FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ Scott Erickson scattered eight hits over six innings and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers 8-1 Sunday for their ninth victory in 10 games.

Erickson allowed a leadoff home run to Jason Romano in the first inning, and pitched out of trouble for the first four. Erickson took advantage of two double plays, an inning-ending caught stealing in the third and picked off Mike Lamb with one out in the fifth and runners on first and second.

Marty Cordova had two doubles for the Orioles, and now has a team-high five extra-base hits this spring.

Rafael Palmeiro, Mike Lamb and Ed Sprague had two hits each for Texas, which has lost three straight.

Hideki Irabu (3-1) lost for the fist time in four starts. Irabu allowed three hits and two runs, walked two and struck out one in five innings.

Erickson (2-0), the Orioles' likely opening day starter after missing last season following ligament replacement surgery, walked one and struck out six.

Romano hit a 1-2 pitch for his second home run of the spring. The Orioles tied the game when Cordova's one-out double scored Jeff Conine, who led off the second with a ground-rule double over the fence in center field.

In the fifth, Larry Bigbie drew a walk, went to third on Geromimo Gil's single to right and scored on Jerry Hairston's sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead.

Steve Woodward relieved Irabu, but gave up four runs in two innings. Mike Bordick greeted Woodward with a triple to left-center in the sixth and scored on Conine's grounder. (yikes... :uhoh: )

Before Woodward departed, the Orioles added runs on an error by left fielder Doug Garcia, Mike Moriarty's steal of home on a delayed double steal and Woodward's balk for a 6-1 lead.
