Word is it will be announced this week, from a reliable source on the Sun board. This guy predicted and gave details on the MLB/Angelos deal right before it happened. Not sure if I am happy with it or not.

I could not open the article. The Sun said that the article could not be located. Do you recall the trade specifics?

Lumber, you might be able to get to it by going to the Baltimore Sun website.......... www.sunspot.net........ click on Sports, then Orioles, click on one of the articles, and, in a sidebar, there's a link called "Talk About It". It's the Sun's message board. About halfway down the page of the message board there's the Pettitte thread. It's about 4 pages long, I think.

From reading it, this guy who posted it....... Ollie....... seems to have a "source". I'm usually leery about stuff like this, but the thing OF23 mentioned, the broadcasting deal with Angelos, was apparently predicted by this guy, according to his "source", so .......... your guess is as good as mine as to whether this really is true.

We shall see.

I'd like to see it happen, naturally. Having a guy like Pettitte in the O's rotation?!?!? Hell yeah!!

I'm usually leery about stuff like this...The old REO Speedwagon song comes to mind: "Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another..." :)

If the deal was for Gibbons and Julio, as I "heard," and if Houston didn't have to assume ANY part of Pettitte's remaining contract, it wouldn't bother me too much even though it would really weaken Houston's starting rotation. We've been having trouble finding a fifth starter this season, so I can only imagine the results from going 6-deep on our list.

But I don't see Pettitte being moved, at least right now. Here's a story from the team's MLB.com site that would suggest Pettitte is not being considered as trade bait currently:

Jim Molony / MLB.com (http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050621&content_id=1098912&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou)
Which means you can forget the rumors of any of the veteran pitchers being moved.

The Astros are not interested in dealing any of their key veterans. In fact, pitchers Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Roy Oswalt and outfielder/first baseman Lance Berkman are virtually untouchable. So is Jeff Bagwell, who is out until September after undergoing shoulder surgery last week.

I don't actually see this happening, either, for exactly the reasons quoted in that article.

I usually wait until the signatures are on paper before I believe anything. :D

It won't happen. Remember, the Astro were dead in the water during this time last year, too. They made it all the way to NLCS though, because they didn't jump ship too soon. They don't want to start rebuilding too soon. They'll be keeping all these veterans around. Clemens doesn't want to move and I doubt Pettite is moving.

Though, if I believe this to be true, then it would really make the O's really strong in the starting pitching, which they really could use with Bedard out and the rest of the staff, beside Lopez, pitching poorly.
