He talked about how he may need surgery on his knee. At this point, I have to say go for it. I want him ready for next year. There is no point for him pitching in pain with this season already over.

There had to be something wrong yesterday when he just got drilled by the Indians. He is not this bad.

Plus this creates opening for Francisco Liriano to get three starts this year. You hate to wish an injury on someone (well it does not saddened me if Kyle Lohse got hurt) to get Liriano a start though.

I'm anxious to see this kid some more. I saw his debut against the Rangers and that left me wanting more. That mammoth shot by Mathews should have sent the message that big league hitters can hit that 98 mph fastball if they know it's coming and it's down the middle. After that they couldn't touch him

Francisco looked great overall after he gave up that mamoth HR, Toy Cannon. Here's a little irony for you. When Bert Blyleven made his debut in the majors, he gave up a HR in his first pitch. After that HR, he looked good and proceeded to have a great career.

He hasn't pitched much since so it will be great to see him. I haven't seen the Twins play for three weeks mainly because of apathy, but I will watch Francisco's debut as a a starter for sure.

Keep an eye on Scott Baker too. He is going to be special.

You have to love Minnesota's farm sustem and the young players they just keep producing.

Ya I agree with you Les that he should be shut down. Get that knee fixed and start the rehab ASAP and let the young guys get there shot to learn right now.

Silva my CY Young pick this year I think lived up to what I though he could do and I think he should only get better by next year.

And remember that he has been pitching on this knee from about the second month of the season.

Toy Cannon: Twins can produce good pitchers. Now it's time for this organization to start producing guys who can hit because this current group has been a total failure. Cuddyer and Lecroy are El Bustos. Jason Bartlett is keeping the seat warm for Trevor Plouffe, who was drafted last year. Who knows about Justin Morneau who is hitting more like Scott Sthoviak and Dave McCarthy. Terry Tifee should be looking for another line of work.

Shad: Carlos has had a great year. He exceeded my expectations. That was a great pick predicting that he will have a great year. He and Johan are now the 1-2 pitchers for theTwns.

It's a shame there isn't a legit bat sitting around down there.... Kubel is the only one with Major League potential right now... and he hasn't played since last season....

The Twins are gonna have to make some trades for offense if they wish to remain competitive...they have the pitching...but that can only carry them so far, as we have seen... Morneau needs to come back big next year, we need a 3rd baseman, a shortstop, and probably an outfielder if Jones is released..

Personally, I think the Twins should make a trade to bring a legit young bat to the Twins, if that means giving up Liriano or Baker, so be it... (i'd prefer to see Liriano traded)

I want to see Matt Moses, Trevor Plouffe, and Garrett Jones next year in the big club.

This team will likely be a bad team next year so let them work themselves way. I think they would be better off because there would be no pressure for them to do well. Let's get the kids at Rochester learn here.

The Twins rotation is flat out too good to tank the season before it starts. Get a couple legit bats in this offense..whether it be an improved MOrneau at a FA, or 2 FA's... or a Trade or 2... soemthing needs to be done... if i see Moses, Plouffe, or Jones... I will be disapointed in the Twins, and i will refuse to attend a game for a team that shows they have no intention of being competitive

That is right Curt and that is why the Twins aint going to ship the season in. It would sink the Twins team. The fans there will remember the seasons before. No reason to think that this team isnt going to be better.

Curt: Too bad our offense is horrible. I rather see the kids here. So what if they suck? So what? Indians and Braves got very young players and they seem to excel. Why can't the Twins do the same? Why the heck not? At least, they will be more exciting than this current garbage that we have saw all season. Spending on FAs? It ain't happening. Read Friday's edition of the Strib where Torii Hunter could likely be traded along with Shannon Stewart and maybe Brad Radke. Honestly, I am ready to start all over again with a 25 million payroll. This team will be fun to watch that way. I think we are going to have a fire sale. That's not a bad thing. Atlanta had a fire sale yet they are still going to the playoffs.

I am ready to trade the entire team to be honest with you. I am tired of everyone on this team.

Timber, get off the trading the entire Twins team away please. Its as logical as sending a man to the sun to check for suitable living conditions.

It appears Lohse has been turning it up a notch as of late. The way he has pitched all season it appeared like once everything clicked again he would be performing like his debut year and from what I read his slider was working great in his last game in which he won. I think the Twins hang on to Lohse since he, IMO, would serve as the same potential as any of the minor leaguers coming up. I think the roation could handle either Liriano or Baker but not both...as I feel having two new guys in the 4 and 5 spot would leave you open for disaster. Put Lohse in the 4 spot and Liriano/Baker in the 5th and if Lohse doesn't pan out then make a move. Is it wrong to be scared about having two new young guys in the starting rotation?

Seriously, you hate the yankees so bad yet you hold to the same philosophy. The Twins are a small market club which I doubt will change anytime soon. The Twins cannot afford to let what veteran experience they do have (which is still outstanding in the names you mentioned for possible trade) to bring in overpaid veterans that are on the downturn of their career. The vets the Twins have know the Twins system and what it has taken to make it successful. They are who the young guys in the Twins system look up to. Trade them all away and you lose the identity of the team and us as genuine Twins fans are left with a shell of a team that is filled everyother year with FA's that care nothing about the traditional Twins system.

Besides Timber, if you look at the Twins record over the years you find that they have about one shining moment a decade but as genuine Twins fans we look forward to that shining moment and it means a lot more to us then say the yankees that can always be in the hunt. If the shining moment for this decade was 3 consecutive division titles so be it; they earned it and as fans we enjoyed watching them achieve it and I think you would be hard pressed to find too many true fans anxious to trade all the same guys that achieved this feat away to bring in a couple of veterans looking for two last years of a decent paycheck which they may or may not fully earn.

Les

You are right on in your analysis. We've had some of the same discussions in the "Commentary" thread, here in the Twins Forum. You should read through it and add your input.

Thank goodness, cooler heads usually win out, and everyone in Twins management knows better than to have a knee-jerk reaction to this season.

Les: Well I am not exactly saying go buy the best players in baseball as Yankees and Red Sox do. What I am saying is get guys who know how to win. Guys who have been there and done that like a Scott Brosius back then. David Eckstein is a prime example. Don't you think David Eckstein would have been a difference maker this season? Eckstein could have won some games for us this year. I am thinking 40 games including today's game. Eckstein could have been a difference maker. I don't think he would have cost much either. Twins thought Jason Bartlett was supposed to be the guy. At the time, it wasn't a bad choice, but when you have a caliber like Eckstein who is in the wings, you do everything you can to get him.

As far as the vets go, I would love to see them here, but if they are not producing and they are not making a big difference in wins, it's best that they trade them for guys who can help us win long-term. Look at the Indians. They traded Bartolo Colon and now they got the best out of the trade as Lee is legit and Seizmore is an up-and-coming everyday player. Thing whole thing about young players looking up to the vets is fictional and nothing more.

I am not mocking the Twins for winning the division the last three years. They deserve it the last three years. They were fun to watch. This year comes nowhere close to last three years especially last year. I don't see the Twins play with fire, spunk, and determination this season and it showed. What I want is guys that will do everything that they can to win and I feel the kids can do that even if they struggle the next two years.

No, it is not wrong to have two new guys in the starting rotation. In fact, it's great. Liriano and Baker are legits especially Baker. It's also not wrong to promote Jones, Moses, Span, and Plouffe to the majors even if they are not ready.

Mark: I am telling you Carl Pohlad may have that idea that his team could stink at a 20 million payroll than a 50 million payroll. Don't think he does not have that thoughts. Why would he want to pay these guys to stink this bad at 50 million? 50 million does not grow on trees let alone 1 million or 25 cents.
