What is ridiculous to me is that they put the Mariners behind Oakland. The M's only got better with the additions of Cirillo, and the addition of a better hitting left fielder, Ruben Sierra. While Oakland lost one of the most powerful and best hitters in baseball, Jason Giambi. THEN, the Mariners won 116 games last year, and IMPROVED their infield and outfield. They may have lost something with the pitching, but Piniero and Meche will compensate. HOW can Oakland be ranked higher?

And also, look at the position of the mets, who added the bats of Roberto Alomar, and Mo Vaughn to their lineup. They wernt half bad the second half last year. They are at least better than Philly.

Whoaaaaa, these rankings do suprise me:uhoh:

I agree that the M's should still win the AL West although it will be a lot closer this year...

I am shocked that they are predicting a 4th place finish for the Mets....Hell, last year with no hitting they finished with a better record than they are predicting here......Not quite sure why.....They upgraded their hiting tremendously and really only lost 1 key starter in Appier......Keys will be health but one cant predict that...If healthy the Mets will conted for the East, if not, they may be accurate...

I also see the NL West as being San Fran and Zona...Throw COlorado out of that mix...I think Zona will win it....

I don't see anything wrong with these predictions.

Wow, those predictions are blatantly flawed. The M's WILL repeat as West champs, and the Phillies should struggle for 3rd place, which I don't think they can acheive, what with the Marlins' amazing young pitching staff.

645, this was a simulation done by Diamond something or other. It wasn't a straight forward prediction.

And with the imergence of James Baldwin after a great first start, as well as the hitting skills of Ben Davis to compliment Dan Wilson, the Mariners are better than anticipated even a day ago. And the A's.....well, they still have Hudson, Zito, Mulder and Chavez, so they won't be BAD, but who knows, the rest of the field is full of question marks.

That's even worse relaying on a computer to make up some numbers on what would happen in a perfect season where no one got hart or things like that.

Well it was a pretty advanced simulation. 50 seasons were simulated with formulas for how often a player is injured, where he's at in his career, etc. It's not like this is being done on a PlayStation2 or anything like that.

I'll give you that but it don't matter how advanced it is for you never know what could happen.

I belive Baseball is a game of streaks,Hot streaks,Cold streaks. And one thing can deside the whole season for a team.

this was not done by ESPN. It was done by Diamond Minds. They have been doing this stuff for years, and last season, their simulations actually proved to be VERY close. It is done to show what COULD happen if everything aligned perfectly. Of course, we know that won't happen. But that is not what it's all about.

I bet the ol' Diamond Mind was about 20 games off of the Mariners record, huh? Well, nobody predicted that
