My early season AL CY Young pick was Carlos Silva. I thought that pick was done when he tore the cartilage in his knee in April. But toughing it out he has been doing a great job this season. Now the question is can he win or even be in the running in the AL CY Young award?
Two things will hurt him. One playing in MN always hurts a player. Santana had a season that people just couldn’t ignore last year. Second is the Win-Loss. Even though he has been pitching great his offense has gave him nothing.
He is about doing what Santana did after the All-Star break last year but Santana had the wins to go with the great pitching. Silva is still winless since the All-Star break, but owns a 2.60 ERA in his last seven starts. 7-6 W-L Is going to just about kill all chances he has at winning the CY Young but that 3.33 ERA is right there with league leaders...
10th in AL in IP (159.2), 4th in AL in WHIP (1.16), 5th in AL in ERA (3.33) and league leaders.
Just from his season last year remembered me of Santana's the year before. Ok season but some bumps in the road and some real flashes of an outstanding pitcher. For that reason I thought that he would have a great season this year also. And if he would have got some runs he very well could be 6-1 down that stretch and that would give him a 14-7 record which like Santana last year people couldn’t ignore.
