We had Newsday's Sports Business/Media Columnist Steve Zipay on last night to discuss whether there will be an OLN Blackout on Cablevision.

That naturally led to a discussion of the upcoming Mets Network. If you get a chance, please listen to it at http://hosted.filefront.com/patchyfogg

Some points discussed by Mr. Zipay:

--They've hired 3 executives (1 of whom is Curt Gowdy Jr.), but the bulk of the production staff will be freelancers.
--They've got Time Warner and Comcast on board, and are selling ads. But, 3 million Cablevision subscribers might not get it so the salesmen in a holding pattern.
--YES had a basketball team to use for leverage. As presently constituted, the Mets could only offer summer programming and would have to buy programming to fill it.
--Cablevision is spinning off its stock, and may not want to risk losing another 50,000 subscribers to satellite.
--Dave O'Brien and Keith Hernandez should be there.

Dave O'Brien? UGH! He is brutal to listen.

I personally think it's time to promote Gary Cohen to do the Mets PBP on the new Mets network. He has paid his dues as a radio announcer for years with the Mets and all. He is a logical fit.

Move Ted Robinson to the radio. I happen to like Ted. I have no idea why Mets fans hate Ted. So he is not a homer. Isn't that a great thing? Most NY sports announcers are way over the top with their homerism and that makes watching the games unwatchable. The only two announcers in NY sports that don't go way over the top are Ian Eagle and Mike Emrick (Devils PBP man on FSN NY). Those guys may sound boring, but they call a good game.

Ted Robinson grew up on Long Island as a diehard Mets fan. I too like him. I think I'd rather listen to Seaver do PBPs than O'Brien.

I'm a Cablevision subscriber. No choice where I am really. I will go absolutely bullistic if I can't watch my Metsies next year. :Pissed: Oh well, I guess I'll just be listening to Gary and Howie, which ain't such a bad thing. :)

One of my football games that I love playing (dreamcast lives on!) Ian is in it and the only way I can play after a while is on mute. Anyways I don't know the hatred for Teddey I love the guy along with Fran. But people don't like em...I have no idea why...I like Tommy too because of his stories about Koosey and the rest of em. Theres some unesscary hate put toward metty announcers.
