DETROIT -- Mike Redmond limped gingerly through the clubhouse, one day after writhing on the grass at Comerica Park.
"This is probably the most painful thing I've been through," Redmond said.
Redmond fell to the ground during Tuesday night's game after running out a single in the third. Redmond raced to score a run the previous inning and aggravated a bone spur on the bottom of his right heel, a condition that developed about four months ago.
"I've just been playing through it," Redmond said.
So while Joe Mauer returned to his duties behind the plate on Wednesday afternoon, Minnesota's catching situation remains fluid. Remond is listed as day-to-day, which may prompt manager Ron Gardenhire to give Chris Heintz a longer look.
Redmond is scheduled to meet with team doctors when the club returns to Minnesota. Redmond said he's been told surgery won't necessarily fix the problem and could complicate the condition, making rest the primary option.
Gardenhire's reaction to Redmond's difficulties running the bases: "We just thought he was slow."
even in light of the injury Gardy can drop some humor :D
