Yes, what if you break your leg walking down the street? You can call someone.

I say your first birthday in Junior High is when you get your first cell phone.

why? I see no reason for an 11 year old to have a cell phone. anyone under 16 has no real business with one.

I think it's a great idea. Especially for 16-17 year olds who are just learning how to drive.

Well, in Junior High kids start to do after school activities and need to call their parents for rides and stuff. And in Jr. High the kids are usually 13 or 14, 7th and 8th grade.

I'm with you Royce...13-14 is a good age to have a cellphone, even if it is just a pre-paid plan. I don't understand the huge deal about this...why do you care if younger kids have cellphones? they're not harming anyone are they?

This is exactly why my brother decided that last Christmas was when his whole family would get cell phones, and a family plan. My one niece was 11 (she's 12 now), and the other one was 14 (she's 15 now.) They were both involved in alot of after school activities, and they needed to know where they were and when they needed to be picked up, and if any changes were made, etc. For too many months, my 88-year old mom was the only one running around trying to find them and get them and connect them to their activities. Things are much calmer now, and much more organized.

There were also rules set down, of course, so there is no abusing of the "cell-phone privileges".

You said that kids shouldn't have Cell Phones, the you do.

So do you think the should or shouldn't

Why are you making such a big deal about it?

Once kids start to get involved in extracurricular activities, cell phones come in handy. I got my cell phone when I entered high school, and it was a lifesaver for days when I had to stay late and was too young to drive. As long as thier parents trust them and are willing to pay for the plan, I don't see why kids shouldn't have phones. It's not like its dangerous.

It's not a good idea.

Kids should use cell phone after they graduate college and after they start acting responsible.

Whoa, after they graduate from college? At that age people are hardly "kids".
