View Full Version : Wells vs Redding

Wells has pitched 2 solid innings, hopefully he keeps it up. As for Redding he's throwing too many balls and has no control at all.
He lasted 1 inning allowed 4 hits 3 runs and walked 4. D.MAy has just replaced him. Redding has left the inning with the bases juiced for Big Pappi.

Wells: 2IP 0H 0ER 0BB 2K 4.89era

They have a huge problem in pitching. If you think Boston's pitching is bad.......

Riviera's their best pitcher.

Good thing 17-1 only counts as one loss, according to Mets fans around me, 17-1 is different then 2-1 when it counts in the standings.

That was a massacre. I didn't even get to see today's game...I had a doubleheader..

Ok, the Mets lost 2-1 to the Braves and the Yankees lost 17-1 to the Red Sox. My friends that are Met fans act as if it's a huge deal that the Yankees lost by 16. But as far as I'm concerned, they both count as one loss, if you lose by 16 or by 1 like the Mets did.

Cyberlibrarian

Here's the deal Royce.

Mets fans never expected to win much this year. If the team finishes the season within a game or so of .500 we'll be happy. If that game or so is above .500, we'll be delirious.

The Yankees, however, are a different story that CANNOT be compared with the Mets, or anyone else, for that matter. When the Yankees win, it's not that big a deal because we all go into each season expecting them to win. When they lose however, it is a big deal because watching a $200+ million dollar payroll flounder is pretty damned funny. I just heard someone on 1050 trying to make a case for the Yankees signing Hideo Nomo. What's next? Calling in random fans from the stands?

You can't possibly tell me you wouldn't laugh if the tables were turned and all this stuff were happening to the Sox or the Mets.

Royce

Yes, it is a big deal when a $+200 million payroll loses, but the season isn't over yet, and it was just one game. I'm not the kind of fan that roots against other teams, unless it helps my team out. I actually find baseball more fun when the Mets are a competitive team, like when the subway world series came to town, New York was a baseball heaven. All of the fans were so into the game. Everyone was wearing their team's hat. Sure, I don't want the Mets to be better then the Yankees, but I could really careless what they do, them being in the NL and all, it doesn't really effect the Yankees except for in the Subway Series.

1 New York Yankees $208,306,817
2 Boston Red Sox $123,505,125
3 New York Mets $101,305,821

I mean the Yankees are way over the top, but the Mets are up their too. The team that's winning your division is ranked 23rd in payroll, proving money doesn't be a world series.

23 Washington Nationals $48,581,500

:laff: that kinda stuff cracks me up everytime...here we've got the yankees, the redsox, the mets, etc. up over $100, and then the nationals are leading their division, the Marlins win the world series, and angels win the world series, etc. That's what makes baseball fun...I love watching the little guy win. that is unless it's against the sox of course :D

The Nationals aren't going to be in first much longer. The Braves are getting their "real" players back and will take over that division sooner rather than later.

I've never said the Mets weren't spending a lot of money. I did, however, say that the Mets have lower expectations than the Yankees do. Nobody in Metland expects to win the WS this year. As I said, if the team is at .500 or better there'll be dancing in the streets. Yankee fans expect to win it EVERY year and, when they don't, the rest of us find watching them crash and burn rather amusing. Much of the amusement is because of the way the average 96'er has treated the rest of us all season long.

but doesn't that concern you just a little bit? that you had low expectations and the mets's payroll was still 3rd in the MLB...? I mean, it's not like you're rebuilding or anything...

The Mets ARE rebuilding. They have kids at SS and 3B, kids in the bullpen, and will be dumping some veterans either in the next 2 weeks or at year's end.
