Yes, I am quite aware of this fact, and very sympathetic. I have a couple of friends that are being supported by friends because they've been unable to find suitable work for several years. And I once helped to support a friend in a similar situation.

But there is nobody in our Addicts community that falls into that category (as far as I know). If there had been, I would never have posted remarks that could be construed as insensitive in that particular situation. So I therefore consider your arguement moot as it relates to this board. And that's all I'm saying on this subject.

There's one right here that could definately use help but is too proud and subborn to ask for it. Car payments of 400/month, insurance of 370/month, student loan payments of 400/month plus gas, phone and internet bills... thank God I don't have to pay rent. I just keep sinking deeper and deeper into over draft :( Plus my parents gave me 2 years after college to live rent free, my 2 years are up June 11th 2006. Dunno what I'm gonna do then.

As for working long hours don't forget there was a time not long ago when I was working from 5 30am - 11pm monday - friday and still pulling shifts on the weekends. I had an hour inbetween jobs to get something to eat and get to the second job with a 45 minute travel between job one and two.

I also am legally disabled, however I can not live off of what the government has offered to pay me, therefore I go out and work. I have had 4 major hip surguries and a knee surgury. In the next year or so I am going to have to get my hips replaced because the bone is turning to dust ie, if I wait to long I won't have any bone left. Everyday is a new experience in pain, everyday. There is not a day that goes by that it doesn't hurt and I wish I could just go home and lay in bed. But I do it for 2 reasons, 1 I need the money and 2 once you meet the people that I work with, ya just can't live without them. My job is hard on me physically, but emotionally makes me rich and that's what keeps me going.

You know going to work isn't fun, i mean weather or not you enjoy your job sometimes you just dont want to. Evryone does and everyone is allowed to complain about it every now again, jsut like everyone is alllowed to have a bad day. My mom was unemployed for six months and sent out ove 75 resumes only to hear fom one company beore she decided to take a civil service exam and get a job as a librarian in a middle school. she hates going to work but she knows she has to, and the only time she complains is when some stupid 6-8th grader disrespects her. so honestly, we all do what we have to. some of us are lucky some of us have to work our asses off. so, good luck to all thoes who work everyday, and congrats for doing it, and congrats again to all thoes who do what they have to do. its life, and if someone wants to express how they feel casue they feel like *****ing that day so be it. we all do.

this is a free forum isn't it? people can post [apart from spam] anything they want.

i think the old rule applies here, as it applies pretty much everywhere: IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO DAY, THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL! Just ignore it...it's not that hard.

PirateNut
07-01-2005, 04:52 PM
What's with the hostility?

I don't know why Robin deserves the rant directed toward her from her original post. It simply states that she is off to work at her new job. This is a common thread subject but never before have I seen such hostility to a such a statement.

metmagic

metmagic: I can assure you my anger is very well directed. There's nothing misdirected about it.

PirateNut: My comments are in response to her whole attitude about her job situation. And while posting about a new job may be a common thread, most people are happy about landing a new job after being out of work.

Datch: Yes, this is a free forum. She's free to post whatever she wants and I'm free to take offense to it and say so.

Hmmmm............ where do I start?

First off, I think personal vendettas should be taken elsewhere.

But, that's just me.

Second of all, congrats on your new job, Robin. I haven't been around the Dugout lately, as I barely have time to post in the Orioles forum........ that work thing......:D......... so I wasn't even aware you had a new job! Hope it's going well!

And, you're right........ it's an open forum, so anyone should be allowed to post what they want.......... their fears, their joys........whatever! :)

So, if someone comes right out and attacks someone, they should also not be surprised if it starts a whole snowball thing of being attacked back.

Oh, those snowballs............. huge, big things, with people just adding on comments and attacking, attacking, attacking.

Lovely, isn't it.

And.......... hmmm......... I sure could use a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

First off Nanner, this isn't a personal vendetta. I took offense to what she said and responded to it.

Second, I don't consider myself under attack, you all disagree fine. I'll sleep just fine tonight.

Third, metmagic, you don't know the first thing about me or my moods. Or what happens if I'm in a bad one.

Now...have a lovely night ladies and gentlemen

I did a play up at Lake George for almost 5 months. During the run, our housing was the bottom half of an old house with a porch!

It was wonderful on Sunday mornings to take my breakfast out there and sit with my coffee and the Sunday papers, listening to the quiet.

We've got no porch, but two decks. It's 102° on the smaller back deck right now, and only 99° on the front deck in the shade. You need a bottomless pitcher of frozen margaritas instead of a PB&J to have any fun on either one of them right now! :)

we have a nice deck in the backyard but nothing beats a porch :sun: the front of the house is definitely NOT a porch, just some steps (i'll take a picture and post it when i find the digital camera)

You can do more things at 3am on the strip than most people could do all day.
You can eat at a buffet at 3am.

You do A LOT of Walking.

Drunk walking.

But walking.

But you replace the food calories with alcohol calories. I wasn't w/o a drink in my hand. I looked like a female Dean Martin.

The air quality was actually BAD while I was there due to smoke from desert wild fires outside Vegas and desert dust. You could hardly see the mountains. AND because the humidity is about 5% (and that's HIGH for them) people with arthritis feel 100% better. A lot of old folks retire there.

Yea but see...in Vegas you can drink on the street. So if you have a drink or a beer and want to leave and go to another casino...you pick it up....carry it with you. It's great.

At Treasure Island when they had the old Pirates show outside, they used to sell these HUGE drinks in these glass skull mugs. The glass alone weighed 10 pounds....add a frozen drink it weighed 15 pounds....walk down the strip with that sucka and you had to stop every 6 feet to rest your drink...
