I got the top waiver request in my league and someone just dropped Cedrick Benson. Is he worth losing my #1 spot over or should I hold onto it for a later drop? My RBs are Tiki Barber and Brian Westbrook with Ricky Williams and a soon to be dropped Thomas Jones.
I guess it depends on who else is out there. Do you see a better player being available down the line? If not, you grab him and see how things go in Chicago.

Benson is a rookie. So right there he has a red flag. Very few rookies make a big enough splash in the NFL to warrant a good spot in fantasy football. Cadillac Williams being a possible exception this year. Plus he held out all of training camp. Two red flags.
You already have one of Chicago's RB's (Thomas Jones) and the Bears aren't committing as to how much playing time Benson will get in the near future. Jones may actually be the guy you would want right now. I would think that the Bears won't give Benson much playing time until they feel he knows the offense well enough. Heck, they already have one shaky rookie (Kyle Orton) at QB. And their offense, as a whole, is shaky. If you can find a better option then pass on Benson for now. But keep an eye on him because the Bears need a big play RB and if he can make a few big plays, he'll get more playing time.
From Pro Football Weekly
Head coach Lovie Smith can draw from his experience with the 1999 Buccaneers as a model for this Bears team to copy. That Tampa Bay team won 11 regular-season games and finished as the NFC runner-up on the strength of its defense. Another similarity? The starting quarterback, for part of the season, was a rookie, second-round pick Shaun King. Smith is leaning on rookie fourth-round pick Kyle Orton as his starter in Chicago and expects first-round pick Cedric Benson to soon become a key cog for a run-first offense.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll wait until Benson gets more than 3 carries and see how he does.
