After a dramatic come-from-behind victory against the Phillies on Tuesday, the Mets play Philadelphia on Wednesday in the middle game of a three-game set crucial to the National League Wild Card race.
Pedro Martinez takes the mound for the Mets, looking to win his second straight start after going through a five-game winless stretch.
Martinez has produced three straight dominant outings and has pitched six shutout innings in each of his last two starts. He allowed only two hits during his most recent outing, a 3-1 victory against the Diamondbacks.
The Phillies will send Brett Myers to the hill. Myers has won six of his last eight games to push his record to 11-5.
He struggled during his last start, allowing four hits and three runs in four innings before being pulled. Myers didn't factor in the decision of an 11-3 victory against the Diamondbacks.
Pitching matchup
PHI: RHP Brett Myers
• 11-6, 3.55 ERA in 2005
• 1-1, 6.10 ERA vs. NYM in 2005
NYM: RHP Pedro Martinez
• 13-5, 2.77 ERA in 2005
• Has not faced PHI in 2005
Player to watch
Cliff Floyd is the only Met with more than 20 at-bats against Myers, and he has hit the Phillies pitcher well. Floyd has eight hits, including a double and three homers, to go with seven RBIs in 22 at-bats against Myers.
Quotable
"I'm not playing. I can't do a whole lot to help them, but to just spread my knowledge and how I interact with them can hopefully rub off on them in some form." -- Willie Randolph, on the limitations of managing down the stretch
