Hey we are doing a College football top 10 for Addicts. Get in there and make your vote count.

But I am making an excel worksheet to keep track and such. I got most of it done but there is some sorting issues I am having problems with and if anyone is good at it and could give me a hand. PLEASE!!!!!!!

What do you need to do?

Well I am making a vote counter.

I have in column A the name of the college then after that I have one though 10 for the votes.

That then carries down to a block I have that counts the votes and adds them all up for the right amount for each vote. I then have it carry to a different block that has the college name in one cell next to it the number of points it got...

Now for the sorting. I want to sort the college name alphabetical in column A. But when I do that it messes up all the locations that I set up in the adding blocks. Well no big deal on that one I just have to add the right name in order when I get to that college. But the last block I want them to arrange with the number of points that it gets. When I sort them it keeps the formula I set up in the block and moves all the teams around but not the numbers I got added up.

Does any of this make sense to you all???? I could email what I got so far if someone would want to take a look at what I got and give a hand if I dont make sense.
:D

I'm not sure I do understand. It sounds like you used a formula to add something, therefore you can't sort it? Are your cells formatted to general? Did you paste special?

Ya I did use a formula to add up the number of votes.

And I dont know about the formatted general cells what ever they are when you first open excel.

But you cant lock a =b23 to a cell so no matter where you move that cell in sorting that it will stick with that?

If I'm understanding this correctly in my current state of exhaustion, you probably want to highlight each college without the subtotals and sort the selection. The formatting and subtotals should then remain the same.

I know the program. I use it for helping my step-dad with his shop work.

DD, if you want to move a column that has numbers that were made in a formula, you have to paste special. Go to Edit, then scroll down, and hit paste special.

Ya I did that PP and that is all ok.

Let me try this to explain what I want to do...

UNLV 10
Wyoming 25
BC 5
Texas 50

And the name is in one column and the number is a another one. I have the numbers coming up from some formula somewhere else. I am just doing a =a6 for the numbers and that number in a6 would come up for say BC and then =a7 for Wyoming and that comes up next to wyoming. I want to just click the sort button to order the teams from first to last by the numbers. But the problem I am running into is that the =a7 parts stay in the same location and mess up all the teams and numbers I have put in.

Does that make more sence??? :notme:

I could email you what I got if you want to take a look at it and might explain it better.

Try this. Before you sort the data, highlite the numbers, then right click, hit format cells, then use general. If that doesn't work, e-mail me the whole thing.
