Giants designate Sanchez for assignment

ATLANTA (AP) - San Francisco outfielder Alex Sanchez, the first major leaguer suspended for failing a steroids test, was designated for assignment Tuesday.

He had been on the disabled list since July 24 with a sprained left elbow.

While with Tampa Bay, Sanchez was suspended 10 days after becoming the first player to test positive under Major League Baseball's new steroids policy.

The Devil Rays let him go in June, and he was claimed off waivers by the Giants. Sanchez batted .256 with three RBIs for San Francisco before he was hurt.
