Saints: Brees feeling fine
The News
Saints quarterback Drew Brees told Sunday's edition of New Orleans Time-Picayune that he has improved "a thousand percent" over the last two weeks of organized team activities. Brees underwent surgery to repair the torn labrum in his throwing shoulder in January and began throwing in team drills four weeks ago.
Our View
Brees told the paper he is throwing 40 yards comfortably, which some people in San Diego may claim he couldn't do while healthy. Just teasing ya, Drew. Seriously, though, we'll be cautious about ranking Brees too high until he proves in preseason games that he can make all the throws he needs to and take endure some hits from defenders.

Patriots: Brady wearing brace on knee
The News
Tom Brady was wearing a knee brace over his left knee on the third day of minicamp. It was the same knee that Brady injured last season, and he is apparently still bothered by some pain in the joint.
Our View
Brady is an elite fantasy quarterback so don't be too concerned by this development. Tom played through this injury last season and chances are this is just a protective measure.

Browns: Jurevicius playing well
The News
Word is circulating that Joe Jurevicius has clearly been the best receiver during the Browns recent minicamp. Jurevicius, who is Cleveland native, signed with the club during the offseason and has impressed head coach Romeo Crennel immensely. "Joe has smoothness about him as you watch him run," Crennel told the Lorian Morning Journal. "He's kind of deceptive. He doesn't look like he's a blazer but he's smooth when he's covering ground. Plus, he's a big target so the quarterback can see him as he is running his routes."
Our View
The Browns had only two 100 yard efforts from receivers last season and Jurevicius was brought in to help change that. Joe J. played for Seattle last season and caught 55 passes, 10 of them for touchdowns. Jurevicius makes a nice sleeper and should go in the mid to late rounds in most fantasy formats.

Jets: Clemens stands out
The News
Kellen Clemens wasn't a first-round pick, but he could be the first quarterback from the 2006 class to earn a starting job. The Newark Star Ledger reports that he was the most impressive signal caller in Jets minicamp. He's competing against veterans Chad Pennington, Patrick Ramsey and Brooks Bollinger for a starting job. "Each guy is missing some things that you'd like them to see, and some guys are making some throws that you're really happy with," head coach Eric Mangini told the paper. "This is just that period where they're getting used to the offense."
Our View
It's still early and a healthy Pennington will likely be named the winner in case of a tie because of his experience. But if Clemens can continue to display his strong arm and leadership abilities, he will carry this battle into the preseason. Both he and Pennington are going to make the team, which means Ramsey and Bollinger are competing for employment.

Patriots: Jackson impressive
The News
Patriots rookie wideout Chad Jackson has been the talk of the spring camps, according to the Boston Herald. He was a frequent target of Tom Brady during red-zone drills in the latest minicamp.
Our View
Jackson has a legit shot at being a starter this season; all he has to do it beat out Reche Caldwell. However, the Patriots are notorious for spreading the ball around, so his fantasy value won't be too high even if he wins the job.

Ricky Williams notches 97 rush yards in CFL opener
The News
After gaining only 8 yards in the first half of Saturday nights season opener, former Dolphins running back Ricky Williams found his rhythm in the second. Williams finished with 97 yards on 18 carries in the Toronto Argonauts' 27-17 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as the Canadian Football League season gets underway.
Our View
While people may lead you to believe that what Williams does in Canada means little, many back in the states are watching closely. Williams' 5.38 yards per carry in this game could be the tip of the iceberg when playing against CFL type talent. Who knows, maybe having Williams in the backfield will inspire the Argonauts quarterback Spergon Wynn to try his hand in the NFL again as well.

Vikings: Redmond released
The News
Wide receiver Jimmy Redmond was released by the Vikings on Monday, the Associated Press reported.
Our View
Redmond injured his hamstring during voluntary team practices earlier this month and was unable to participate much since. He was one of 15 receivers on the Vikiings current roster as the team heads into minicamp beginning Tuesday.

Redskins: Three draft picks sign
The News
Linebacker Kevin Simon (7th round) and defensive tackles Anthony Montgomery (5th round) and Kedric Golston (6th round) agreed to terms on rookie contracts with the Redskins on Monday. Terms of the deals were not disclosed, the Associated Press reported.
Our View
Montgomery, Golston, and Simon represent half of the Redskins' six-man draft class. Since the 'Skins had only one pick before Round 5 and no first-round selections, they shouldn't have much trouble getting the rest of their draft picks signed before the start of training camp.

June 19, 2006 7:18 PM ET
Jaguars: Charges against Drew dropped
The News
Assault charges against Jaguars rookie tailback Maurice Drew were dropped on Monday because of insufficient evidence, according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli. "To tell you the truth, I never felt any pressure," Drew told the Jaguars site. "I knew in the end, it was going to come out that I was innocent. I'm just glad that I can [play] football now and I don't have to worry about any negative media."
Our View
Drew will compete to be the team's return specialist and third-down back during training camp, meaning his fantasy value is very limited in non-keeper leagues.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 19, 2006 6:15 PM ET
Seahawks: Rouen released
The News
Veteran punter Tom Rouen was given his walking papers by the Seahawks on Monday. He played 12 games for the NFC Champions last season, taking over for Leo Araguz in Week 5.
Our View
The Seahawks made a mistake last year going with Araguz over up-and-comer Chris Kluwe, who eventually won a starting job with the Vikings. Seattle drafted Ryan Plackemeier in the seventh round of this year's draft and appears intent on going young at punter this season.

Ravens: Sapp acquired for draft pick
The News
The Ravens acquired 25-year-old safety Gerome Sapp from the Colts on Monday in exchange for a conditional 2007 draft pick.
Our View
Sapp was a sixth-round draft pick of the Ravens in 2003 and played one season in Baltimore before being waived. He played the past two seasons with the Colts as a backup safety and special teams contributor.

June 19, 2006 3:10 PM ET
Falcons: Norwood pushing Duckett
The News
Jerious Norwood continues to gain ground on T.J. Duckett in the battle for the Falcons No. 2 running back role. Monday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the rookie Norwood is adapting quickly to the team's offense, particularly when it comes to receiving and picking up the blitz.
Our View
The Falcons entertained trade offers for Duckett during draft weekend. They might pull a trigger on such a deal if Norwood continues to outperform the veteran.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 19, 2006 12:21 PM ET
Titans: Calico strains calf
The News
Wide receiver Tyrone Calico suffered a left calf strain during the Titans' Friday practice, and he left the locker room in a walking boot. "If it's hurting I'll probably have to get an MRI," Calico told the Tennessean. "Hopefully it will be okay."
Our View
Titans coach Jeff Fisher had been raving about Calico's performance prior to the injury. Ty spent last season battling sore knees after ACL surgery the previous year, and he also missed three games with a calf strain, so this latest tweak is certainly something worth watching if you were hoping Calico might be a fantasy sleeper this year.

Falcons: Hartwell picks up the pace
The News
Falcons linebacker Edgerton Hartwell took part in all drills during the final week of the team's offseason workouts, according to Monday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He had been limited in previous sessions while recovering from Achilles tendon surgery.
Our View
IDP owners can expect to have Hartwell back at full speed for training camp this summer.

49ers: Plummer might retire
The News
Free agent cornerback Ahmed Plummer has not received much attention on the open market. Thus, the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Plummer might retire. The former first-round draft pick spent all six years of his career with the 49ers.
Our View
Injuries have derailed Plummer's career. He missed 23 games over the last season due to various injuries.

Falcons: Young kickers struggle
The News
Falcons head coach Jim Mora might be searching for a new kicker in the coming weeks. Rookie kickers Zac Derr and Tony Yelk have failed to impress during the team's offseason workouts. Monday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that re-signing last year's kicker Todd Peterson is an option.
Our View
It's hard to imagine the Falcons would seriously entertain the idea of bringing Peterson back given his lousy performance last season. Keep in mind that former Vikings kicker Paul Edinger is still available as a free agent.

Steelers: Holmes charged with domestic violence
The News
Rookie wide receiver Santonio Holmes was charged with domestic violence early Monday morning in Columbus, Ohio, according to the Associated Press. He is slated to appear in court Tuesday. Details of the complaint have not yet been made available.
Our View
Clearly, the NFL's rule which prohibited Holmes from working out with the Steelers because Ohio State classes were still in session is working; after all, this is only the second time Holmes has had a run-in with the law in the past month. You think that would have happened under Bill Cowher's watch?

Jets: Teague breaks ankle
The News
Vague reports from ESPN.com and several New York media outlets have indicated that center Trey Teague will miss training camp and possibly the start of the regular season with a broken ankle. Though head coach Eric Mangini has been tight-lipped about any of his players' injury stats (get ready for a Bill Belichick-like season of mystery surrounding injured Jets players this season), he admitted Teague injured his left leg. ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reports the injury was a fractured ankle.
Our View
If Teague is indeed out of the mix, rookie Nick Mangold – a first round draft choice – will get the reps as the starter in training camp. While Mangold is very talented, the Jets could enter the season with a very inexperienced line. Fourth overall selection D'Brickashaw Ferguson is already penciled in as the starting left tackle. Both will have to adjust quickly to protect whoever plays quarterback for the Jets and provide running lanes for Curtis Martin.

Steelers: Big Ben out of soup commercial
The News
The Chunky Soup commercial that was to star Ben Roethlisberger and his stepmother will start shooting at Heinz Field as planned Monday, but the quarterback has been written out of the script. "Obviously, Ben and his mom will not be a part of the commercial," a spokesman for the soup told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "We've reshuffled some of the creative elements of the commercial." Steeler offensive linemen Alan Faneca, Jeff Hartings, Kendall Simmons, and Max Starts and defensive lineman Casey Hampton, previously scheduled to play supporting roles, will now be the commercial's stars. The Campbell's spokesman indicated that Roethlisberger and his mother would promote the company in other ways and could be used in a later commercial.
Our View
It would seem logical for Roethlisberger to film a commercial for a less Chunky, more brothy soup—one he could eat over the next few weeks while his broken jaw heals. Plus, not needing to chew means he won't miss those teeth he lost.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 19, 2006 10:43 AM ET
Falcons: Crumpler sitting out
The News
Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler is not taking part in the team's offseason workouts. Team officials are holding him out of drills while he recovers from arthroscopic knee surgery, according to Monday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Crumpler has been working out on his own with the team's conditioning coach. He finished 2005 with 65 receptions for 877 yards and five touchdowns.
Our View
While Alge's away, the wide receivers will play. The absence of Crumpler has given quarterback Michael Vick more time to work with his young wideouts Michael Jenkins and Roddy White, who will battle for the No. 1 receiver job this summer.

Redskins: Betts impresses Saunders
The News
New Redskins associate head coach Al Saunders found out during a recent minicamp that Clinton Portis isn't his only backfield weapon. He also has Ladell Betts. "I don't know if people realize what a quality player he is," Saunders told the Washington Times. "Clinton is Clinton, one of the dominant backs in the NFL. Having somebody like Ladell has been a surprise because I knew he was good, but not this good...Ladell deserves to play and we've got to find a way to get him on the field and not just as a back-up player to Clinton."
Our View
The last part of that statement is a bit scary for fantasy owners, but we're not going to be too worried about such talk in June. Portis is still the workhorse, but fantasy owners should make sure to handcuff Betts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 19, 2006 10:21 AM ET
Chargers: Rivers impresses
The News
New Chargers starting quarterback Philip Rivers acquitted himself well in the Chargers mini-camp that ended last Friday. "Our uncertainty at the quarterback position has kind of been answered," fullback Lorenzo Neal told the San Diego Union-Tribune. Head coach Marty Schottenheimer told the Associated Press: "Its hard for me to give A's to anybody this early, but I would [give Rivers] a B-plus. I thought he did a terrific job. I was very pleased."
Our View
Considering he steps into an offense that has ranked in the top five in each of the last two seasons, Rivers' development is a critical fantasy development. So far, so good—although mini-camp is a far cry from the real thing. We'll keep a close eye on the inexperienced signal caller in training camp and the preseason.

June 19, 2006 10:18 AM ET
Redskins: Hall still rehabbing injuries
The News
Redskins kicker John Hall did only a little kicking during minicamp, as he's still recovering from injuries to his right quad and groin. "I've been kicking enough to know where I'm at," he told the Washington Times. "I'm still treating it like rehab and I'm not at full strength. But I'm headed in the right direction." Hall kicked through pain last year and underwent offseason surgery to repair muscles that were detached from his pelvis.
Our View
We're not sure how Hall managed to kick through that pain, although he didn't have many field goal chances late in the season. He'll need to stay healthy and kick well to beat out Tyler Jones in training camp.

Bears: Vasher to resume activities
The News
After leaving voluntary team practices on June 8, cornerback Nathan Vasher will be in attendance at Halas Hall for Monday's organized team activities, the Chicago Tribune reports. Vasher, a second team All-Pro in 2005, is angling for a contract extension.
Our View
Vasher has two years left on his deal, and the only player for whom the Bears have re-done a deal with that much time remaining is NFL Defensive Player of the Year Brian Urlacher. Vasher has out-played his rookie deal, but he still doesn't have a whole lot of leverage. On the field, head coach Lovie Smith has already demoted two starters—running back Thomas Jones and linebacker Lance Briggs—who have sat out practice.

Chiefs: Arena league DB signed
The News
The Chiefs signed defensive back Jerald Brown to a two-year contract on Tuesday. Brown was the defensive player of the year in the Arena League last season.
Our View
The Chiefs depth chart at cornerback is wide open behind Patrick Surtain, so Brown should receive a legitimate chance to make the roster under new head coach Herm Edwards. The fact that he signed a two-year deal also bodes well for his chances.

Buccaneers: McCown requires surgery for torn ACL
The News
Backup quarterback Luke McCown will have knee surgery later this week to repair a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and could miss a significant part of the 2006 season, ESPN reported. He injured the knee while scrambling out of the pocket in a team workout June 15.
Our View
McCown was expected to be the primary backup to Chris Simms this season, but the Bucs will most likely look to the free agent market to fill his roster spot. For the time being, former 49er Tim Rattay will move up to No. 2 on the depth chart.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 20, 2006 1:45 PM ET
Rams: Ragone acquired
The News
The Rams added another quarterback to their roster when they acquired Dave Ragone in a trade with the Bengals on Tuesday. The Rams gave up an undisclosed draft choice in 2007 to get Ragone, who has appeared in just two games in three seasons.
Our View
Rams head coach Scott Linehan was Ragone's offensive coordinator at Louisville. However, Ragone has his work cut out for him in St. Louis, as he will battle Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jeff Smoker for the No. 3 spot on the quarterback totem pole.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 20, 2006 10:46 AM ET
Packers: Taylor exceeding expectations
The News
Packers officials feel as though they may have found themselves a starting linebacker in free agent addition Ben Taylor, who signed a one-year deal back in March. Taylor has been working with the first-team defense during the team's offseason workout, the Green Bay Press Gazette reported on Tuesday. He is listed ahead of Roy Manning on the depth chart at the strong side position.
Our View
IDP owners should keep in mind that it's still early and the Packers have been practicing primarily in shorts. There's still a chance the coaches will move third-round pick Abdul Hodge from middle linebacker to the strong side to compete with Taylor during training camp.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 20, 2006 10:33 AM ET
49ers: Haralson signs
The News
The 49ers signed rookie linebacker Parys Haralson on Monday, according to the Contra Costa Times. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The Niners selected Haralson in the fifth round of the draft back in April.
Our View
Haralson played defensive end for Tennessee in college, but he is making the switch to outside linebacker in the Niners' 3-4 defensive scheme.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 20, 2006 9:39 AM ET
Chiefs: Sims on notice
The News
Starting defensive tackle and former No. 6 overall draft pick Ryan Sims is running out of chances with defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham. "He's got to produce," Cunningham told the Kansas City Star. "He knows he needs to produce. He came into camp overweight. It's his job to get into shape. He said he was getting into shape. I wanted him in shape when he got here."
Our View
Under Herm Edwards, practice runs at an entirely different pace than it did under Dick Vermeil. According to the Star, that pace has proven difficult for Sims on at least one occasion. Given that their playoff hopes rest squarely on the team's lackluster defense, Edwards and Cunningham likely won't exhibit much patience for anyone lagging behind.

Bears: Vasher just wants extra year
The News
Cornerback Nathan Vasher understands that the Bears' policy is to not re-work contracts with multiple years left on them. Thus, his management has proposed keeping his current deal in place and merely adding a higher-priced extra season on the end, the Chicago Tribune reports. Vasher returned to Halas Hall on Monday after missing six straight organized team activities.
Our View
Like Thomas Jones and Lance Briggs before him, Vasher expects to be demoted but isn't worried about re-gaining his starting job in training camp. So long as he reports to training camp as indicated, we won't be too worried about this either.

Bengals: Rucker charged with battery
The News
Defensive end Frostee Rucker, the Bengals' third-round pick in April's NFL draft, has been charged with spousal battery and vandalism after getting into a heated exchange with his girlfriend.
Our View
So far, Frostee has made it into the news for having a cool name and getting arrested. We'll see if we ever get the privelege of mentioning him for his work on the football field.

Bengals: Perry questionable for training camp
The News
Running back Chris Perry was the only skill position player that Bengals coach Marvin Lewis characterized as questionable for the start of training camp, the Cincinnati Post reported Wednesday.
Our View
Perry had arthroscopic knee surgery in April and seems to have a foot injury as well, as evidenced by him wearing a walking boot during a recent minicamp. He will almost certainly enter the season as the top backup to Rudi Johnson, but these injuries could limit his role as the Bengals regular third down back early in the season.

Vikings: Williamson returns to work
The News
Vikings wide receiver Troy Williamson was back on the job on Tuesday for the first time since he underwent surgery in May to remove an abscess from his left hip. "I'm doing everything that everybody else is doing," Williamson told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "The only (thing that I feel) limited in is my conditioning." The Vikings selected Williamson with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2005 draft.
Our View
Williamson might also be a step behind in terms of executing the new offense that head coach Brad Childress is installing. The good news is that he's back on the field and should be up to speed before training camp starts late next month.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 21, 2006 2:26 PM ET
Packers: Harris might hold out
The News
Packers cornerback Al Harris indicated Tuesday that he might not report to training camp after all. "It's not 100 percent, that's for sure," Harris told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I'd like to come and do my job, but everyone's got to be fair, too. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out." Harris' agent previously claimed that his client would report for all mandatory workouts despite skipping voluntary sessions in protest of his contract.
Our View
Harris is starting to sound a lot like former teammate Mike McKenzie, who staged a lengthy holdout before he was traded to the Saints two years ago. We'll keep IDP owners up to speed on Al's potential holdout as information becomes available.

June 21, 2006 12:31 PM ET
Chiefs: Mitchell stiffens up
The News
Starting middle linebacker Kawika Mitchell took the day off of mini-camp workouts on Tuesday with a stiff back, the Kansas City Star reports. Reserve Boomer Grigsby played with the first string in Mitchell's absence.
Our View
This doesn't sound serious in the least bit, not that you were worried about Kawika all that much.

Buccaneers: Gruden downplays quarterback need
The News
The ACL injury suffered by quarterback Luke McCown has created an open spot on the Buccaneers depth chart. However, head coach Jon Gruden is shooting down rumors that the search for a replacement is already underway. "We've four quarterbacks," Gruden told the St. Petersburg Times on Tuesday. "We're not going to bring just anybody in because he has experience. We're looking for somebody out there that has good experience that can come in and play good and help us. If there's a guy like that out there that we deem worthy of bringing in here, we'll do that."
Our View
The Bucs depth chart currently lists Chris Simms as the starter with Tim Rattay, rookie Bruce Gradkowski, and NFL Europe quarterback Jared Allen as his backups. Rattay performed admirably as the 49ers starter prior to his arrival in Tampa, so it is conceivable that Gruden would feel comfortable using him as the primary backup.

Titans: Brown the clear No. 1 back
The News
Titans running backs coach Sherman Smith said Thursday that Chris Brown is the definite No.1 tailback on the team's depth chart because of his ability to pass block effectively. "I trust (Brown) the most in pass protection, and he's not a bad receiver," Smith told the Associated Press.
Our View
The Titans' backfield is as crowded as any in the league, but it's clear that Brown is in line for the most carries of the bunch, at least as long as all three are healthy. For now, consider Brown the No. 1 back, LenDale White the goal line guy, and Travis Henry the third down specialist.

Buccaneers: Boston impresses Gruden
The News
Wide receiver David Boston has looked "pretty damn good" at Buccaneers minicamp thus far, according to head coach Jon Gruden.
Our View
Boston certainly has the potential to help the Buccaneers passing game, but considering his injury problems and his likely No. 3 position on the team's depth chart, he still isn't worth drafting in fantasy leagues.

Giants: Flowers signs on
The News
The Giants reached a contract agreement with running back John Flowers on Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Our View
Flowers was invited to the Jets training camp each of the past two years but has failed to catch on with an NFL team to this point in his career. He scored two touchdowns for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe this spring.

Bears: Benson drawing praise
The News
Head coach Lovie Smith singled out second-year running back Cedric Benson for his performance in mini-camps this spring. "Cedric Benson is another player I'll talk about who's been here throughout the entire offseason and has gotten better and better," Smith told the Chicago Sun-Times. "We're really excited about what he might be able to do for us this year.'
Our View
Erstwhile starter Thomas Jones did Benson a huge favor by not showing up to voluntary workouts, giving Cedric the opportunity to take reps with the first-team offense. It certainly sounds as if Benson took advantage.

Jets: Martin to share the load?
The News
In his first interview with the media, new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer talked about the Jets offense, including the role of running back Curtis Martin. "It's way too early do decipher if Cutis can do that (continue to carry the ball 300 times per season)," Schottenheimer told the Newark Star-Ledger. "If we have four running backs we think can play, we're going to be flexible enough to play all four."
Our View
Martin, who is coming off minor knee surgery that ended his 2005 season prematurely, is 33 years old and has over 3,500 carries on his treads, including over 300 in eight of his 11 seasons. The Jets previous coach, Herm Edwards, ran C-Mart into the ground nearly every season. Schottenheimer and the Jets have been tight-lipped about, well, everything this offseason, but we're pretty certain Schottenheimer is simply aiming to keep his future Hall of Famer fresh, not indicating that he'll be part of a job share.

Titans: Guenther hurts wrist
The News
Tight end Gregg Guenther injured his right wrist during Wednesday's practice. He was scheduled to undergo X-rays to determine the severity of the injury.
Our View
Guenther is a nice insurance policy behind the Titans' regular tight ends, especially since Erron Kinney, Ben Troupe, and Bo Scaife all seemed to find their way onto the injury report last season. Fantasy-wise, however, Guenther doesn't do much for us.

Jaguars: Williams running with first team
The News
While much of the attention has focused on Matt Jones filling the No. 1 receiver role for the Jaguars, Reggie Williams' return to the starting lineup has flown under the radar. Williams has been working with the first team during Jacksonville's organized training activities, with Ernest Wilford running with the second unit. "I'll use that as motivation," Wilford told the Florida Times-Union. "I've got supreme confidence that the right players will be playing in the first game of the season."
Our View
Wilford started last season after Williams suffered a concussion and led the Jags with seven touchdown grabs. Williams was a first-round pick, though, and Jacksonville isn't quite ready to give up on him just yet, so Wilford will have to earn his playing time during training camp.

Packers: Harris' agent disputes holdout talk
The News
The story regarding Packers cornerback Al Harris took another twist on Wednesday. One day after Harris told the media he would consider holding out of training camp in protest of his contract status, his agent reiterated his earlier claim that his client will report to camp on time. "He'll be there, and it won't be an issue," agent Jack Bechta told the Green Bay Press Gazette on Wednesday. "If he's not there, I would be more surprised than anyone." Harris has three years remaining on his current contract.
Our View
At this point, we don't know what to believe. On one hand, Harris was quoted on Tuesday as telling a reporter he would consider holding out. Now his agent, who has said all along that Harris will report on time, is disputing his client's comments. IDP owners should just sit back and let this situation unfold before adjusting Harris' spot in the rankings.

Bears: Lovie doesn't expect holdouts
The News
Although Bears mini-camps have been notable for the absences of running back Thomas Jones, linebacker Lance Briggs, and cornerback Nathan Vasher, head coach Lovie Smith does not expect the three starters to hold out when training camp begins in five weeks. "I would definitely be surprised if we had a holdout,' Smith told the Chicago Sun-Times. "The players know what's at stake. We need to be here. Training camp is important."
Our View
Smith went on to reference running back Cedric Benson's rookie holdout and how it virtually ruined his 2005 season. If Jones has any interest in holding onto the starting job that yielded career highs in rushing and touchdowns last season, he should taken Benson's lesson to heart and show up on time in July.

Buccaneers: Fonoti returns
The News
After missing Tuesday's minicamp workout, offensive lineman Toniu Fonoti was back on the practice field on Wednesday. "I just had some family business I had to take care of," Fonoti told the Tampa Tribune. "I wanted to get that done, then I got on a plane and got here (Wednesday) morning." Bucs head coach Jon Gruden said he had yet to speak to Fonoti about his unexcused absence.
Our View
The big question is how much Fonoti weighed when he reported to practice. He ate himself out of a job in San Diego and was grossly overweight when he played for the Vikings last season. If he can control his appetite, he has the talent to win a starting guard job this summer.

Dolphins: Wilkinson a target
The News
The Dolphins are going after free agent defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson, according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli. He was released by the Detroit in May.
Our View
Wilkinson thought about retiring this offseason, but it now seems he will return for another round of paychecks.

Chiefs: Turley looking good
The News
Chiefs offensive lineman Kyle Turley has been doing well in his recent comeback attempt, according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli.
Our View
Turley will battle Jordan Black and Kevin Sampson to be the starting right tackle in Kansas City. Considering how valuable Larry Johnson is, anything involving his offensive line should be noted by fantasy owners.

Saints: Brown arrested
The News
Saints defensive tackle Jammal Brown was arrested on Thursday and charged with domestic abuse battery. "I can certainly say it was a physical altercation," police spokesman George Bonnett told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "We know they had a disagreement and it escalated into a physical disagreement." The spokesman also noted that Brown was cooperative will police.
Our View
Brown, whom the Saints selected in the first round of the 2005 draft, is arguably the team's best blocker. He probably won't miss any playing time, assuming this is his first incident.

Buccaneers: Fiedler visits
The News
A day after claiming he didn't think his team needed to add another quarterback, Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden played host to free agent signal caller Jay Fiedler. "Right now this is just a feeling-out process," Fiedler told the Tampa Tribune on Thursday. "After what happened to Luke (McCown), they're just looking for a guy to come in and compete a little bit." McCown underwent surgery to repair a partially torn ACL on Thursday.
Our View
Fiedler is still recovering from a torn labrum. He had surgery in December and might not be ready to compete this summer. If nothing else, his appearance at team headquarters shows that the Bucs are in the market for a veteran quarterback.

Cowboys: Crowder kicked while he's down
The News
The Cowboys released wide receiver Tom Crowder on Thursday. He'd been away from the team while recovering from a broken jaw suffered during the NFL-Europe season.
Our View
There's no fantasy impact here. Crowder was a special teams and practice squad guy.

Redskins: Lefotu signs
The News
The Redskins signed offensive guard Kili Lefotu on Thursday, the team's official web site reported. Terms were not disclosed. Lefotu was a seventh-round pick out of Arizona.
Our View
Barring a major surprise or injury, Lefotu will be strictly a depth guy in year one.

Chiefs: Edwards coy on Law
The News
Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards continues to deflect speculation that the team is working towards signing free agent cornerback Ty Law. "I told you guys when the story started that he won't sign, you won't see Ty Law until training camp somewhere," he told the Kansas City Star. "We'll see him at somebody's training camp. And we'll leave it at that."
Our View
Kansas City remains a likely destination for Law, who played under Edwards last year. The Chiefs still need a reliable starter opposite Patrick Surtain in the defensive backfield.

Dolphins: Mueller meets with Brooks
The News
Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller met with linebacker Ahmad Brooks earlier this week, according to Saturday's Miami Herald. Brooks is considered the top player available in July's supplemental draft.
Our View
Brooks has talent, but he had off-field issues in college, which included a 2003 arrest for marijuana possession. Given the problems the Dolphins have had with suspended running back Ricky Williams, one might think they would be the last time to show interest in Brooks.

Chiefs: Charges against Wesley dismissed
The News
The bar bouncer who accused Chiefs safety Greg Wesley of lunging at him back in January failed to show up for court on Friday. Thus, a judge dismissed the charges against Wesley, according to the Kansas City Star. The charge cannot be refiled.
Our View
Wesley finished last season with 65 tackles and six interceptions, so he has some value in IDP leagues.

Dolphins: Williams struggling
The News
Suspended Dolphins running back Ricky Williams was held to 14 yards on eight carries in his second game with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts on Friday. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated Ricky and the Argonauts 16-9.
Our View
Williams opened the season with a 97-yard performance last week, but he couldn't get anything going this time around.

Packers: Tollefson signs
The News
The Packers signed rookie defensive end Dave Tollefson to a contract on Friday. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The Packers selected Tollefson with a seventh-round compensatory pick.
Our View
Tollefson has been working as a backup and on special teams during the offseason workouts, so he has no value in IDP leagues.

Cardinals: No new deal for Davis
The News
Cardinals vice president Rod Graves said Thursday that the team has no intention of giving offensive tackle Leonard Davis a new contract this season. "His performance will dictate where he stands next year in terms of his money," Graves told the Arizona Republic. "And I'm sure he recognizes that. We made a decision to go forward this year under his rookie deal." Davis will be a free agent after the 2006 season.
Our View
At some point, the Cardinals have to address their offensive line issues. The unit was so lousy last year that Arizona running backs scored just two rushing touchdowns. Davis might not be a Pro Bowl player yet, but he's arguably the best blocker the Cardinals have.

Patriots: Branch still holding out
The News
With just over a month to go before the team reports to training camp, the Patriots are still without wide receiver Deion Branch. Branch is still holding out for a restructured contract, according to the Boston Herald. He is entering the final year of the five-year deal he signed as a rookie.
Our View
Branch's absence has given rookie Chad Jackson more reps during the offseason workouts. Unfortunately, reports out of the Beantown area suggest that Jackson hasn't exactly made the most of this opportunity. Fantasy owners shouldn't move Branch down in their rankings just yet, as there is still a chance he and Pats will reach an agreement of some kind before training camp opens next month.

Browns: Edwards could miss five games
The News
Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards might not make his return from ACL surgery until week seven. The Cleveland Plain Dealer speculated on Sunday that Edwards might sit out through the team's bye in week six. He originally tore his right ACL during week 13 last season.
Our View
Although nothing is official regarding Edwards' status, his fantasy stock would drop considerably if the speculation he will miss five games is accurate. We'll continue to monitor his status throughout the summer.

Packers: Offseason participation increased
The News
Although several players have skipped the Packers voluntary workouts, head coach Mike McCarthy claims that participation in the team's offseason workout program is actually 30 percent higher than in any other year, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. Cornerbacks Charles Woodson and Al Harris are among the players who have skipped the voluntary sessions.
Our View
The Packers are still waiting for Woodson to make his first on-field appearance with the team. Meanwhile, Harris has been skipping the sessions in protest of his contract situation. He has threatened to miss training camp time, but his agent claims his client will report on time next month.

Raiders: Jackson will visit
The News
Free agent defensive tackle Grady Jackson will visit the Raiders later the week, ESPN reported.
Our View
Jackson is one of the few players still on the free agent market that has the potential to become a starter with his new team. At 33, Jackson is unlikely to receive a contract offer longer than two years, but he and Warren Sapp would give the Raiders a very effective interior run defense if he signed with Oakland.

Titans: Young making progress
The News
Titans quarterback Vince Young has impressed coaches with his progress in team minicamps and has officially moved past Matt Mauck on the depth chart, according to the Tennessean.
Our View
Offensive coordinator Norm Chow has said Young's strides thus far have been monumental. The news here isn't so much that Young has moved past Mauck on the depth chart (which was expected), but that the talented rookie is earning the confidence of his coaches.

Chiefs: Hali challenging
The News
Rookie defensive end Tamba Hali may challenge for a starting spot on the Chiefs defensive line, the Kansas City Star reports. Hali ran with the first team in mini-camp, but starter Eric Hicks was held out recovering from shoulder surgery.
Our View
Hali is a gifted pass rusher who will eventually line up opposite Jared Allen and get after the quarterback. Whether he is initially held out on obvious run downs is the question at this point.

Titans: Pacman won't return punts
The News
Second-year cornerback Pacman Jones will most likely not return punts in 2006 as he did during his rookie season. Jones is still expected to return kickoffs, but the punt return duties will probably go to free agent pickup Bobby Wade, ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reported.
Our View
Less special teams responsibilities should mean a better focus on coverage duties for Jones, who was prone to mental lapses as a rookie. As far as the punt returns go, the Titans seem to be putting an awful lot of faith in a Wade, who fumbled or muffed nine punts for the Bears in 2005.

Browns: Winslow could see time at wide receiver
The News
With Braylon Edwards not expected back to the lineup until after the Browns' week six bye, tight end Kellen Winslow could find himself lining up as a wide receiver. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns may experiment with two-tight end formations in which Winslow and Steve Heiden are both on the field, then split Winslow out and put Dennis Northcutt in the slot.
Our View
Winslow reported he was at 90 percent of full health during the team's recent offseason workouts, and given his talent and potential he's got plenty of fantasy upside—especially if others in your league have forgotten him, given that he's barely played the past two seasons.

Texans: Kubiak likes backfield depth
The News
The absence of starter Domanick Davis and second-year player Vernand Morency during the Texans' recent offseason workouts may have been a blessing in disguise, as it gave veteran Antowain Smith and rookies Wali Lundy, Chris Taylor, and Damien Rhodes plenty of repetitions. "I'm surprised [at our depth]," Texans coach Gary Kubiak told the team's official web site. "Antowain is a veteran guy that we're very excited to get. We think he fits what we do. You look at Wali Lundy, Taylor, and Rhodes… we're very, very fortunate to pick this young men up, and they have been a big surprise throughout the summer. They're doing a good job."
Our View
Davis is still recovering from offseason knee surgery, while Morency missed time with plantar fasciitis. Lundy was also sidelined at times while recovering from a strained hamstring, but his familiarity with the zone-blocking attack the Texans used—he operated in a similar offense in college—make him an intriguing candidate as a backup. Given Davis' penchant for getting nicked up, not to mention Kubiak's track record of turning no-name backs into 1,000-yard rushers in Denver, whomever winds up as the backup in Houston would have significant fantasy value as a handcuff to Davis.

Chiefs: Brown turning heads in backfield
The News
Running back Dee Brown has been impressive in offseason workouts and may have the inside track to the primary backup job to Larry Johnson should veteran Priest Holmes elect not to play, the Kansas City Star reports. Brown had only seven carries for the Chiefs last season, but did take 102 handoffs for 360 yards and four touchdowns for the Panthers in 2002.
Our View
Former Bronco Quentin Griffin, second-year back McKenzie Smith, and rookies DeArrius Howard and Derrick Ross are also on the roster, but Dee Brown's ability to pump up his Reeboks and dunk with his eyes closed cannot be matched. Oops, wrong Dee Brown.

Chargers: McNeill to pump iron
The News
Rookie left tackle Marcus McNeill will be spending his time between mini-camp and training camp in the weight room. The Chargers second-round pick, who worked with the second team in recent practices, would like to add muscle mass to his 340-pound frame, the team's official website reports.
Our View
McNeill may currently be playing on the second string, but it's worth noting that he is backing up veteran tackle Roman Oben, who is coming off of two foot surgeries.

Steelers: Big Ben back at it
The News
Ben Roethlisberger is making his push to come back from his motorcycle accident and be ready for the start of training camp. ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that Roethlisberger has lost a few pounds from eating only soft foods because of his broken jaw, but his weight loss hasn't been too dramatic. According to Clayton, Roethlisberber is already lifting weights and doing a good job handling his added pain issues.
Our View
Big Ben is a very lucky guy. First off, he falls into an ideal situation with the Steelers and becomes the youngest quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl. Then he seemingly defies death in an incredible accident. If Roethlisberger is ready to go when camp opens, you should consider drafting him as a good luck charm for your squad. This guy walks on water.

Patriots: Samuel working hard
The News
Pats cornerback Asante Samuel has taken a different approach to his offseason training this year and it is really paying off. In addition to extra work, at times Samuel teamed up with Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Jevon Kearse to train as well. The work, supervised by trainer Jeff Sanders, was designed so nothing will hold the 25 year old Samuel back as he enters the final year of his contract.
Our View
The 25 year old Samuel has been a key contributor in the Patriots defensive backfield for three years now. If Ty Law does make a return trip to Foxborough and Samuel steps his game up the Patriots should improve on their 31st ranked pass defense. At this stage, however, thier team defense is not worthy of starting status in most fantasy formats.

Ravens: Reed gets new deal
The News
Four year veteran safety Ed Reed, the league's defensive player of the year in 2004, has reached an agreement with the Baltimore Ravens on a six year contract extension. Reed was entering the final year of his original contract with the team, at a base salary of $1.983 million, and would have been eligible for unrestricted free agency without this new contract.
Our View
Reed is an elite defensive player who has game changing ability from the safety position. Baltimore was expected to make signing him a priority in the offseason to insure that he remains a Raven. While he did miss six games last year and posted career lows in tackles and interceptions, he remains atop the league at his position.

June 27, 2006 5:56 PM ET
Titans: Volek putting in work
The News
Titans starting quarterback Billy Volek has been busy getting the first team reps and establishing timing with his wide receivers. Volek also has plans to work on his own with several of his key targets before training camp begins. "I have a plan to meet with some of the wide receivers out in Arizona," Volek told the Nashville City Paper. "There's a little camp out there a lot of the guys around the league go to. It's just to go out there and carry us through till the season, and to get our timing down."
Our View
Volek could certainly benefit from extra work with David Givens, Drew Bennett, and Bobby Wade. When given opportunity Volek has shown the ability to make all of the NFL throws. He passed for 15 touchdowns during a five game stretch of starts in 2004, and had an especially nice connection with Bennett. If he can keep Vince Young at bay, Volek could develop into a worthwhile fantasy quarterback.

Buccaneers: Rookie Williams out for year
The News
Rookie tight end T.J. Williams will miss the entire 2006 season after tearing his Achilles tendon during a minimcamp practice last Thursday, according to Pewterreport.com.
Our View
Williams was unlikely to work his way past No. 3 on the tight end depth chart, so his absence shouldn't have any effect on the fantasy prospects of other Bucs players.

Cardinals: Dansby might get an extension
The News
Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby is under contract through 2007, but the Arizona Republic reports he may be in line for an extension this summer.
Our View
Dansby has turned out to be an excellent pick for the Cardinals, who chose him in the second round of the 2004 draft. It would be wise for them to lock him up with a long-term deal, especially since they have plenty of cap room to do so.

"So I just thought about investing and bringing it back home.'
Our View
Exactly what do you think the Caribbean Blend Tropical Fruit Smoothie is made of? This is the last bit of Raiders news we've learned since the Oakland Tribune informed us that a Raiders helmet was used in a life-saving surgical procedure in mid June. Rams: Bennett an option if Faulk retires
The News
Future hall of famer Marshall Faulk is considering retirement due to cumulative knee damage. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Rams could have some interest in Saints running back Michael Bennett if Faulk decides to call it quits. Bennett has been demoted to third on the Saints depth chart after New Orleans acquired Reggie Bush in April's NFL Draft.
Our View
Bennett would back up Stephen Jackson if this were to happen, so he would have fantasy relevancy again. Jackson will get the bulk of the carries in St. Louis while healthy, but fantasy players who draft him would be wise to get his handcuff.

Broncos: When will Lelie be dealt?
The News
Ashley Lelie is entering the last season of his contract and he wants out of Denver badly. Mike Shanahan has already replaced him with Javon Walker, but the Broncos seem unwilling to trade the disgruntled wideout unless they can get a first round pick or a top running back in return.
Our View
Lelie will be moved before camp, but Shanahan may have to lower his asking price get a deal done. Lelie wants to be a number one receiver, but his lack of consistency and his contract situation make him a less than desirable commodity at this point. If Denver is able to acquire another running back, Tatum Bell could become the next Bronco on the block.

Bears: Peterson gets three-year extension
The News
Running back Adrian Peterson agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Bears on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Our View
Peterson will be the Bears third-string tailback this season behind Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry in 2005 and is a capable tailback, but has no fantasy value unless Jones or Benson get injured.

Dolphins: New receiver added
The News
The Miami Dolphins have claimed wide receiver Jammall Broussard off waivers according to published reports. Broussard, who was released by Cincinnati last week, has been brought in to add depth for training camp.
Our View
Broussard is probably a practice squad player at best and has no value for in most fantasy leagues.

Steelers: Holmes off to bad start
The News
Santonio Holmes was drafted by Pittsburgh to replace the departed Antwaan Randle El, but since minicamp he has done little to impress the coaches. In fact, in a span of 25 days Holmes was arrested in two cities, the most recent (and more serious) time, he was charged with domestic violence and assault for an incident involiving the mother of one of his 3 children. At least one former NFL executive who deals with college football players said he thought Holmes was a problem "ready to explode." Holmes also faces a possible suspension from the league for his misdeeds.
Our View
As if it weren't enough to have Big Ben do his mosquito impression, Holmes' off field issues are another major cause for concern in the Pittsburgh passing game. Santonio should stop going Pittman on his girlfriends and focus on playing football. He hasn't even signed with the Steelers yet, and is looking like a real bust. Pittsburgh new what they were getting into with this guy, and he's certainly making himself look like a real thug.

Patriots: Law stands ground
The News
The Patriots and Chiefs are believed to be the teams most interested in acquiring Ty Law's services; however, Law hasn't backed off his $7 million a year, $10 million signing bonus demands. The ten year vet is citing his consistency as the reason that he should be paid top dollar. Law made the Pro Bowl last season as a New York Jet, and his ten interceptions had him tied for the NFL lead.
Our View
Law was rumored to be close to a deal to resign with the Patriots, but thier hope was that he would do a more financially friendly deal to play again for the team he won three Super Bowls with. Law knows the Pats have more than $15 million of cap room, the most in the league. We still think a deal will be consummated with New England, but it may not happen until training camp begins.

Bears: Bannister signed
The News
The Bears signed veteran receiver and special teams standout Alex Bannister on Wednesday, ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reported. Bannister was released by the Seahawks on June 2.
Our View
Bannister is considered one of the NFL's top coverage men on punts and kickoffs and was voted to the 2003 Pro Bowl as a special teamer. Multiple collarbone injuries have limited him to just nine games the past two seasons, though he is reportedly fully recovered.

Raiders: Washington added to defensive line
The News
The Raiders signed free agent defensive tackle Donnell Washington on Tuesday, ESPN's Len Pasquarelli reported.
Our View
Washington was a third-round draft pick of the Packers in 2004, but never appeared in a game because of chronic weight problems and an apparent lack of motivation. Though Washington doesn't project as anything more than a backup, his signing might diminish the chances of Grady Jackson signing with Oakland.

One of the other teams is the Giants and the third team he has not identified. In related news, Fiedler's doctors told him that his surgically repaired shoulder should heal in time for training camp.

Patriots: Sullivan arrested on drug charges
The News
Defensive tackle Johnathan Sullivan was charged with possession of marijuana after his car was pulled over and subsequently searched by police on Sunday, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
Our View
Sullivan, a first-round draft pick in 2003, recorded just 1.5 sacks in three seasons with the Saints before being traded to the Patriots earlier this month. He projected as a backup to Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfork in New England, though we'll be interested to see how Bill Belichick reacts to his latest transgressions.

Buccaneers: Fiedler signs on
The News
The Buccaneers signed quarterback Jay Fielder on Thursday. Terms of his deal have not been announced. Fiedler will compete with Tim Rattay for the No. 2 job behind starter Chris Simms.

Bears: Hillenmeyer gets five-year deal
The News
Linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Bears on Thursday. The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus, ESPN's John Clayton reported.
Our View
Hillenmeyer isn't nearly as flashy as many of his teammates on the Bears defense, but his 161 tackles over the past two seasons rank third on the team. There is a chance, however, that fourth-round draft pick Jamar Williams could unseat him as a starter by the end of the season.

Rams: Incognito openly displays his talent
The News
Rams guard Richie Incognito missed the entire 2005 season because of a knee injury, but the team's website reports the second-year lineman looked good in offseason minicamps.
Our View
Incognito's main competition for the starting job opposite Adam Timmerman is Claude Terrell, who started seven games last season. Terrell can play either guard spot, so if Incognito wins the job, Claude will be a valuable backup on a line that we expect to open plenty of holes for Steven Jackson.

Packers: Transition tough for Favre
The News
Packers quarterback Brett Favre admitted on Wednesday that learning a new offense hasn't been easy. "I can't say it's been exciting," Favre told NFL Network. "The transition has gone okay, but it has been difficult. I mean, 15 years with the same offense. I think what makes it so difficult is, I think, when people watch us this upcoming year, for the most part, the plays will be recognizable. But the way we call them, the terminology, is totally different." New head coach Mike McCarthy is installing the offense he used as an offensive coordinator with the 49ers and Saints.
Our View
It remains to be seen whether the new offense will have a positive or negative effect on Brett's game. However, we don't think it will be a major issue given that he's simply learning new terminology for plays he's been using for 15 seasons.

Chiefs: Undrafted rookie receiver signs
The News
The Chiefs agreed to a two-year contract with undrafted free agent wide receiver Kyle Brown on Wednesday, the team's official website reports.
Our View
Brown caught 88 passes for 1,329 yards and six touchdowns in 42 games for Michigan State. We'll wager a guess that he won't see the field much this season.

Texans: Another ex-Bronco added
The News
The Texans named Dale Strahm director of college scouting. Strahm has been a scout for the Broncos for the past four seasons.
Our View
Houston has done everything but load Mile High Stadium onto a big truck and drive it south, having already added former Broncos at coach, GM, and tight end. Then again, given Denver's track record of success, it's not a bad system to emulate.

Chiefs: Holmes feeling good
The News
Chiefs running back Priest Holmes refutes speculation that he is on the verge of retiring due to a frightening neck/spine injury last season. "Why wouldn't I [want to play]?" he told the Washington Times. "I feel great. Medically, what I've been told is that I need to wait and not make a quick decision based on the feeling [that] I can get out there. I believe at the end of the day, it's my final decision. Will I take what [the doctors] say to heart and really think about it? I will once the time comes." Holmes has still not been cleared for contact.
Our View
There isn't really anything new in this report, other than the rare public acknowledgment from Holmes himself and the fact that he suggests he feels good. We recommend that until further notice you continue to keep Priest on your cheat sheet as a high-upside handcuff to Larry Johnson.

Cardinals: Green wants record breaking year for Edge
The News
Arizona head coach Dennis Green fully believes that his team has solved the Cardinals' ground game problems. The Cards were 32nd in the NFL in rushing last season and brought in Edgerrin James to bring balance to their attack. "We'd love to get 1,600 yards from him this year, shatter every record we've ever had," Green told the NFL Network. Edgerrin James finished fifth in rushing last season with 1506 yards for Indianapolis, while the Cardinals managed only 1138 total rushing yards as a team.
Our View
Dennis Green has a track record of getting production from his entire offense, and we expect Edge to play very well this season. James is an elite back who can be trusted as the cornerstone of your team this fall. While he may not get 1600 yards rushing, he will continue to be a mult-purpose threat and a legit number one back in fantasyland. His scoring opportunities will be more limited in Arizona, thus he has moved down our boards a few places.

Falcons: White and Vick clicking
The News
Second year man Roddy White has spent lots of time this offseason working with quarterback Michael Vick. It seems White has recovered fully from the ankle injury that slowed him during his rookie season. Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that White and Vick are clicking and that the Falcons may have finally found a go-to receiver for Vick.
Our View
If White does emerge as the Falcons deep threat, it could mean better things for both he and Vick. We tend to think that Vick needs a bit more than just help at wide receiver to become a legit fantasy quarterback, but White is a solid sleeper at this point and Vick cannot be hurt by better downfield targets who can get behind the defense.

Bears: Fourth round pick signed
The News
The Bears have capped a busy week at the bargaining table by signing rookie linebacker Jamar Williams, a fourth-round draft choice from Arizona State. Williams signed a four-year, $2.025 million contract with a $415,000 signing bonus. He is the fourth of Chicago's seven selections in this year's draft to come to terms on a contract.
Our View
While the Bears boast one of the NFL's top linebacker corps, Williams could see situational playing time as a rookie. Depending on negotiations with Pro Bowl weak side linebacker Lance Briggs, Williams might even be a starter by his second season. The Bears remain an elite fantasy defense.

Bengals: Henry will stand trial
The News
Wide receiver Chirs Henry will stand trial on charges he gave alcohol to three under aged women. Kenton District Judge Douglas Grothaus set a Sept. 26 court date but for now he is free on $2,500 bond. The court ordered that Henry is to is to have no alcohol or contact with minors, unless they are family members.
Our View
Henry's six touchdowns as a rookie were impressive, but Chris has too many off field problems to be depended upon by fantasy owners. While many of us understand his attraction to under aged women, he should know better and will ultimately be disciplined accordingly.

Steelers: Roethlisberger to throw
The News
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is healing faster and looking better than expected according to the Pittsburgh Gazette. Big Ben is scheduled to start throwing next week for the first time since his motorcycle accident but the Steelers are in no hurry to rush him back. He will soon attempt to throw light passes to test his strength, awareness and stability, but so far in his appearances at the Steelers' offices he has done nothing more than pick up mail and other items.
Our View
Big Ben should continue to count his numerous blessings. Seeing him throw this soon is an encouraging sign. Time will tell if his numerous head and facial traumas will affect his play, but for the now it appears that he will be ready to start the season.

The News
The Bears agreed to terms with second-round draft pick Devin Hester on Sunday. Hester will receive a four-year contract, though terms of the deal were not disclosed, ESPN reported.
Our View
Only two of the Bears' seven draft picks are yet to sign, cornerback Danieal Manning and defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek. Hester, who is expected to return punts and possibly kickoffs for the Bears as a rookie, is the first second-round pick from this year's NFL Draft to sign a contract.

The News
Pro Bowl cornerback Ronde Barber could be preparing for his final season with the Buccaneers. Barber is entering the final year of his contract, but the team has not had any talks with him regarding an extension, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
Our View
Barber's five interceptions in 2005 were the second-highest total of his nine-year career. He is a valuable player in IDP leagues because of his great hands and his knack for finding the endzone following turnovers.

The News
The Seahawks are hopeful that safety Ken Hamlin will be medically cleared for contact at the start of training camp, according to ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli. He hasn't played since October due to head injuries suffered in a fight off the field.

Falcons: Duckett to Pittsburgh?
The News
Falcons running back T.J. Duckett remains on the Steelers' radar because of their concerns over the durability of Duce Staley, according to the Sporting News.
Our View
The Steelers are wise to worry about Staley's durability considering he's played only 15 games since arriving after the 2003 season. Duckett would be a logical choice to step in for the retired Jerome Bettis and could immediately fill the role Bettis left behind, which would give him fantasy value, especially in touchdown-heavy leagues. If Duckett does leave, it opens the door for talented rookie Jerious Norwood to become the primary backup to Warrick Dunn.

Panthers: Shelton may get cut
The News
The Panthers have an abundance of running backs on their roster and Eric Shelton, a second-round pick last year, is very much on the bubble and may not make the final roster, according to the Sporting News.
Our View
There have been rumblings out of Carolina since last season that Shelton has been a bust and the team would consider parting ways despite the high pick they spent to acquire him. He landed on the IR during the preseason as a rookie, which allowed them to put the decision off another year. The addition of DeAngelo Williams now has made Shelton even more expendable. Eric will have to prove he can be a Stephen Davis-like runner in short-yardage situations if he wants to be wearing teal and black in 2006.

Vikings: Johnson mum on contract
The News
Vikings quarterback Brad Johnson is declining comment on his contractual situation. The Star Tribune reports that Johnson is scheduled to make $1.2 million this season, which would make him the lowest paid starting quarterback in the league. In fact, projected backups such as Brian Griese, Josh McCown, and Joey Harrington are scheduled to earn more than Johnson this season.
Our View
The Vikings don't appear to be in any rush to give Johnson a raise. He is contractually locked in through 2008, but he was a backup when he inked the deal last year. Johnson isn't making holdout threats, but his contract status could become an issue with training camp approaching.

Packers rookie receiver Cory Rodgers was sentenced to 15 months probation for unlawfully carrying a firearm, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He was charged with firing two shots into the air outside a bar in May.

Redskins: Taylor sued for assault
The News
The legal troubles for Sean Taylor aren't over yet. The Redskins safety has been sued by a man involved in the alleged assault incident on June 1, 2005. Ryan Hill claims Taylor brandished a gun and repeatedly hit him. He filed the suit on June 27 in Miami Dade Circuit Court and is seeking $15,000 in damages. "Hill stole Sean's property. Hill baited him, lured him and suckered him into a fight," Taylor's attorney, Richard Sharpstein, told the Associated Press. This is the same incident in which Taylor had felony charges dropped and pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors last month.
Our View
Just when Taylor gets out, they pull him right back in. We don't know where this particular case will go or how it might affect Taylor's NFL schedule.

Broncos: Getting after the quarterback
The News
The Broncos are putting a defensive emphasis on rushing the passer in their final team camp this week. According to the Rocky Mountain News, head coach Mike Shanahan believes the team got too predictable with their blitzes last season and will have to rely more on their defensive line to pressure the quarterback.
Our View
Denver has lost their leading sack man in each of the last three seasons, but they do return three of their four starting defensive linemen. They also drafted NCAA sack leader Elvis Dumervil, who is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Broncos.

Cardinals: Watkins, Johnson agree to deals
The News
Rookie linebacker Brandon Johnson and wide receiver Todd Watkins agreed to three-year contracts with the Cardinals on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported.

Bears: Final two rookies signed
The News
The Bears reached contract agreements with the final two members of their rookie class on Wednesday night, signing cornerback Danieal Manning and defensive tackle Dustin Dvoracek. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, the Associated Press reported.
Our View
The Bears are the first team in the NFL to sign every one of their draft picks, something that was no doubt aided by the fact that none of their seven selections were taken in the first round. Though none of their rookies will be impact offensive players this season, both Manning and punt returner Devin Hester have the potential to further improve what is already the best defense in fantasy football.

Bills: Tight ends to be involved?
The News
A year after tight ends were accountable for just nine percent of the team's pass receptions, new offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild sent mixed signals about the position's role in this year's offense. "They'll be involved," Fairchild told buffalobills.com. "Obviously the degree depends on the guy who is in the lineup…A tight end is always going to have to block for the run game and the pass game. Beyond that, however athletic they are will determine how far we take it in the passing game."
Our View
This doesn't sound like good news for Robert Royal, Kevin Everett, and Brad Cieslak, the top three players on the tight end depth chart. Everett has great pass-catching pedigree but needs work as a blocker, Royal is a block-first tight end signed out of free agency this offseason, and Cieslak is an unheralded rookie who turned some heads in mini-camps. In theory, Everett is the best fantasy option for his athletic ability, but he's very raw and the fact that Fairchild used the tight end even less frequently than the Bills when he was running the show in St. Louis last year leaves little doubt that fantasy owners shouldn't give much value to any Bills tight ends.

Broncos: Lelie not expected for mini-camp
The News
Disgruntled wide receiver Ashley Lelie is not expected to be in attendance at a three-day, mandatory mini-camp that starts Thursday. "Nothing different," Lelie told the Rocky Mountain News. "My agent really doesn't want me to speak on the matter. But, yeah, nothing's changed."
Our View
Because this camp is mandatory, as opposed to some of the voluntary workouts Lelie skipped earlier, he can be fined for his absence. Evidently, the potential loss of $11,641 is not going to change Lelie's ridiculous stance that he deserves to be a No. 1 receiver. Meanwhile, the Broncos are busy praising Darius Watts for his re-emergence in the workouts Lelie has missed.

Packers: Jolly signed
The News
The Packers signed sixth-round draft pick Johnny Jolly on Friday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Vikings: Robinson denies relapse
The News
Wide receiver Koren Robinson denied he has had any alcohol-related problems recently and said he simply visited a rehab center to attend some relapse prevention classes. "People hear rehab and they say, 'Oh no, he has problems,"' Robinson told The Associated Press. "I'm not in rehab. I'm still doing good. I'm still not drinking."
Our View
Though Robinson certainly has had more than his share of off-the-field problems, he has bee a model citizen since joining the Vikings last fall so there's no reason to believe this will have any detrimental effect on his fantasy value.

Broncos: Sapp pushing Johnson
The News
Fullback Cecil Sapp took practice reps with the first team over last year's starter Kyle Johnson, the Rocky Mountain News reports. Johnson was second on the team with five receiving touchdowns last season.

Buccaneers: White to see time at tackle
The News
The Buccaneers are looking for ways to get defensive end Dewayne White more snaps and one plan is to let him get some time at defensive tackle, according to ESPN's Len Pasquarelli.

Broncos: Sauerbrun fails drug test
The News
Punter Todd Sauerbrun has tested positive for the supplement ephedra and will be suspended for four games by the league, a source told the Denver Post on Thursday. Sauerbrun is no stranger to breaking the rules, having been implicated in a steroid scandal in Carolina and arrested in 2004 for drunk driving.
Our View
If Sauerbrun is indeed unavailable for the first four games of the season, Denver will have to bring in veteran competition in training camp. The possibilities including former Bronco Micah Knorr, current kickoff specialist Paul Ernster, or free agents Kyle Richardson and Mark Royals.

July 7, 2006 12:38 PM ET
Broncos: Cobbs third on depth chart
The News
Former Patriots draft pick Cedric Cobbs spent last season on the Broncos' practice squad but comes into training camp third on the depth chart behind Ron Dayne and Tatum Bell. "Cedric is a guy that we felt very highly of coming out of Arkansas. We liked his running style," head coach Mike Shanahan told the Denver Post. "We felt very fortunate to get him on our football team when he was released. Now, he's competing for the starting jobs."
Our View
Ah, Shanny, you had to throw that last line in there just to play with our emotions. As the third-string back, Cobbs is in line for a heavy workload in the preseason. The way this backfield typically goes, he'll average 5.6 yards per carry, score two touchdowns per exhibition, and throw the fantasy world into a tizzy. Stay tuned.

Browns running back Reuben Droughns had his case continued to August 21 for a pretrial conference, according to the Denver Post. Droughns faces a count of third-degree assault, a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to two years in jail, and two counts of harassment, which carries a penalty of up to six months in the slammer for each count.
Our View
The legal system has a way of working around the schedule of professional athletes, so odds are this won't impact Droughns too much this season. However, if he is convicted, he may face a penalty from the league.

Broncos: Walker ahead of schedule
The News
Wide receiver Javon Walker is one step ahead of his expected rehabilitation schedule from knee surgery after nearly completing a full mini-camp workout with his teammates on Thursday. "Just to get out there today and run the routes and do what the coaches say, and go through the offense…that means I'm a little bit ahead," Walker said. "It was supposed to be training camp that I'm there running routes, but I'm running routes now. Once training camp comes around, we'll see from there. But I feel good."
Our View
According to the Post, Walker performed everything but running routes against pressure from defensive backs. Both he and head coach Mike Shanahan were thrilled with the outcome, but cautioned against pushing the former No. 1 draft pick too far too fast. The Walker watch continues.

Cowboys: James deal may come before camp
The News
Cowboys linebacker Bradie James is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season, but the team may look to sign him to a contract extension before the start of training camp on July 27, the team's official web site reported. James led the team in tackles last season.
Our View
The Cowboys are in a tough position with James. He was a bit of a disappointment in 2003 and 2004, but he stepped up last year when Dat Nguyen suffered injuries. The Cowboys have recently spent good money and high draft picks on linebackers Akin Ayodele, Bobby Carpenter, DeMarcus Ware, and Kevin Burnetts, and James may need to prove himself in the 3-4 again this year before the team keeps him around.

The News
Cowboys safety Roy Williams is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season, but the team may look to sign him to a contract extension before the start of training camp on July 27, the team's official web site reported.
Our View
Williams, 25, has appeared in three straight Pro Bowls and will likely command something close to the six-year, $40 million extension recently inked by Ravens safety Ed Reed. If Roy heads into the season without a deal, he could be spurred on to a huge campaign.

Vikings: Robinson back in rehab
The News
The agent who represents Vikings wide receiver Koren Robinson confirmed that his client has returned to an alcohol rehab facility. Agent Alvin Keels told ProFootballTalk.com that Robinson is visiting a facility on a voluntary basis and has not violated the league's substance abuse policy. "Most recovering alcoholics seek treatment through the years," Keels said. "He's just being more proactive than in the past." The Vikings declined to comment on the matter.
Our View
Robinson was suspended for four games in 2004 after violating the league's substance abuse policy. Another positive test would result in a one-year suspension. Given KoRo's long history of off-field incidents, fantasy owners would be wise to take his past struggles into account before selecting him on draft day.

Cowboys: Team may try to extend Witten before camp
The News
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season, but the team may look to sign him to a contract extension before the start of training camp on July 27, the team's official web site reported.
Our View
Witten is only 24 and has already made two trips to the Pro Bowl. In other words, he should command as much money as anyone at his position. For reference, Jeremy Shockey inked a five-year extension worth somewhere between $26 and $31.2 million last October. We haven't seen any signs that the unsettled situation will bother Witten.

The News
Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey will continue to wear the shoulder harness that helped protect a dislocated shoulder all of last season. Bailey told the Rocky Mountain News that surgery would not have tightened the joint and that he's working hard to strengthen the shoulder this offseason.
Our View
Bailey's hamstring injury was far more prohibitive last season, and yet through it all, Champ recorded a career-high eight interceptions (third in the NFL). If his subpar physical condition leads quarterbacks to throw his way more often, we're all for it.

Chiefs: Holmes still not cleared
The News
With just three weeks before Chiefs' training camp, running back Priest Holmes has still not been cleared for contact. ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli is reporting that Holmes will meet again with head and neck specialist Dr. Robert Watkins shortly before training camp opens July 27, but that Priest's offseason conditioning and weight lifting has been curtailed by the trauma that ended his season prematurely.
Our View
So not only has Holmes been prohibited from contact, but he's been limited in his non-contact training regiments as well. This news certainly doesn't change our pessimistic outlook on Priest's return. Dee Brown and Quentin Griffin remain the two primary reserves behind starter Larry Johnson.

The News

Broncos: Elam, Ernster may punt
The News
With Todd Sauerbrun likely suspended for four games, the Broncos may consider using place kicker Jason Elam and his backup Paul Ernster to cover punting and kickoffs. "I've punted with just about every NFL punter there is," Elam told the Rocky Mountain News. "I warm up right next to them on game days, so I know what I can do. And I'd welcome the chance. I'd love to see what I could do."
Our View
The Broncos likely don't want to risk injury to the aging Elam by putting him out there in punt formation. Ernster led the NCAA with a 48-yard punting average as a college senior, but he is coming off of ACL surgery. Expect Denver to scour the waiver wire for someone who can fill in for four games.

The News
Safety John Lynch believes the Broncos have the personnel to be the stingiest defense in the NFL. "I've been on a No. 1 defense before, and I think this team has the ability to do that this year," Lynch told the Denver Post.
Our View
To make good on Lynch's statement, Denver must improve against the pass. They gave up 228 yards per game through the air, 29th in the league, in part because they had to blitz a ton to compensate for a poor pass rush.

Cardinals: Lutui signs
The News
Offensive lineman Deuce Lutui signed a four-year contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, the Associated Press reported.
Our View
Lutui was the Cardinals' second-round pick in April's draft. He played both right tackle and left guard at USC, where he helped pave the way for Reggie Bush and LenDale White the last two years. He is expected to push for a starting job somewhere along the offensive line during training camp.

Broncos: Bell bulking up
The News
Mike Shanahan has told Tatum Bell that he needs to bulk up in preparation for the upcoming season. Shanahan loves Bell's 5.3 yard average, but is not happy with Tatum's inability to convert in short yardage situations. ESPN's John Clayton is reporting that Bell has risen to the challenge and is lifting weights diligently in an effort to cement himself as the Bronco's number one back.
Our View
Ron Dayne took more reps with the first team during their recent minicamp, but it appears like this could be a classic motivational move by Master Shanahan. Bell certainly has the explosiveness that traditionally marks successful backs in Denver, and if he can truly earn the solo spot he could rise up the rankings quite quickly. At this point it still appears that Dayne will be involved, but seeing Bell make added efforts is a very encouraging sign for fantasy owners.

Rams: Bennett on radar
The News
With Marshall Faulk now retiring, the Rams appear to have Michael Bennett in mind to back up Steven Jackson. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Rams will acquire Michael Bennett from New Orleans at some point before camp to serve as the number two back in St. Louis. Bennett is currently buried on the Saints depth chart and has been the subject of many trade rumors since New Orleans drafted Reggie Bush in April's NFL Draft.
Our View
Bennett is a nice fit in the big-play offense Scott Linehan plans to put together with the Rams. While Jackson still remains the unquestioned starter, Michael Bennett is a worthy handcuff to all Jackson owners. Bennett's fantasy value takes a nice step forward, but will likely remain little more than a reserve unless Jackson was to get injured.

Rams: Faulk calling it quits?
The News
Marshall Faulk's career appears to be over. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Rams are expected to place Faulk (knees) on the injured reserve, which likely means that retirement is immanent for Faulk. Faulk has suffered from various knee problems for years and has seen Steven Jackson supplant him in the starting lineup now for good. Faulk is currently nineth on the NFL's all-time rushing list.
Our View
It's always too bad to see a former fantasy stud like Faulk being put out to pasture. It's just another reminder how blindingly quick the careers of NFL running backs are. Just a few short years ago Marshall was the consensus number one player in all fantasy formats, and now he is forced out of the game he has given his body for.

Packers: Culver agrees to terms
The News
The Packers signed sixth-round draft pick Tyron Culver on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not released, according to the Associated Press.
Our View
Culver played safety at Fresno State and could compete for a nickel back position during training camp, though he is not expected to challenge for a starting job. He is the third of 12 Packers draft picks to agree to a contract.

Panthers: Sign center
The News
The Panthers reached an agreement with seventh-round pick center Will Montgomery from Virginia Tech. Montgomery agreed to a three-year deal, which is what all of the team's middle and lower round picks are expected to receive. Negotiations with top pick DeAngelo Williams will likely take longer.
Our View
It's nice to see the Panthers continue to place an emphasis on the running game. Both DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams make intriguing fantasy plays this season, but their individual values are greatly increased in a handcuff type situation. The Panthers need to improve their rushing attack; they average only 104.9 yards per game on the ground in 2005.

Falcons: Crumpler underwent surgery in February
The News
Falcons tight end Alge Crumpler underwent surgery on the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder in February, general manager Rich McKay told Tuesday's edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I don't see there being any problem," he told the paper. "I'm sure we'll bring him along at the right pace. We'll watch him, but he'll be OK." This is the first report of this surgery.
Our View
It appears the Falcons are taking a page out of the Patriots playbook by keeping injuries and surgeries a secret for as long as possible. Crumpler is expected to participate in training camp, but he may be limited in preseason games and practices. Of course, that came from the Falcons themselves, who have less than totally honest up to this point.

Jets: Ramsey gets contract extension
The News
The Jets have given quarterback Patrick Ramsey a one-year contract extension, according ot the New York Daily News. Ramsey, acquired this offseason from the Redskins, got a $2.1 million extension that will keep him in New York through the 2007 season. The deal includes a reported $1.4 million roster bonus payable in March of 2007.
Our View
This is an interesting move by the Jets. Ramsey was brought as both competition and an insurance policy for Chad Pennington, who is attempting to come back from multiple shoulder surgeries. Ramsey would have been an unrestricted free agent after this season, and the Daily News reports he may have exchanged the opportunity to hit the market in a year for the stability of a two-year deal because of fears he might not even make the team after a disappointing showing at the team's most recent mini-camp. Whatever the case, both Ramsey and Pennington are due significant roster bonuses next March, which means it's highly likely only one will stick around past this season. Even then, the Jets hope either player would be nothing more than a stopgap until draft pick Kellen Clemens is ready to take over the job.

Bills: McGahee hoping for more touches
The News
Willis McGahee wasn't happy with last year's offense, particularly head coach Mike Mularkey's penchant for removing him in third down situations inside the red zone. "Last year the offense [stunk]," McGahee told the Bills official website. "It [stunk]. This year we have new coaches and now everything is different…Put the ball in 21's hands and I'm good for five yards a catch. I'd love to be part of the passing game and show the other side of my football skills."
Our View
The Bills ranked 30th in red zone touchdown percentage in 2005 and hope new offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild can turn things around. One of his stated goals is to get McGahee the ball more via the passing game. Of course, it's easy to say this in July, and the personnel on the field – mainly a highly suspect offensive line – will have to prove it can execute well enough to carry out the plans. In any case, it at least appears McGahee will be more of a focal point in the red zone, where he made a nice living in college and in his first full season as an NFLer in 2004.

Eagles: Pinkston, Gaffney to battle
The News
The Eagles' official team website reports that wide receivers Todd Pinkston and Jabar Gaffney will be competing in training camp for the No. 2 receiving job opposite second-year man Reggie Brown. Gaffney is the more physical receiver, while Pinkston is the better downfield threat due to his speed.
Our View
Pinkston is also recovering from a ruptured Achilles' and has been limited in mini-camps. He's expected to be 100 percent for training camp at the end of the month. Of course, we've seen what Todd brings to the table as a starter in Philly, so we wouldn't mind seeing Gaffney get an opportunity in a new system.

Giants: Strahan feeling Super
The News
Citing the acquisition of linebacker LaVar Arrington and the development of quarterback Eli Manning, defensive end Michael Strahan has high expectations for the Giants this season. "I don't think anybody's going into this season thinking that this is not a Super Bowl year for us," he told the New York Daily News at his charity golf event. "We go into every year thinking that, but I definitely think right now we really have the talent to do it."
Our View
You have to love NFL summers. If every self-prognosticator at every charity golf event is to be believed, 19 teams will be playing in the Super Bowl.

Saints: Dome repairs on schedule
The News
Saints officials remain confident that repairs to the Superdome roof will be completed in time for the team's first home game in week three. The $185.4 million repair job is believed to be the largest roofing restoration project in history, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Our View
Hurricane Katrina prevented the Saints from playing at home last year, so it will be quite the homecoming when they host the Falcons in week three.

Eagles: Bloom close to deal
The News
The Eagles are close to signing fifth-round draft pick Jeremy Bloom, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. A deal with the wideout, return specialist, and two-time U.S. Olympic skier may be announced as early as Tuesday.
Our View
Bloom hasn't played organized football in two years and already has a hamstring injury in his injury log. At best, he projects as a special teams ace.

Rams: Decision on Faulk's future near
The News
Rams running back Marshall Faulk will likely make a decision about if he wants to continue his career within the next 10 days, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He has been recovering from offseason knee surgery, but one knee has not recovered well and may need another surgery. "He's going to be evaluated again, and that's when the decision will be made," Faulk's agent, Rocky Arceneaux, told the paper.
Our View
If Faulk has to go under the knife again, it will be the final nail in the coffin of his illustrious career. His current fantasy value is minimal as the backup to Steven Jackson, and that role would likely fall to Tony Fisher if Faulk hangs up the cleats.

Bears: Urlacher granted visitation
The News
Brian Urlacher was granted permission to have overnight visits with his one-year-old son born out of wedlock, the Chicago Tribune reports. Urlacher is seeking partial or full custody of the child in a trial slated to open in the middle of the upcoming NFL season.
Our View
Not to belittle Urlacher's personal life, but as far as we're concerned, training camp can't get here soon enough. We're ready for some football.

The News
The Browns re-signed kick returner Joshua Cribbs to a one-year contract on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Cowboys: Parcells praises Barber
The News
Third-year running back Julius Jones remains atop the backfield depth chart, but there's little question that backup Marion Barber is pushing his teammate. "I like Barber a lot," head coach Bill Parcells told the team's official website. "He doesn't have great speed, but he's a very, very good blocker, he's a very, very good receiver, and he has very good vision as a runner. He's just not a breakaway guy. But I think his role will be expanded."
Our View
We think what Parcells is trying to say here is that Barber is "very go
