attack.

Cowboys: Witten voids four years of contract
The News
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has voided the final four years of his contract and will become a restricted free agent at the end of this season. "I hope [to stay with the Cowboys]," he told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "At the same time, I do realize this is a business. I am getting to the point now where I might see some of it."
Our View
This move comes as no surprise, and the Cowboys will certainly offer Witten the highest possible RFA tender this offseason. Also, this news really doesn't change our view of Jason being a top-tier fantasy option.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 11:28 AM ET
Rams: Bulger plays catch
The News
Rams quarterback Marc Bulger threw for the first time since he injured his shoulder back in week 11. "I couldn't get much velocity," Bulger told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I wouldn't be able to go in and throw deep outs and deep balls." Bulger will most likely be inactive on Sunday. Ryan Fitzpatrick has already been named the starter.
Our View
We do not expect Bulger to play again this season. He has injured his shoulder three times in the past and team officials believe he returned too soon each time. The Rams are out of the playoff hunt so it would make more sense to let the injury heal rather than rushing Bulger back into action.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 11:01 AM ET
Buccaneers: Bryant sits out
The News
Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant did not practice on Tuesday due to the hamstring injury that sidelined him in week 13. He handled all kicking duties last week and is listed as probable for Saturday's game against the Patriots, the Tampa Tribune reports. Bryant converted a pair of field goals last week.
Our View
The Bucs are keeping kicker Todd France on the roster just in case. However, it appears that the Bucs were just playing it safe by giving Bryant a day to rest his injury. In other words, we expect him to handle the kicking duties on Saturday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 10:52 AM ET
Falcons: Lake sidelined
The News
Falcons defensive tackle Antwan Lake is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Bears with a dislocated shoulder. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Lake suffered the injury while sacking Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks on Monday night.
Our View
Lake is a backup, but the Falcons like to rotate their defensive linemen, which led to Antwan playing roughly half the snaps on Monday night. Look for the Falcons to sign a defensive lineman if Lake can't play.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 10:45 AM ET
Patriots: Tucker signed
The News
The Patriots signed offensive lineman Ross Tucker on Tuesday, according to the Boston Globe. Tucker, a former Bill, can play guard and center and has started 24 games since 2001.
Our View
Tucker provides depth along a banged-up offensive line. It's never a good sign, however, when you're signing players who were cut earlier this season by the abysmal Bills, who have one of the league's worst offensive lines.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 14, 2005 10:22 AM ET
Bills: Moulds back at practice
The News
Eric Moulds returned to the practice field on Tuesday and will be ready to play on Saturday against the Broncos, reports the Buffalo News. Moulds was suspended for last week's game for unknown issues related to his being benched and/or choosing to sit out much of the second half of a week 13 loss to the Dolphins. "Coach [Mike Mularkey] and I talked about it. We addressed the situation and as far as I'm concerned right now it's a new start and it's a dead issue," Moulds said of the suspension.
Our View
Moulds is still the Bills' leading receiver with 54 catches, but he has been usurped by Lee Evans as the primary fantasy threat. J.P. Losman appears to favor Evans over Moulds, which means the veteran is an iffy fantasy proposition this weekend, even though the Broncos sport one of the NFL's most lenient pass defense.

Texans: Davis will be a game-time decision
The News
Texans running back Domanick Davis missed Thursday's practice with his sore knee and will be a game-time decision on Sunday, reports the Houston Chronicle. He was also unable to practice on Wednesday afternoon and is listed as questionable on the team's injury report.
Our View
Davis always misses a day or two of practice, but he's been listed as probable for the last three weeks. We're a bit concerned that he's now questionable and being called a game-time decision. If he returns to practice on Friday, our worries will dissipate a bit. If not, you'll have to check back Sunday for the final verdict on his availability.

December 15, 2005 10:51 PM ET
Ravens: Lewis can't practice
The News
The Ravens held practice on Thursday without running back Jamal Lewis, who was sidelined with an injured thumb, the team reported. Lewis is officially classified as questionable for Monday night's tilt with the Packers.
Our View
Lewis has been a total bust this season and is too unreliable to depend on, especially during the fantasy playoffs. If he is inactive for a second straight week, Chester Taylor will receive most of the carries against the Pack.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 10:44 PM ET
Packers: Franks continues to rest
The News
Packers tight end Bubba Franks missed his second straight day of practice on Thursday because of his injured neck and back, according to the team's website. He missed last week's game because of the injuries and is questionable for Monday night's game against the Ravens.
Our View
Franks will get an extra day to rest up because the game is on Monday night, but fantasy owners should be going another direction this week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 10:36 PM ET
Ravens: Heap practices
The News
Ravens tight end Todd Heap was able to practice on Thursday despite the toe injury that has him listed as probable on the injury report, the team announced.
Our View
Heap isn't in any danger of missing this week's game with his current injury, so don't worry about inserting him into your lineup despite the fact he plays on Monday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 10:21 PM ET
Chiefs: Dunn added to the injury report
The News
The Chiefs added tight end Jason Dunn to their injury report as probable after he missed the team portion of Thursday's practice with a an injured knee, according to the team's website.
Our View
Dunn is primarily a blocking tight end, but his efforts allow Tony Gonzalez to go out and run pass patterns, so we're hoping he can suit up on Saturday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 10:12 PM ET
Panthers: Foster keeps on working
The News
Panthers running back DeShaun Foster was able to practice on Thursday and remains probable for Sunday's game against the Saints with a bruised shoulder, according to the team's website.
Our View
Foster is going to be the team's workhorse on Sunday, and with Stephen Davis questionable with his creaky knee, he may not have to lose carries at the goal line.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 10:02 PM ET
Colts: Wayne misses practice
The News
Colts wideout Reggie Wayne left practice early on Thursday with back spasms, according the team's website. "Reggie got a little back spasm and sat out the last drill of practice, but we think he's going to be OK," head coach Tony Dungy said. "We'll see [Friday]."
Our View
We'll have a much better idea of Wayne's status for Sunday after Friday's practice, so be sure to check back tomorrow. If he can't go, Brandon Stokley would move into the starting lineup.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 9:51 PM ET
Bengals: Henry arrested on drug charges
The News
Bengals rookie receiver Chris Henry has been arrested on traffic and marijuana charges, according to NFL.com. He was stopped by police at about 2 a.m Thursday morning after driving a vehicle with expired tags, an expired license and speeding, according to police reports. "The club is aware of the reports regarding Chris Henry," the Bengals said in a prepared statement. "In such cases, the team considers it inappropriate to comment further while the matter is still being adjudicated."
Our View
Henry practiced later Thursday morning and the team said they won't take action until the case goes through the legal system, so this incident shouldn't impact his fantasy value for the remainder of 2005. If you were wondering why a guy with first-round talent like Henry fell all the way to the third round, character issues like this were the reason.

Dolphins: Welker hurts his oblique
The News

Jaguars: Mathis practices again
The News
Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis practiced for a second straight day despite his injured finger, according to the team's website.
Our View
Mathis is probable and played through the injury last week, so his IDP owners should keep him in the lineup.

Bills: Losman feeling better
The News
Bills quarterback J.P. Losman practiced on Thursday for the first time this week, the team announced. He remains listed as questionable on the team's injury report with an injured shoulder and leg.
Our View
Losman may be able to serve as the Bills' No. 2 quarterback behind Kelly Holcomb this Saturday, but he has absolutely no fantasy value.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 9:22 PM ET
Buccaneers: Bryant takes the day off
The News
Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant did not kick on Thursday, but that was by design, according to the team's website. He typically rests on Thursday after kicking heavily on Wednesday. He remains listed as probable with a hamstring injury. "We gave him today off," said head coach Jon Gruden. "We expect him to be able to kick but we'll reserve judgment until game day. He'll go out early again and kick some balls, and if he's ready to go, he'll go."
Our View
Bryant kicked last week despite the injury and the team expects him to do so again this week. If he doesn't do so, Todd France will be the team's kicker.

49ers: Barlow delusional
The News
Kevan Barlow is tired of hearing about the possibility of the 49ers drafting Reggie Bush and he's not afraid to let his feelings be known. "Right now, I'm not worried about Reggie at all. I'm just worried about getting myself ready, because I feel like I'm an elite guy in this league as well," Barlow told the Associated Press, apparently serious. "I've never really seen him play. I've seen highlights. I know he's got great highlights." Undeterred by the fact he is averaging only 3.3 yards-per-carry this season and his paltry total of 10 touchdowns since taking over the starting job prior to last season, Barlow doesn't think the 49ers should go a different direction. "I feel like this is my running back show. This is my offensive line, and that's how I look at it. I feel like I'm one good running back myself," he said.
Our View
It looks the 49ers may end up with the second pick in April's draft and it is very likely they'll take Bush if they keep the pick and the Texans pass on him. Barlow probably isn't going anywhere because he's signed through 2008 to a $20 million contract, but he should get ready to stand on the sidelines a lot more than he has this season if the Heisman winner ends up in San Fran.

Patriots: Brady gets some jogging in
The News
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady jogged on the field at the start of practice Thursday, but the All-Pro remains questionable for Saturday afternoon's game against the Buccaneers with a left shin injury, according to the Associated Press.
Our View
The report didn't specifically note that Brady was unable to practice, but the Patriots keep most of their practice off limits to the media, so there would be no way of knowing how much he was able to do anyway. However, we do know that he played through the injury last week and the Pats can clinch the division with a win, so we expect him to play.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 8:42 PM ET
Falcons: Vick taken off the injury report
The News
Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was taken off the injury report after completing practice on Thursday, according to the Associated Press. He was listed as probable on Wednesday because of the bruised ribs he suffered in Monday's win over the Saints.
Our View
Vick is going to keep his word about playing this week against the Bears, but we don't like his chances of having a big game against them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 8:32 PM ET
Lions: Bryson back at work
The News
Lions running back Shawn Bryson returned to the practice field on Thursday after an injured foot prevented him from attending Wednesday's session, the team reported. He is listed as probable on the team's injury report because of the ailment.
Our View
Bryson and Artose Pinner will split carries in Sunday's game against the Bengals because Kevin Jones is suffering from an injured elbow and won't play.

Bengals: The return of Rudi
The News
Rudi Johnson rejoined his Bengals teammates at practice on Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's session to rest his sore knee, according to the team's website. He is listed as probable on the team's injury report.
Our View
Johnson usually takes Wednesday s off only to return Thursday and play on Sunday. He'll play against the Lions this week and should be in your lineup.

December 15, 2005 8:21 PM ET
Lions: Wayne probable for Sunday
The News
Lions linebacker Nate Wayne has been placed on the injury report with an injured knee, the team announced on Thursday.
Our View
Wayne is considered probable for Sunday and likely will be in the lineup as the Lions try to contain Rudi Johnson.

Chiefs: Warfield's back acts up
The News
Chiefs cornerback Eric Warfield missed practice on Thursday with back spasms and was added to the injury report as probable, according to the team's website.
Our View
Warfield has had back problem before this season, but head coach Dick Vermeil expects him to be able to play against the Giants on Saturday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 8:09 PM ET
Panthers: Davis now questionable
The News
The Panthers added running back Stephen Davis to their injury report on Thursday with a sore knee. He is classified as questionable.
Our View
Davis practiced on Thursday despite being put on the injury report, so it appears he'll be able to play. Check back with us Friday to see if he was able to practice then.

Titans: McNair returns to practice
The News
Titans quarterback Steve McNair kept his word and returned to practice on Thursday. "He is better. He practiced today and he is feeling better. I expect him to be ok for this weekend," head coach Jeff Fisher told the team's website after practice.
Our View
McNair failed to throw a touchdown against the Texans, so our expectations aren't very high against the Seahawks.

Browns: Both tight ends banged up
The News
The Browns may find themselves a little short in the tight end department this week. Starter Steve Heiden was limited during Wednesday's practice because of an ankle injury, though Browns coach Romeo Crennel expects him to play Sunday against the Raiders. Aaron Shea also missed portions of Wednesday's workout with a calf injury; he is listed as questionable for this weekend's action.
Our View
Charlie Frye has demonstrated a preference for throwing the ball downfield, though Heiden did snare a touchdown in last week's game. Heiden and Shea are the only tight ends currently on the Browns' active roster, so if one or both are unavailable they may be forced into more four-receiver sets.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 3:09 PM ET
Titans: Wade added
The News
The Titans claimed wide receiver Bobby Wade off of waivers to bolster their injury-ravaged receiving corps. "We were kind of looking for a practice squad receiver and then he popped on the wire," Titans GM Floyd Reese told the Tennessean. "Of course he is going to have more experience and knowledge than a practice squad guy. I think he got in the dog house because he fumbled some punts and [the Bears] brought in [Muhsin] Muhammad, so his role had kind of lessened. So we'll see if maybe a new situation or frest start makes a difference.
Our View
The former fifth-round pick started 14 games for the Bears last season but had fallen out of favor thanks to a rash of fumbles in the kicking game. The Titans have already placed Brandon Jones on injured reserve and are expected to put Roydell Williams on IR as well to clear room for Wade.

Colts: Defense to be without Simon and Mathis
The News
The Colts will put their perfect record on the line Sunday against the Chargers without two of their regular defensive linemen. Tackle Corey Simon and end Robert Mathis, who is fourth in the league with 11.5 sacks, are both expected to miss Sunday's tilt. The duo did not practice Wednesday, and Colts coach Tony Dungy told the Indianapolis Star they "probably will be held out unless they just miraculously recover and are 100 percent by Sunday."
Our View
Follow us as we lead you to the fantasy implications of the absence of Simon and Mathis. Obviously, the loss of run-stopper Simon and pass-rusher Mathis helps the value of Chargers like LaDainian Tomlinson, Drew Brees, and Antonio Gates. And if the Bolts put up points, it's going to force Indy to counter with more scoring from Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and the rest of the Indy regulars. Thus, good news abounds for fantasy folks here.

Raiders: Groin limiting Walter
The News
Rookie Andrew Walter hasn't figured into the quarterback carousel in Oakland much, due in part to a sports hernia groin injury that he's been dealing with since the preseason. "When I push off away from center and then whenever you snap your hips, try to throw the football, I can feel it,' he told the San Francisco Chronicle. "So it's pretty influential to the quarterback spot.'
Our View
Head coach Norv Turner said Walter could play if he needed to, but clearly that necessity doesn't exist. Turner has had enough difficulty juggling two quarterbacks, let alone three, so we'd just as well see the rookie sit the rest of the schedule out.

Vikings: Culpepper among four Vikings charged
The News
Daunte Culpepper, offensive lineman Bryant McKinnie, running back Moe Williams, and cornerback Fred Smoot were all charged with three misdemeanors – indecent conduct, disorderly conduct, and lewd or lascivious conduct – for their roles in the now infamous boat party on October 6, according to the Associated Press. Seventeen Vikings were reportedly identified as being involved in the shenanigans on the cruise, but only four have been charged. The AP reports that Federal charges related to reports that some women at the party were paid to come to Minnesota from outside the state were not brought because of insufficient evidence, according to U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger.
Our View
Vikings owner Zygi Wilf stated in October that the Vikings would "levy the appropriate fines, penalties and/or suspensions" when the investigation is complete. It is unclear whether any disciplinary action will be taken right away, or if the team will wait until the charges are resolved in a court of law. Both Culpepper and Williams are out for the season with injuries, leaving McKinnie as the most important of the charged players to fantasy owners. As the Vikings' best offensive lineman, any suspension to McKinnie this season would certainly impact the team's running game and its pass protection. Stay tuned for further details as they are released.

Chargers: Jammer works out
The News
Chargers cornerback Quentin Jammer is questionable for week 15 with a shoulder injury, but the four-year veteran did practice on Wednesday and expects to play on Sunday against the Colts, according to the North County Times.
Our View
The Bolts' 26th-ranked pass defense will need their best corner at full strength against Marvin Harrison and the Colts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lions: Three linebackers land on injury report
The News
The Lions may have to attempt to stop the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday without three of their starting linebackers. Boss Bailey is officially out with a sprained ankle, Earl Holmes is doubtful with a knee injury, and Donte Curry is questionable with a thigh injury. "It hurts," head coach Dick Jauron told the Detroit News regarding his ailing linebackers.
Our View
As if the vaunted Bengals needed any more help. However, this might come as little consolation for those of you who employ Carson Palmer and/or Chad Johnson and got bounced from the playoffs a week ago due to their poor performances.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 12:20 PM ET
Bears: Benson remains doubtful
The News
Running back Cedric Benson had targeted week 15 for his return from a sprained MCL in his right knee, but on Wednesday he attempted lateral movement for the first time in his recovery. "It's a little tough, opening to the left in particular," Benson told the Chicago Tribune. The rookie, who is doubtful on this week's injury report, sustained the injury on November 13 and was originally slated to miss four-to-six weeks.
Our View
With Thomas Jones running well and veteran Adrian Peterson backing him up, there's little reason for the Bears to rush Benson back into the fray.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 12:15 PM ET
Rams: Barron returns
The News
Rams offensive tackle Alex Barron practiced on Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery for ligament damage in his thumb, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He is expected to start on Sunday against the Eagles.
Our View
A healthy Barron would be helpful to running back Steven Jackson, who struggled in the two games the big rookie missed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 12:01 PM ET
Seahawks: Jackson to start
The News
Darrell Jackson is back. The Seahawks wide receiver took part in his first full practice on Wednesday and will start on Sunday against the Titans. However, he might not get as many snaps as he normally would. "We'll just have to see how his leg works, see how his stamina is and those types of things," head coach Mike Holmgren told the Seattle Times. Jackson had been sidelined for more than two months after tearing the meniscus in his right knee.
Our View
Jackson will start along with Bobby Engram, leaving Joe Jurevicius as the odd man out. Big Joe will still get plenty of action as the team's No. 3 receiver and will spell Jackson if Darrell needs a blow on Sunday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 11:55 AM ET
49ers: Beasley demoted
The News
The 49ers promoted Chris Hetherington to the role of starting fullback for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Fred Beasley, the man Hetherington will replace, is not happy about being demoted and blames running backs coach Bishop Harris. "If Bish has anything to do with it, I don't expect to see the field," Beasley told the San Jose Mercury News. Beasley has been nursing a neck stinger in recent weeks.
Our View
When healthy, Beasley is one of the best fullbacks in the game. He's also among the moodiest, as he was previously feuding with running back Kevan Barlow.
December 15, 2005 11:47 AM ET
Buccaneers: Bryant limited in practice
The News
Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant did not handle the kickoffs during practice on Wednesday, according to the Tampa Tribune. Backup kicker Todd France handled that end of the kicking duties. Bryant is listed as probable on the injury report with a hamstring injury.
Our View
The only thing that should matter to fantasy owners is that Bryant was able to practice his field goal kicks. He handled all the kicking duties in week 14 and will most likely do so again this week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 11:46 AM ET
Lions: Jones won't play
The News
Kevin Jones, officially listed as doubtful with an elbow injury, won't play on Sunday, according to the Detroit News. The newspaper indicated that Artose Pinner and Shawn Bryson would split carries against the Bengals.
Our View
This is actually a blessing for those of you who have repeatedly started Jones only to see him leave early with another injury. At least now you know not to play him at all. Pinner has gotten the bulk of the work each of the last two weeks after Jones left with injury, and is the more likely back to get looks at the goal line. Of course, there's a very good chance the Lions won't even get a sniff of the goal line in any given week. Go Lions!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 11:43 AM ET
Panthers: Gaines sits out
The News
Panthers tight end Michael Gaines did not practice on Wednesday and is listed as questionable on the injury report with an ankle injury. The same injury caused him to miss week 13.
Our View
Gaines has been playing a small role in the passing game this season, but not enough to warrant fantasy consideration. Kris Mangum will start at tight end regardless of Gaines' injury status.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 11:33 AM ET
Falcons: Vick guarantees he'll play
The News
Falcons quarterback Michael Vick did minimal work at practice on Wednesday. However, he vowed to play on Sunday against the Bears despite the bruised ribs he suffered in week 14. "I'll be out there," Vick told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I guarantee it." Vick is expected to take part in most of Thursday's practice.
Our View
Vick is a risky play this week due to his tender ribs and his matchup with the hard hitting Bears. Matt Schaub would start if Vick doesn't deliver on his guarantee.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 11:24 AM ET
Bears: Berrian to return punts
The News
With the release of Bobby Wade earlier this week, wide receiver Bernard Berrian is the leading candidate to return punts for the Bears, the Chicago Tribune reports. Berrian said that his surgically repaired right thumb is no longer an issue in catching the football.
Our View
Berrian should get the nod over rookie defensive back Rashied Davis, veteran wideout Eddie Berlin, and starting corner Nathan Vasher.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 11:23 AM ET
Saints: Howard out for the year
The News
Saints head coach Jim Haslett announced Wednesday that defensive end Darren Howard will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Although Haslett disputed reports that Howard had become a distraction, the team's franchise player made it clear that he has played his final game with the Saints. "The bottom line is this situation has nothing to do with Darren Howard's knee," Howard told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "This is all about Darren Howard and the New Orleans Saints not growing with each other. That's the bottom line."
Our View
Howard also said he would quit playing football if the Saints prevented him from testing the free agency market during the offseason. Last year, the team blocked him from doing so by giving him the franchise tag. Look for rookie Jimmy Verdon to take extra reps with Howard out of the lineup.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 11:07 AM ET
Chargers: Tomlinson practices
The News
Despite the rib/chest injury that has landed him on the injury report for a second straight week, Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson did participate in practice on Wednesday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. L.T. is officially questionable on the week 15 injury report.
Our View
The Chargers don't often use the probable tag nor do they push their injured players to practice. L.T.'s participation on Wednesday is a very positive sign that this malady is a non-issue.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 15, 2005 10:56 AM ET
Patriots: Graham, Watson both questionable
The News
Daniel Graham (shoulder) and Ben Watson (head) both showed up on the Patriots injury report as questionable on Wednesday. According to the Boston Globe, both practiced.
Our View
Graham has played in just one of the last five games and has become a fantasy non-factor. According to various reports, Watson had the wind knocked out of him last week against the Bills, but judging by the injury report he perhaps suffered some sort of mild concussion as well. Watson has averaged three receptions per game since week eight and could find some openings against the Bucs' cover-2 defense, which can typically be exploited by tight ends. Assuming he plays, of course. Check on Watson's status before Sunday if you plan on inserting him into your lineup this week.

Redskins: Moss rests, not on injury report
The News
Redskins receiver Santana Moss did not practice on Wednesday. The Washington Post noted that Moss has routinely been resting on Wednesdays in order to keep the wear and tear off his nagging hamstring injury.
Our View
If fantasy owners saw that Moss missed practice on Wednesday, we wanted to assure them that he's generally fine. The hamstring ailment hasn't stopped him from playing this season.

Giants: Taylor ruled out
The News
Giants wide receiver Jamaar Taylor is listed as out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs due to a knee injury, the team's official web site reported.
Our View
No details were given about Taylor's injury, and none of the local sites seem to be concerned with covering that bit of news. Oh well, Taylor is not a fantasy factor.

Lions: Jones upgraded after missing practice
The News
Running back Kevin Jones missed his third straight day of practice on Friday with a hyperextended elbow, but that didn't stop the Lions from upgrading him to questionable on their official injury report, according to the team's website.
Our View
Dick Jauron is calling Jones a game-time decision, but fantasy owners should be very hesitant to use an injury-prone back who missed an entire week of practice with a nasty elbow injury.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 10:09 PM ET
Panthers: Team releases the Gardner
The News
The Panthers waived wideout Rod Gardner and promoted fullback Casey Cramer from their practice squad on Friday.
Our View
Gardner lost the battle with Keary Colbert to start across from Steve Smith and had only nine catches for 84 yards and a touchdown this season.

December 16, 2005 10:00 PM ET
49ers: Barlow ruled out
The News
The 49ers officially scratched halfback Kevan Barlow from Sunday's game against the Jaguars because of his injured knee, according to ESPN's John Clayton.
Our View
Frank Gore will get a chance to show his stuff as the 49ers' primary back against the Jaguars. Maurice Hicks will serve as his back.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 9:53 PM ET
Packers: Franks misses a week of practice
The News
Tight end Bubba Franks hasn't participated in any of the Packers' practices this week because of his injured back and neck, according to the team's website. The injuries forced Franks to be absent from last week's win over the Lions and have him questionable for Monday night's game against the Ravens.
Our View
Fantasy owners haven't gotten much from Franks this season, but he would have been a good candidate to score Monday night if he was closer to full strength. If you have to finalize your lineup before Monday, don't take a chance on Bubba.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 9:47 PM ET
Buccaneers: Bryant should be ready to go
The News
Buccaneers kicker Mat Bryant should do most of the kicking during Saturday's game against the Patriots despite his injured hamstring, according to ESPN's John Clayton. Bryant is listed as probable on the team's latest injury report.
Our View
We expect Bryant to be fine on Saturday, but you should check back before game time to make sure you're not starting a kicker who isn't playing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 9:34 PM ET
Panthers: Foster set to go
The News
DeShaun Foster remains listed as probable on the Panthers' injury report with a bruised shoulder, but he was able to practice on Friday and will play this week against the Saints, according to ESPN.com.
Our View
Stephen Davis has averaged 140 rushing yards in his last three games against the Saints, but Foster is the Panthers' workhorse back now and should approach those numbers on Sunday.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 9:32 PM ET
Titans: Brown's elbow not an issue
The News
Titans running back Chris Brown practiced on Friday afternoon and ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that he is expected to start Sunday's game against the Seahawks. He remains listed as questionable on the team's injury report.
Our View
Travis Henry is battling an ankle injury that may keep him out of Sunday's game. If he can't go, Brown will receive all the carries, but he will be facing a squad that has allowed the fewest rushing touchdowns this season.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 9:29 PM ET
Panthers: Davis doubtful for Sunday
The News
The Panthers downgraded running back Stephen Davis to doubt on Friday because of his lingering knee injury.
Our View
It is highly unlikely Davis will even suit up this Sunday, so make sure you get him out of your lineup quickly.

Chargers: Tomlinson practices once again
The News
Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson will start at halfback Sunday against the Colts after completing his third day of practice on Friday, according to ESPN's John Clayton. He is listed as questionable on the team's injury report with sore ribs.
Our View
Tomlinson should be in your lineup anytime he is healthy enough to play.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 9:10 PM ET
Steelers: Bus ready to roll
The News
Steelers running back Jerome Bettis practiced for a second straight day on Friday and remains probable for Sunday's game against the Vikings with a sore quad, according to the team's website.
Our View
Bettis won't need his snow tires indoors against the Vikings. Willie Parker will get the start for the Steelers, but everyone knows who comes into the game when it is a short-yardage situation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 8:39 PM ET
Titans: McNair gets a full day of work in
The News
Titans quarterback Steve McNair got his usual amount of reps during Friday's practice despite a sore ankle and will be able to start Sunday, according to ESPN's John Clayton.
Our View
McNair is chronically listed as questionable on the team's injury report, but he will be able to go this week. However, we don't recommend expecting much from him against the Seahawks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 8:24 PM ET
Ravens: Lewis now probable
The News
Ravens running back Jamal Lewis was upgraded to probable after practice on Friday. He is suffering from an injured thumb that kept him out of last week's loss to the Broncos.
Our View
Lewis should be in uniform Monday night against the Packers, but he is a very risky fantasy option against a very good run defense and with Chester Taylor poised to get a lot of carries as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 8:07 PM ET
Colts: Wayne back at practice
The News
Reggie Wayne returned to practice on Friday afternoon, reports ESPN's John Clayton. The Colts receiver left Thursday's practice with back spasms but is expected to play Sunday.
Our View
Wayne will start Sunday's game, but there remains a possibility that he will not complete it if the Colts are ahead by a comfortable margin. Start him if he is clearly your best option, but don't be shocked to see him off the field late in the game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 7:57 PM ET
Dolphins: Welker practices
The News
The Dolphins got wide receiver Wes Welker back at practice Friday afternoon after he missed Thursday's session with a strained oblique, according to the team's website.
Our View
Welker isn't going to help anyone win a fantasy game, but his return prowess helps improve the Dolphins' field position.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 7:56 PM ET
Texans: Davis unlikely to play
The News
Texans running back Domanick Davis hasn't been able to practice all week because of his sore knee and will likely miss Sunday's game against the Cardinals, according to ESPN's John Clayton.
Our View
Davis has played through the knee injury in the last four games, but it is apparently getting worse instead of improving. Jonathan Wells will get the start against the Cardinals and can be a serviceable option for those put in a pickle by Dom's injury situation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 7:38 PM ET
49ers: No Battle on Sunday
The News
The 49ers have ruled wideout Arnaz Battle out of Sunday's game against the Jaguars, according to ESPN's John Clayton. Battle is suffering from an injured knee.

Don't use Battle in your starting lineup this Sunday; not that you were going to anyway.

Titans: Things not looking good for Henry
The News
Titans running back Travis Henry was only able to run on the sides during Friday's practice and he will be a game-time decision on Sunday, reports ESPN.com.
Our View
It doesn't look good for Henry, but we didn't have high expectations for him against the Seahawks, anyway. Chris Brown will be the team's featured runner again this week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 4:03 PM ET
Redskins: Arrington, Rogers, Bowen all downgraded
The News
The Redskins downgraded linebacker LaVar Arrington (thigh), cornerback Carlos Rogers (biceps), and safety Matt Bowen (knee) from probable to questionable on Friday, the team's official web site reported. All three missed practice.
Our View
It's never a good sign when players are downgraded prior to the weekend, and the Redskins' defense will have a number of game-time decisions for Sunday's clash with the Cowboys.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 12:56 PM ET
Packers: Davenport to have screw removed
The News
Najeh Davenport's rehab is progressing, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports he is expected to have the screw, which was surgically inserted in his left ankle in October, removed next week. Davenport, who will be an unrestricted free agent after the season, told the Journal-Sentinel, "I'd love to be in Green Bay [next season] but if I don't, I've got to move on with my life."
Our View
Davenport is expected to start running by late March. There is no doubt he has the talent to be a feature back in the NFL, however his injury history will likely mean he'll have to prove himself with an incentive-laden deal for some team, if not the Packers, next season.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chargers: Jammer taken off injury report
The News
After practicing for the second straight day, Chargers cornerback Quentin Jammer was taken off the injury report, the team's official website reports. He was previously questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts due to a shoulder injury.
Our View
Jammer better be healthy; he draws Marvin Harrison and his run of 11 touchdowns in the last 10 games.

Rams: Holt's knee holding up
The News
Rams wide receiver Torry Holt has been playing for several weeks with a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and he will continue to do so despite the fact that his team is out of the playoff hunt. "I wouldn't say it's gone away, but I don't have any discomfort, no soreness or anything like that," Holt told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Thursday. "I've just kind of forgotten about it." Holt has 37 receptions for 429 yards in his last four games.
Our View
Holt will have his knee examined after the season to determine whether he needs surgery. He's been unbelievable this year considering that he is not only playing on a bum knee but with a third-string rookie quarterback.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 11:59 AM ET
Texans: Davis will be a game-time decision
The News
Running back Domanick Davis, who has played through a knee injury for the past month after missing two games with that ailment earlier this season, will be a game time decision this week. Davis missed practice both Wednesday and Thursday because of continued swelling in his knee, and Texans coach Dom Capers indicated he won't make a decision on Davis' status until just prior to game time. He is officially listed as questionable; the past month, he's been listed as probable despite missing Wednesday's practice, and he's played each of the last four Sundays.
Our View
While Davis has been battling this injury for a couple months and for the most part played through it, the last two times he was a "game time decision," he didn't play. If you're banking on Dom against the Cardinals this week, make sure you have Jonathan Wells on standby just in case; he's started and scored in each of the two games Davis has missed.

Cardinals: Dockett upgraded
The News
Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett was upgraded from doubtful to questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans, according to the Arizona Republic. He has been nursing a sore left ankle.
Our View
It's hard to say whether or not Dockett will play at this point, so IDP owners should check back over the weekend.

49ers: Barlow downgraded
The News
49ers running back Kevan Barlow did not practice on Thursday, according to the team's official website. He was downgraded to doubtful on the injury report due to a left knee injury.

Jets: Martin's surgery a success
The News
The full extent of Curtis Martin's knee injury was revealed on Thursday. According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the running back had bone chips removed from his knee, and his arthroscopic procedure also revealed two severe bone bruises and cartilage damage, but no structural or ligament damage. "I'm going to have my best offseason this year," Martin told the Star-Ledger. "It feels like unfinished business. I had to sacrifice some things to go and get this surgery and, more importantly, had to sacrifice being away from the team. I just can't wait to get back." Coach Herm Edwards also said Martin "will be a Jet as long as he wants to be a Jet."
Our View
There has been plenty of speculation that the team will draft a runner early in the first round of next year's NFL draft, which would appear to leave Martin, who is scheduled to count $8.1 million against next year's salary cap, in a bit of a pickle. The veteran will almost certainly have to rework his contract and will probably have to agree to come back in a backup role or splitting time with a rookie in the backfield next year. This will be an interesting story to follow in the offseason.

Seahawks: Alexander contract talks stalled
The News
Shaun Alexander told reporters back in October that he believed he was on the verge of re-signing with the Seahawks. He changed his tune on Thursday. "Honestly, I believe they're going to wait until the end of the year," Alexander told the Seattle Times. "It is what it is. I've let my agent and the Seahawks people talk. I don't think there are any conversations going on right now." Alexander will be a free agent at the end of the season.
Our View
The big question is whether the Seahawks have the salary cap space to re-sign Alexander after re-signing quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and offensive lineman Walter Jones during the offseason. Alexander agreed to a one-year deal before the season that includes a clause that will prevent the team from assigning him the franchise tag. In other words, he'll be free to sign with any team if the Seahawks fail to re-sign him before the free agency period begins.

The News
Brett Favre has never gone three straight games without throwing a touchdown pass, but he'll have to get at least one on Monday night to keep that streak alive. He's only gone two straight games without a touchdown pass twice – once in 1993 and once in 1994. "I don't think none of us would like Brett to go without a touchdown pass," wide receiver Donald Driver told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "But I wouldn't want to put that on my shoulders and say that I'm going to get one. I can't promise that one."
Our View
What is that - like a triple negative, Donald? This is not exactly what you want to hear from a guy you are probably depending on as one of your starting fantasy receivers. Come on, Double D – where's your confidence?! With an attitude like that, it's no wonder you have just two touchdowns in your last seven games. Driver will likely be blanketed by shutdown corner Chris McAlister on Monday night, and the Ravens have allowed just two touchdowns to receivers who don't play for the Bengals (seven total) this season. Driver will have his work cut out for him against ehe Ravens, but at least he's set the bar for himself low. We don't think none of fantasy owners should count on much from Driver on Monday.

Patriots: Brady will play on Saturday
The News
Tom Brady practiced on Thursday and will play on Saturday against the Bucs, reports the Boston Globe. He is officially listed as questionable with a shoulder injury he suffered back in 2002 and a shin injury suffered last week.
Our View
There you have it. Feel free to start Brady this weekend, although be advised that the Bucs sport the league's fourth-best pass defense.

49ers: Young ready to play
The News
49ers defensive end Bryant Young practiced on Thursday for the first time since tearing the MCL in his right knee back in week 11. "We've got three games left and there's still a lot out there to be done," Young told the San Jose Mercury News. "It's probably the easiest route to take, to just bow out and say I'm not going to come back. But this is an injury I felt I could come back from, so I'm going to be there as best I can for my teammates." Young had 29 tackles and eight sacks in 10 games earlier this season.
Our View
The 33 year-old veteran still has gas left in the tank. IDP owners should scan the waiver wire to see if he's available for the remainder of the season.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 11:16 AM ET
Chargers: L.T. practices again
The News
Running back LaDainian Tomlinson participated in team drills on Thursday for a second consecutive day, the Chargers' official website reports. Tomlinson is officially questionable with the ribs/chest injury that he sustained two weeks back.
Our View
There is nothing to worry about here. Tomlinson played through the injury last week and will not be limited by it on Sunday against the Colts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 11:15 AM ET
Buccaneers: McFarland unlikely to play
The News
Buccaneers defensive tackle Anthony McFarland did not practice on Thursday due to the strained hamstring that has sidelined him all week. He remains listed as doubtful on the injury report for Saturday's game against the Patriots.
Our View
McFarland is not expected to play this week, so his IDP owners should make other arrangements.

Jets: Blaylock out, Houston and Askew to split carries
The News
Derrick Blaylock, who is officially listed as questionable with a foot injury, is not expected to play on Sunday against the Dolphins, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Blaylock broke his foot in week five and is still getting himself in shape. "The guy has to get in the shape of playing," coach Herm Edwards told the Star-Ledger. "He's just starting to practice." The Star-Ledger also reports that rookie Cedric Houston and third-year man B.J. Askew will likely split time in the backfield.
Our View
The big news here is that Houston, who had 28 carries compared to Askew's nine last week, may not be the workhorse again this week. Askew likely opened some eyes last week by gaining 54 yards in limited action (six yards per carry), while Houston was plugging away with just a 2.6 yard per carry average. We'd still advise starting Houston over Askew, as he figures to get the goal line looks on Sunday.

Panthers: Rucker on the mend
The News
Panthers defensive end Mike Rucker practiced on Thursday for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury back in week 13. He remains listed as questionable on the injury report for Sunday's game against the Saints.
Our View
Barring a setback, Rucker should be in the starting lineup on Sunday.

Chargers: Bolts stuffing the run
The News
For the second straight season, the Chargers are making life difficult for opposing rushing attacks. After ranking third overall against the run last year, San Diego currently tops the NFL with a weekly allowance of just 79 rushing yards per game. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, opponents are collecting 33 fewer rushing yards against the Chargers than they are for the season.
Our View
With Edgerrin James on tap in Indy this week, you can bet the Bolts will take a similar approach and focus on keeping Edge in check. That usually means big things for opposing aerial attacks; the Chargers rank 27th against the pass.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 16, 2005 11:01 AM ET
Falcons: Vick practices
The News
Falcons quarterback Michael Vick took part in a full practice session on Thursday. He missed practice earlier this week due to the bruised ribs he suffered in week 14.
Our View
As we reported yesterday, Vick has been removed from the injury report. Barring a dramatic turn of events, he will start on Sunday against the Bears.

Bills: Snow, cold expected Saturday night
The News
Early forecasts are calling for temperatures of 23 degrees and a 50 percent chance of snow in Buffalo for the Bills – Broncos game on Saturday night.
Our View
Unfortunately for the Bills, snowy conditions probably favor the visitors. The Broncos feature the NFL's second-best rushing offense, while the Bills feature the second-worst run defense, ceding over 141 yards per game (including 159 to the Patriots in the snow last week). The Bills' best chance at moving the ball against the Broncos (who feature the NFL's second-best run defense and the 29th-ranked pass defense) is through the air, which will be extremely difficult in the cold, windy, snowy conditions. Keep the weather in mind when trying to decide whether to start Willis McGahee, Lee Evans, and Eric Moulds this week.

Raiders: Tui not pleased
The News
Veteran backup Marques Tuiasosopo did not take kindly to his sudden demotion after just one start. "I'm really disappointed," he told the Oakland Tribune. "I'm not happy about it at all. Head coach makes the decision, there's not much you can do about it. We talked, but ... I deserved to play. I've been around here long enough."
Our View
Tui was under the impression, as were the rest of us, that Norv Turner had handed him the reins for the remainder of the season. Needless to say, it won't surprise us to see the two parties find an agreeable way to get Tui out of Oakland next season. He will be in the final year of his contract.

Broncos: Fullback leads team in red zone receiving
The News
It doesn't just seem like Broncos fullback Kyle Johnson is everywhere in the red zone. It's a fact. Inside the 20-yard line, quarterback Jake Plummer has targeted the blocking back more than anyone else on the team (nine pass attempts), and Johnson leads the team in red zone receiving scores (five). Only leading receiver Rod Smith has caught as total touchdowns overall or as many passes inside the 20.
Our View
If the fact that Johnson and offensive tackle Dwayne Carswell have combined for seven of the team's 12 red zone receiving scores isn't enough to compel you not to rely on this passing game, we don't know what will.

Vikings: Team to wait on disciplining love boaters
The News
According to published reports, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf will not hesitate to discipline the four players charged with crimes related to an October boat party this season – possibly even during the playoffs, should the Vikings make it to the postseason. However, any fines or suspensions are unlikely to occur until sometime after January 5, which is the first court date scheduled for Daunte Culpepper, Moe Williams, Bryant McKinnie, and Fred Smoot, the four players against whom charges have been brought. "Just because somebody's charged doesn't mean they're convicted of anything, so we just have to let it all pan out," Wilf told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Our View
With Culpepper and Williams on injured reserve and Smoot on the defensive side of the ball, the only real fantasy impact relates to McKinnie, the Vikings best offensive lineman. While it appears Wilf means business, it is also fairly clear that no action will be taken until after the regular season. Fantasy owners need not worry about Brad Johnson or Michael Bennett losing their most valuable lineman the rest of this season, although this situation is clearly a distraction for the Vikings as they take on the Steelers this weekend.

Giants: Starting tackles remain out
The News
Giants offensive tackles Luke Petitgout (back) and Kareem McKenzie (hamstring) missed a third straight day of practice on Thursday and remain questionable for Saturday's game against the Chiefs. Petitgout did do some jogging, and McKenzie rode a stationary bike, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.
Our View
Both tackles were injured during last week's win over the Eagles, and the Giants were able to fill the holes without too much trouble. Head coach Tom Coughlin still hopes to have both linemen available on Saturday, but fantasy owners might want to give a slight downgrade to their Giants due to their potentially patchwork line.

Panthers: Davis placed on injured reserve
The News
The Panthers placed running back Stephen Davis on injured reserve on Saturday because of recurring knee problems. Davis, who underwent microfracture surgery on his knee last year, has endured more problems with the knee as the season went on. It became inflamed this week and it did not respond to treatment, prompting the decision to end his season.
Our View
Davis is 31 and the speculation is that this latest setback might lead him to call it a career. We would be surprised if he does not retire. The Panthers owe him a roster bonus of more than $1 million in March, so expect him to be released before then if he hesitates to hang 'em up. DeShaun Foster will remain the Panthers starting running back (provided he stays healthy) for the final three weeks of the regular season, and Nick Goings moves into the backup role.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 17, 2005 4:29 PM ET
Giants: Petitgout active, McKenzie out
The News
The Giants came into their Saturday contest with the Chiefs with both of their starting tackles, Luke Petitgout and Kareem McKenzie, questionable on the injury report. Petitgout (back) is active and starting, but McKenzie (hamstring) has been ruled out.
Our View
The Giants passing game shouldn't miss McKenzie much against the 30th-ranked pass defense, but the Chiefs have been stout against the run all season. We'll keep an eye on whether Tiki Barber has trouble finding room to run.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 17, 2005 4:24 PM ET
Giants: Pierce, Emmons out
The News
The Giants will be without two of their starting linebackers on Saturday against the Chiefs. Both middle linebacker Antonio Pierce (ankle) and weak-side linebacker Carlos Emmons are inactive.
Our View
Chase Blackburn and Nick Griesen will start for the Giants. The absence of two starters on the second level doesn't bode well for their efforts in stopping rushing machine Larry Johnson.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 17, 2005 1:50 PM ET
Reggie Bush declares
The News
ESPN is reporting that USC running back Reggie Bush has declared his intentions to enter the NFL Draft in April.
Our View
Bush's fantasy value will obviously be heavily influenced by where he ends up, but you can bet he'll attract a ton of attention in fantasy drafts next season.

December 17, 2005 12:47 PM ET
Patriots: Conditions dry at Gillette
The News
The forecast in Foxboro calls for cold but dry conditions on Saturday for the Patriots-Buccaneers game. According to Weather.com, there will be a high of 43 degrees, winds at 10-15 miles per hour, and a 20 percent chance of precipitation.
Our View
Fantasy owners with weapons in the Pats and Bucs passing games should not let the weather conditions in New England prevent them from using their commodities.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 17, 2005 12:36 PM ET
Buccaneers: Bryant to kick
The News
Kicker Matt Bryant (probable, hamstring) is active for the Bucs in New England on Saturday, while backup Todd France is not.
Our View
The conditions in the Northeast could be worse, but you have to have better options than Bryant this week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 17, 2005 12:29 PM ET
Patriots: Dillon active
The News
As expected, Corey Dillon is active for week 15 against the Bucs. He was questionable with a calf injury that hasn't been a problem for him in the last two weeks (two touchdowns, one 100-yard game).
Our View
Unless you're stacked at running back, Dillon should be in your lineup on Saturday. His triple-digit effort last week demonstrated that he's feeling pretty good.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 17, 2005 12:24 PM ET
Patriots: Brady starting
The News
Quarterback Tom Brady, who was questionable all week with a shin injury sustained last week, is active for Saturday's game against the Bucs and will make his 84th consecutive start for the Patriots.
Our View
Brady threw two touchdowns and ran for another while playing through this injury a week ago, so feel free to use him as you normally would.

Patriots: Watson out
The News
Tight end Ben Watson is inactive for Saturday's game against the Bucs. He was questionable with a head injury.
Our View
With Watson out, Daniel Graham would in theory inherit most of the tight end looks, but he's been banged up for weeks as well. Look elsewhere.

Bears: Muhammed injures leg
The News
Muhsin Muhammad left the game during the third quarter than again in the fourth Sunday night with what appeared to be leg injury.
Our View
The injury didn't look serious. After doing nothing in the first half, Muhammad played much better once Rex Grossman took over for rookie Kyle Orton in the second half. We should know about the severity of his injury during the week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 18, 2005 10:32 PM ET
Bears: Grossman starts second half
The News
Rex Grossman, who missed most of the season after breaking his ankle in the preseason, started the second half of Sunday night's game against the Falcons. It was a coach's decision.
Our View
Grossman came out and promptly completed his first pass for 22 yards. Kyle Orton was only 2-of-10 in the first half for 12 yards, so this move seemed quite natural.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 18, 2005 7:58 PM ET
Redskins: Cooley good for three scores
The News

The News

Cardinals: Warner's season likely over
The News
Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during Sunday's loss to the Texans and will miss the rest of the season, according to the East Valley Tribune. He will undergo an MRI later today to confirm the diagnosis.
Our View
Denny Green has already announced that Josh McCown will be the team's new starter and he is a reasonable fantasy play next week against the Eagles if you're in need of an emergency starter due to Warner's injury. Don't get used to seeing McCown in a Cardinals' uniform, however, because the Cards are still expected to bring Warner back next season despite the injury and let Josh test the free agent waters.

Bengals: Palmer rebounds with an excellent effort
The News
Carson Palmer led the Bengals to a blowout win over the Lions on Sunday with 274 passing yards and three touchdowns.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 18, 2005 6:42 PM ET
Lions: Garcia benched
The News
How bad did Jeff Garcis play on Sunday? So bad that he was benched in favor of Joey Harrington in the fourth quarter. Garcia had 138 yards and three interceptions before being sent to the sidelines.

Panthers: Foster ready to roll
The News
A bruised shoulder won't stop Panthers running back DeShaun Foster from starting today's game against the Saints. He had been listed as probable on the team's injury report and practiced all week.
Our View
Foster will be the team's primary ball carrier for the remainder of the season because of the injury to Stephen Davis. We're hopeful John Fox trusts him with goal line duties as well, but that responsibility may fall to Nick Goings.

Titans: McNair starting
The News
Titans quarterback Steve McNair is active this week against the Seahawks despite an ankle injury that had him questionable.
Our View
McNair failed to toss a touchdown against the Texans last week and will be facing a much stiffer test today against the Seahawks. As such, we're not too high on his fantasy prospects.

Vikings: Bennett starting
The News
The Vikings' starting lineup will include Michael Bennett at running back this week. Mewelde Moore, who was listed as probable with a quadriceps injury, will be his backup.
Our View
No real surprise here, as Moore has worked himself back into Mick Tice's doghouse and Bennett has been effective in recent weeks. Still, don't be fooled into expecting much for the Vikings' running attack against the Steelers.

Titans: No Kinney this week
The News
Titans tight end Erron Kinney is inactive this week because he is not yet recovered from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee that occurred on December 6.
Our View
Ben Troupe will be the team's starter and Bo Scaife will be the team's No. 2 tight end. The Seahawks don't allow opposing tight ends to accomplish much and we don't expect that trend to chance this week.

Colts: Wayne active and starting
The News
Colts wideout Reggie Wayne is active this week despite suffering back spasms during Thursday's practice.
Our View
Wayne returned to practice on Friday and is expected to get his normal amount of snaps this week against the Chargers.

Titans: Brown ready to deliver
The News
Titans running back Chris Brown is the team's starter for week 15's game against the Seahawks. He was listed as questionable all week with an injured elbow.
Our View
The Seahawks are the best in the business at preventing running backs from entering the end zone, so it would be unwise to expect too much from Brown this week.

Texans: Davis will not suit up
The News
Texans running back Domanick Davis is inactive for today's game against the Cardinals with an injured knee. Jonathan Wells will start in his place.
Our View
Davis failed to practice all week and was inactive the last two times he was classified as a game-time decision. Wells has scored the last two times he started in place of Davis, so he's a solid play if Dom's knee issue have you looking for alternatives.

Titans: Henry inactive
The News
Titans running back Travis Henry is inactive this week after aggravated a right ankle injury last week. He was unable to practice Wednesday or Thursday and could only do some light jogging on Friday afternoon.
Our View
Chris Brown will be the Titans' featured back this week, but we don't like anyone's chances of having a big day against the Seahawks.

Vikings: Johnson done for the year
The News
Vikings offensive tackle Marcus Johnson was placed on injured reserve Monday afternoon with a high ankle sprain. The injury was suffered during Sunday's loss to Steelers.
Our View
The Vikings' offensive line takes another hit. Mike Rosenthal is expected to fill in for the rookie during the remainder of the season.

Colts: Sorgi will see time
The News
Head coach Tony Dungy told the team's website on Monday that he expects backup quarterback Jim Sorgi to receive playing time this week against the Seahawks. "I think Jim will play some in this game," Dungy said. "That's my sense. I don't know exactly how much yet. We'll talk about that as the week goes on."
Our View
This is terrible news the fantasy owners who plan on using Peyton Manning this week. The best case scenario for those owners would be Sorgi receiving only a series or two at the end of the game. However, Dungy has said he'll play this week like he would a preseason game, so expect to see Sorgi on the field for more than that.

Packers: Gado goes off with an injury
The News
Packers running back Sam Gado left Monday night's game against the Ravens in the first quarter with a tweaked right knee. ABC is reporting that his return is probable.
Our View
Tony Fisher will be the Packers' primary back while Gado is getting looked at on the sidelines.

Jaguars: Leftwich aims for week 17
The News
Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich could return from his broken left ankle as early as week 17 against the Titans, according to the team's website. "We'll get him back at some point. It's still possible [that he'll return in week 17], yes. The earliest we've said all along is that he could get back in the Tennessee game," head coach Del Rio told said during his Monday press conference. Leftwich suffered the injury during week 12's win over the Cardinals.
Our View
David Garrad has been holding down the fort at quarterback with Leftwich out and doing a pretty good job. However, Del Rio and the Jags want Leftwich to be ready for the playoffs, so they'd like to plug him back into the starting lineup during the season finale if he's healthy enough to go.

Ravens: Lewis in the lineup
The News
Ravens running back Jamal Lewis is active for Monday night's game against the Packers despite his injured hand.
Our View
Lewis will split time with Chester Taylor during the game, which is a blow to Taylor's fantasy value for the evening.

Packers: Franks won't play
The News
Packers tight end Bubba Franks is inactive for Monday night's game against the Ravens because of his back and neck injuries.
Our View
This is the second game Franks will miss because of the injuries. David Martin and Donald Lee will take over his role in the Packers' passing game.

Colts: Harrison hurts his hand
The News
Colts head coach Tony Dungy revealed on Monday that wideout Marvin Harrison suffered an injured hand during the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Chargers, according to the Associated Press. "It's a bone in his hand, but it's something I understand he'll be able to play with," Dungy said. "We've got to make a decision about whether to play him or rest him."
Our View
Harrison played through the injury on Sunday and finished with 135 yards on eight catches. However, Dungy has already announced that he will be treating this week's game like a preseason affair, which greatly increases the chances that Marvelous Marv will only play for a short period of time if at all.

Bears: Grossman gets the nod
The News
As expected, Bears head coach Lovie Smith on Monday named quarterback Rex Grossman his starter for Sunday's game against Green Bay. Grossman stepped in for a struggling Kyle Orton at halftime of Sunday night's win over Atlanta and completed 9-16 passes for 93 yards and an interception.
Our View
Grossman may be more capable than Orton, but let's remember that he's not exactly Peyton Manning. He did lead the Bears to victory in Green Bay last season, but his line (10-18, 132 yards, one touchdown, and one interception) wasn't exactly glowing.

49ers: Lloyd questionable
The News
Niners wideout Brandon Lloyd sprained his neck Sunday and is listed as questionable for this week's game against the Rams at St. Louis.
Our View
If Lloyd plays, he's failed to top 65 yards in four previous outings against the Rams, so he doesn't make a great start. However, he's the most likely Niner to score if rookie Alex Smith somehow manages to throw his first NFL touchdown.
