C-1B Mike Jacobs was named the Mets' organizational player of the year for the second time in three seasons. Before getting promoted to New York on August 17, Jacobs hit in 22 straight games for Class AA Binghamton, three shy of New York's minor league record set by Jay Payton in 1995. Jacobs also was named the Eastern League's MVP, batting .321 with 25 homers, 93 RBI to go with a .589 slugging percentage. ... New York's pitcher of the year was RHP Brian Bannister, who enjoyed a breakout season with Binghamton and Class AAA Norfolk. In 18 games with Binghamton, Bannister went 9-4 with a 2.56 ERA before foing 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA with the Tides. He currently is pitching for the United States National team at the World Cup in the Netherlands. ... 2B Anderson Hernandez made his major league debut Sunday and was 0-for-4.
