View Full Version : What, no D-Ray in tonight's game?

... I thought that when Greg Vaughn withdrew, Fred McGriff would be the likely replacement. He is hitting a robust .330 and has 15 HR's and 53 RBI... I think that it is a shame that a D-Ray wasn't chosen to replace the only D-Ray representitive in the game. It isn't like choosing McGriff would have meant taking somebody with poor numbers, heck he is outhitting alot of the guys chosen to go. Isn't MLB supposed to have one player from each team in the game?

What is your opinion on this one?

Was this decision not to have a Dray on the team up to Torre? I also thought each team had to have a rep. I went back to look at the voting #s, and Mike Cameron (who replaced Vaughn) was 4th in AL outfielders.

The Crime Dog seems to be a logical choice. Maybe he was busy making more Tom Emanski videos? J/K

Agreed!!
I thought the Crime Dog should have been chosen over Vaughn anyway...I guess it had to do with him playing 1st base...
McGriff is having a very good year...
Baseball is bad enough in Tampa, this doesn't help as any D-Ray fans have no one to cheer for:ohno:

Oh well, it was a nice thought. It appears that McGriff may not be a Dray come Thursday anyway...he may be Chicago bound...

i honstely thought that mcgriff should have made it in the beginning over vaughn. Mcgfriff is having a great season on a REALLY bad team...

But when vaughn went down, it should have gone to mcgriff.

I had justread the article posted by rockiebill before i came here. Hopefully Mcgriff waives his no-trade clause.

In his last 60 games, the Crime Dog has hit .367 (76/207) has 13 HR's and 44 RBI. He is on pace to drive in over 100 runs for the 7th or 8th time, I forget which, in his career. Since his rookie year of less than 300 AB's, he has driven in at least 81 runs every year of his ML career! In those 13 seasons, 10 times he has driven in over 90 runs... soon Fred will get his 500th HR. This guy is fairly underappreciated, in my book.

Even if all he has to offer the Cubbies is a couple of seasons, it will be enough to help in the transition from him to Hee Seop Choi as the future first baseman. It is really the kind of move I had in mind when I lobbied for David Segui to be signed in the off-season to a 2-3 year contract for the Pirates...

Actually, I only keep track of who is appreciated and who isn't... kind of an accounting thing. Books don't appreciate people, people appreciate people...

... are the luckiest people, in the world!

Where was I? Oh yeah... McGriff is toiling in obscurity while in T-Bay... his numbers are pretty much unchanged from his days in Atlanta, he is just so far out of the spotlight, nobody realizes that he is still getting it done...

Hmmm, not so fast....It seems that McGriff will not waive his no-trade clause as he is very happy in Tampa and wants to keep his family in the area....His mom lives there and his father passed away recently....He reportedly was on the plane to Montreal with Tampa....
