Many sites have been saying that He WILL be traded to Boston within the week. Than Theo says that there's no truth, but everyone's saying he's going to be traded to Boston. What's up with that?

He got hammered last night in Philadelphia.
I still keep hearing rumors he's going to Baltimore.
And I don't understand why the Sox would be willing to trade young talent for this guy. He's always injured and very inconsistent.

The Baltimore Sun's Roch Kubatko is reporting the race to acquire Florida Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett could be down to two teams, the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox, according to an industry source. The Red Sox are offering SP Bronson Arroyo and prospects for Burnett, according to the source. The Orioles are willing to part with RP Jorge Julio, OF Larry Bigbie and minor-league SP Hayden Penn, and have discussed an expanded package that includes RP Steve Kline and Marlins 3B Mike Lowell.

I don't really like Burnett. As you've said, he's very inconsistent and injured often.

Maybe he just needs a new team?

a new team doesnt help your health. He has bad mechanics, he walks a ton of people, and he is more fragile than kerry wood. not exactly a good combination.

Besides his status, can anyone confirm that Burnett heading to Boston for sure is true? I know its a battle between Baltimore and Boston, but there are sites that are saying that he's heading to Boston for sure.

The Red Sox should go after Billy Wagner instead.

He's a free agent after this season no?

Both Burnett and Wagner will be free agents after the season.

I guess I am the only one that pretty much disagrees with almost everything written about him, excluding the injuries....
He missed a lot of time in 2003 and 2004 due to injuries but before that he really didnt and he has been fine this year... But 2 of the last 3 years, yes, he has been injured a lot...
He is among the leaders in K's, and he really doesnt walk that many batters compared to anyone else.. His WHIP is good and yes he got hit hard last night, which raised his era to 3.64...
The only reason he is 5-6 is because the Marlins dont score a ton of runs for him...
4 of his 6 losses he gave up 3 runs or less and the Marlins and 4 games the Marlins scored 2 or less runs....
I think he would be a good pickup for the Sox...JMO:)
Of course I think Wagner would be a much better pickup;)

Burnett is a flame thrower and he has great stuff. He had to have arm surgery and has missed a lot of time, but he appears to be fine since he has logged more starts this year than any past year. I think his health isn't that much of a concern. Also, so what if we trade some young talent? Prospects often are there to be traded, the only untouchables in the sox farm system, to me, are pedroia papelbon and manny delcarmen. Outside of them I'd be willing to deal anyone. I'd need a lot for Jon Lester and Hanley, but A.J. Burnett for Hanley and Arroyo would suit me fine.
Imagine if wells gets on track, and saturday was just a small hiccup for clement and he continues to pitch well. We could have three excellent pitchers at the top of the rotation in burnett clement and wells followed up with miller and wake or probably eventually schilling. That is a solid playoff rotation.
I'm not high on giving up Arroyo for Burnett. While I'm a big fan of Burnett and think he would be a good addition to the team. Giving up Arroyo is asking a bit too much. I just think Arroyo is going to break though at some point. He showed what kind of stuff he can have earlier in the season. So, I'm not willing to give up on him.
Not taking a thing away from Burnett. Burnett would have a much better record if he wasn't on the Marlins. Marlins have been such a disappointment this season with such great starting pitching. They spoiled a lot of good Burnett's starts, so going to a team that will give him good run support will help him.
Burnett's 3.64 ERA is better than any Red Sox starter. :)
I assume the Red Sox will do what the White Sox did with Garcia last year. Sign Burnett to for more years like the White Sox did a couple of days after they got Garcia from Seattle.
Though, Wagner would answer our biggest problem. The bullpen. Just need the Phillies to completely die from the race.

I don't think Burnett would fare any better in the AL East than Pavano. No thanx.
Straight up for Arroyo, sure, but nothing else. We aren't going anywhere this year, it would be stupid to give up prospects.

We're only a half game out. The Yankee starting rotation is still a mess. Beside Gordon, Rivera and Sturze, the Yankee got nothing else. So, not sure how done we are... :hmm:
Pavano was meh. Burnett has good stuff and he's good pitcher, but injury has plagued. He could handle the AL much better than Pavano, but don't expect an ERA of 2 or lower if he did come to AL. He's better suited for Baltimore, who's dying for pitching. Big time relief came for Baltimore came when Bedard came back today and dazzled, but didn't get the win.

Burnett is filthy and just doesnt get the run support, as already stated. I agree that we should not give up Arroyo for him, but I disagree with doubters who say he couldn't cut it. He is a complete-game pitcher, and with an ERA around 3, the Sox bats could keep him cushioned with a lead and keep our bullpen in the pen.
that said, I dont think we'll get Burnett or Wagner. I'd love to have either, or even both, but the price would be too high. We finally have a strong crop of prospects budding and I'd hate to see them traded so soon for a part-time fix. It's like trading in your splint for a band-aid. Why give up your future foundation for a temporary answer to stop the bleeding?

he cant cut it. he is oftinjured. his stuff is good, but he has never put it together. His home/road splits arent that good. Put him in a hitters park like fenway or camden and you will not be seeing a 3.64 ERA. and his whip isnt all THAT good. 1.26 isnt something to be proud of.
not to mention he has had only one year where he started 29 games.

Would Burnett really be that much of an improvement over Arroyo? I dont think so.

Same guy. For a hell of a lot more money.

Yeah, Burnett wants $9-$10 a year for five years. $50 million investment for a career sub-.500 guy? Yeah, right. If we wanted someone like that for that kind of money, we would have kept Derek Lowe.

Pavano, Burnett, take these dudes out of that pitcher's park, and they crumble.
