CHARLESTON, WV (June 14, 2005) - Minor League Baseball has reported that over 13 million fans attended minor league baseball games over the first two months of the 2005 season, marking the first time in history over 13 million fans have attended games through April and May.
The West Virginia Power completed the first half of their 2005 home schedule, their first at Appalachian Power Park, on Tuesday, June 14. The Power has played a large role in the minor league attendance increase, nearly matching last year's total attendance of 125,979. Through 34 games 123,000 fans have already enjoyed Power baseball at Appalachian Power Park, an average of 3,600 fans per game. The Power are currently on pace to smash the all time attendance record in the area, set back in 1991 when the Wheelers drew 185,389 fans to Watt Powell Park the season after they won the Championship.
Minor league baseball's two month total is 13,203,740 fans for the 176 teams in 11 leagues. It is the first time that April-May attendance has ever exceeded 13-million. The total represents a 378,823 (3%) increase over the 2004 season when the full-season leagues attracted 12,824,917 fans by the end of May on their way to a season total of 39,887,755 fans, an all-time record total for the industry.
