New York Mets Organization Report
SportsTicker
With the Norfolk Tides' season winding down and a berth in the International League playoffs a lock, the Mets' Class AAA farm team added some power. Andy Wilson has joined the club from Class A St. Lucie. He hit .289 with 28 home runs at the Florida State League level. Wilson could see a significant role with the Tides, including a possible slotting in the designated hitter spot in the first round of the playoffs next week against the Toledo Mud Hens. ... Steve Springer, who played six seasons for the Tides, was honored with membership into the Tidewater Baseball Shrine prior to Thursday's game. ... The Mets have eliminated the position of vice president of player development and scouting which Gary LaRocque had held since March 1, 2004. LaRocque, the organization's primary amateur scouting executive since the days following the 1997 season, probably will serve as a special assistant to Mets general manager Omar Minaya.
