# Several teams are intrigued by Twins right-hander Joe Mays, who will become a free agent this off-season after the club declines his $8.5 million option. Mays, 29, is 1-6 with a 7.48 ERA since the All-Star break, but he should be stronger next season. This was his first season back after he missed all of 2004 due to elbow-ligament transplant surgery. ...

Joe will make someone a good pitcher. He started off great and just hit the wall. As I have said and this short read says he should be stronger next year but it will save the Twins some money and open up a spot for some of there young guns.

I asked TC about this last week on AIM. TC thinks lot of teams would want Mays. I am not sure though. This guy may have the good stuff, but I just don't think he has the composure or the presence to be that good especially when things go tough for him.

Sure he does. He has been in the league long enough. There are so many ups and downs in the game. Baseball is a very humbling sport and he has felt the worst. A great start for him and we all saw that he was get tried as the season went on.

Mays knows the ups and downs and I can see him as a Red Sox next year.

Joe had one great year in 2001 and that's it. What other great years did he have? Sure he can throw strikes and he has a great sinker, but his makeup continues to be a hindrance. It's not very good. Tom Kelly constantly was harping about Joe's mental makeup.
