In what may have been the worst kept secret in Chicago media, the White Sox announced that thtey are leaving ESPN 1000 at the end of the season and will move thier games to WSCR 670 The Score beginning in 2006.
The move was announced by Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf this morning on The Mike North Morning Show.It is a 5-year deal that will make The Score the new flagship station. They will carry all 162 games, plus 15 Spring Training games.
John Rooney and Ed Farmer will continue to be the radio voices when the Sox move to The Score next season.

The point is Reinsdorf wants to change radio stations is because ESPN Radio 1000 does not want to drink his Kool-Aid and the fact the station has been very criticial about him never mind they are telling the truth so Reinsdorf is taking his ball and going home. Reinsdorf had an incident with Jay Mariotti at that station where Mariotti was told to stop ripping him and the White Sox on 1000. It was simply ugly. No big lost for 1000 ESPN Radio.

Reinsdorf wanted to leave ESPN 1000 long before the Mariotti fiasco.
Not to mention the fact that that stations ratings are in the crapper, and have been since Day 1.
The real big winners will be those listeners in Chicago's western suburbs, where they will be able to actually listen to the games at nighttime.ESPN 1000's signal barely reached places like Aurora and Naperville after sundown, while the Northeast US got to pick it up with no problem.

It was not only Mariotti that ripped the Sox. Harry, Jurko, and Mac ripped them too.
1000 ESPN Radio in Chicago does not talk sports from the time I listen to them. It seems that 1000 ESPN Radio has the same problems 1050 ESPN Radio in NYC has. Not many viewers and lack of signal. I don't get 1050 at nights here. Plus 1050 has awful hosts. They just hired Stephen A. Smith to do a afternoon show. He is really good. Here's hoping 1050 moved him up to drivetime. He is much better to listen than Michael Kay and Mike and the Mad Dog.

I really don't have a reply for that only because I rarely listen to Mac,Jurko, and Harry. Not because I don't like them, mind you.But usually by that time,I'm usually wiped out on sports radio,or if the Cubs are on the radio at the time.
But I believe you on that one Timberwolf. Funny thing is,Dan McNeill is the die-hard Sox fan there. The other 2 are die-hard Cub fans.
I've always been a fan of Harry though. He was hysterical when he did sports when Danny Bonaduce was on the radio in Chicago about 10 years ago.Harry once tried to fix me up with one of the Luv-A-Bulls during the 1998 NBA Finals. :laff:

maybe theres a reason why the sox ratings are in the crapper? ESPN radio 1000's ratings are the best in the key category: 25-54 year olds.
