Chacon sent to Yanks for two pitchers
Rockies receive Minor League righties Ramirez, Sierra

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies sent right-handed pitcher Shawn Chacon to the New York Yankees on Thursday night for a pair of Minor League pitchers.

The Rockies will get right-handed pitchers Ramon Ramirez and Eduardo Sierra, both of whom have been assigned to Double-A Tulsa.

Ramirez, 23, has split the season between Triple-A Columbus (1-3, 5.33 ERA in six starts) and Double-A Trenton (6-5, 3.84 ERA in 15 starts). Sierra, 23, is 3-1 with a 3.28 ERA and two saves in 33 relief appearances at Trenton.

Chacon, 27, a second-round draft choice in 1996 and the first player the Rockies had drafted from a Colorado high school (Greeley Central), had been the Rockies' hard-luck pitcher this season, going 1-7 but with a 4.09 ERA -- strong considering he pitches at Coors Field. He has given up three or fewer runs in nine of his 12 starts, but is 0-7 in his last 10 starts.

Chacon would be fitted into the Yankees' injury-depleted starting rotation on Saturday, because right-hander Kevin Brown was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday (retroactive to Sunday).

Chacon had been slated to start for the Rockies on Friday against Philadelphia. Right-hander Jose Acevedo (2-0, 4.05 ERA) will take Chacon's place.

I like this move. Low risk, and possibly a high reward :). He's better than Leiter and Nomo that's for sure.

The Yankees are trying their best getting pitchers. Brown, Wright, and Pavano out with injuries.

With Leiter, Nomo and Chacon, its better than nothing!

Well, he was pitching in Coors Field, so you might have a decent pitcher here. Not a difference maker, but really could help that cripple rotation. Chacon hasn't been much since he was 11 and something before the All-Star game a few years back. I wouldn't say he's garbage either. He looked pretty good today against a good offense team in the Angels. Hey, he's probably better than Jaret Wright. :)

Well, I'm glad he's clean shaven. He looks a lot better, I almost didn't recognize him.

Chacon is a very solid pitcher. If he is healthy. Remember when he was starting two years ago he was a leading guy to start the NL all star team. This guy can pitch but he also gets hurt a lot.

If he can stay healthy the Yankees have a very good pitcher I feel. He can throw a hook that is outstanding even in Coors but he also is a Colorado boy also so he always knew how to pitch there.

Shaq will do good for the Yankees.

Well you've got to give the guy a chance, he has got great ability and has proven it against the Angels in his 1st game as a Yankee, but I think his ERA will tumble down as he is in a less-notorious hitters Ball Park and he'll get a few more wins as a Yankee before the seasons out, and hopefully gets a few games in the post season. ( if we get there)
But hopefully he will hold the rotation together so Brown Wright and Pavano can mend themselves, hopefully the injured will be back to cap off the season for the Yanks, and maybe even into the post season as well!!!
